VS 2008/List Only Returns Last Record?

Feb 3, 2011

I am using Visual Basic 2008 and SQLServer 2005 on a Windows 7 64-bit PC. Within a class accessing a specific SQL table, I have a "Try Loop" where I add the results of a search (results returns 42 records) to a list. While within the Try Loop, I can access any instance of the SQL results with simple indexing. When I access the List after completing the Try Loop, I can see the proper count of occurrences, but when I view any occurrence of the list to my working dataspace, I only get the last occurrence, over and over again.

Delete A Record From A Dat File By Selecting The Record From A List Box?

Feb 9, 2011

Basically, I am making a booking system. On one of the forms, you can: Add, Edit and Delete a record by using the selected index. I can do the Add and Edit part fine but some problems are occuring when I try to delete it. What I'm trying to do when deleting is, copy all the records except the selected one and then copy it back into the original file again.

.net - LINQ Query Returns List Of Empty Objects?

May 3, 2012

I have a query that 'selects' object of a type:

Dim l as IList(Of Foo) = (From dataRow As DataRow In table.Select()
Where CStr(dataRow("Column1")) = "A"
Select New Foo(CStr(dataRow("Column1")), _
CStr(dataRow("Column2")))).ToList()

What's happening is that if i set a break-point to the constructor of Foo and step, the constructor is hit and the parameters are loaded with the arguments. However, l has empty Foo objects (the members in every object are Nothing). What could be happening here?

Forms :: Create A List Of Records Then To View That Record

Feb 26, 2010

I have been playing with VB6 for quite a few years now and I can normally get by ok on my own.I finally made the move to VB.net, but I am totally lost.I have started writing a program that is basically a planner. It helps the user organize and plan activities with a client.I have created the ui and have added a BindingNavigator and it happily pulls in the records from my Access database which I can cycle through. What I would like it to be able to do is, allow the user to see all the current records (maybe in a flexgrid), select which record he/she would like to view, then the entire record is populated into the ui.I would have no problem in vb6 of course...but I could do with a little help in vb.net (2008).My main problem is I think is, once the flexgrid is populated, how to create the event that allows the user to view and update that record once in the ui.

VS 2008 ExecuteNonQuery Returns -1

When I run my code it successfully inserts a new record but it returns -1. The SP itself is coded to return (0) if successful else return (-99). It is these values that I want to test after execution. I have tried to add a return value parameter to the DBCommand but this causes an error on that parameter: Quote:

VS 2008 Generics - Function Returns Generic Type?

Jun 23, 2009

The idea is to expand on the existing, old, and lacking Inputbox, to allow for:1. A greater variety of types (Integers, doubles, List(Of String), etc.2. Data validation. For example, if the user wants the user to quickly enter an Integer, I want a custom Inputbox form to show up with a TextBox, which only allows Integer input. If he wants the user to choose from a List(Of String), I show a form with a Combobox instead, from which the user can then choose.

Null Check Always Returns Null, If Removed Returns Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object

Jun 24, 2010

I have some code which gets child items for a menu via the GetChildren function which takes a list of menuData: Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))

For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu
If menuData.Children IsNot Nothing Then
menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))
End If
Next

If I check if menudata.children isnot nothing, it always is nothing because the GetChildren function is yet to run (providing the child items, which do exist). If I remove this check and just have this code:

Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))

For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu
menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))
Next

Then I am presented with a Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))

VS 2008 Will Not Need To Update Each Component Variable Of Products List When Components List Changes

Sep 21, 2010

I think (?) this is about object design, and perhaps about structural and/or creational patterns. But a bit hard to say when I only know a couple of patterns yet.[code]But... what if we INSTEAD want each Product instance only to (in some way) refer to one instance of a specific list of Components. So we wan't to save the products list to one file, and the components list to another file. Then would I build the objects the same way, or different? So let's then say we have now Class B as below. [code]

1. Will not need to update each component variable of the products list when the components list changes.

2. If the Product object shall be shown in a DataGridView, for editing properties, it seems easier to implement the selection of the component property.

Is this wrong approach? Is it suitable in some cases, and if so, when? Are there other solutions I perhaps am not aware of that would be appropriate? Is this about structural design patterns? and if so, can the alternatives above be catagorized to some pattern type? I don't really know exactly what I'm looking for.. But I think probably I'm looking to understand whether the object design will be determined by the way the objects are saved.. And if i shall save the objects by serializing to file, vs saving to a database, would I create the business objects differently?
