This is all fine but as you can see x just gets overwritten with every iteration. What I need is create an xDocument and add each feed from my loop but I am unsure how to proceed.

I have been creating some asp.net sites that connect to an AS400 for data and I use a SQLDataSource for this with the following connection string (changed for security reasons). Now I need to create a winform application in VB.NET and am wondering how I would do this? I have only used MSSQL in winforms and use the sqldatareader for Select statements and execute non-query for others. I need to call some stored procedures on the AS400 passing parameters. I was hoping to do this by code like I do with MSSQL rather than drop in controls to bind to.

just found out that replace(string does not do the same as string.replace when my string variable was an empty str the first one returns "nothing" and the second returns an empty string (as expected).just sloppy coding anyhow, it was a function that was converted from classic asp and never rewritten properly. View 1 RepliesHere's the catch - for the program I'm making I would like to avoid creating a copy of the file in its totally unencrypted state (I'm using a modified, quick-and-dirty XOR cipher for that. It's secure enough for my purposes and faster than the stronger encryption). Anyhow, what I would like to do is read a block of data, de/encrypt it (in memory) and then write the changed bytes to the same location they previously would have been within the file.

I was wondering if it someone could help me solve this problem. I have a full screen application with a panel in the center which is used to display different user controls and screens when the user uses the app.However, I have a rather large gradient image set as my form's background and it causes the panel to flicker every time controls are added. I find that when the background image is removed the flicker goes away. How can I keep the background image but eliminate the flicker? My form is already double buffered.

I am chasing a strange error at a customer site and was wondering if it is possible that Environment.MachineName could return a zero length string. The docs say this is read from the registry but doesn't specify where. I can't imagine that a machine cannot have a netbios name but just wanted to ask.

After some investigation, it appears that this was not returning a zero length string, but I was just interested if it is feasible.

but value contains an empty string I confes to being a VB n00b, less than a week, in fact, but I can't see what's wrong there. The file exists, it contains a section called "Config" which has an entry called "UserName" with a value - but even if not, wouldn't value take the default?
Edit: It's not returning an empty string - it's returning whatever I initialize value to before calling GetPrivateProfileString().
Which is to say that if I Dim value As String = "xxx" then it stil contains "xxx" after the call and not the default value.

By my logic, this should only assign .length to index IF the length of strItem is longer than 0. This check is there in case the listbox is empty, or the user has not selected an item. However, everytime I go through this code without an item selected I get:

View 7 RepliesI have a htpc project that I am working on. The main program loads dll plugins which are basically other win forms. On each of these forms, including the main program, I use a picturebox (a double buffered picturebox) for the background image and then draw everything on it by hand. Whenever I load the form from the dll and show it, I get a weird flicker. It looks like it is the previously used double buffer. Is there any way to clear the background double buffer before the flicker? Or am I going in the wrong direction?

All I want to do is grab the IP details of the local machine in VB 2008 (or previous versions) using actual coding and not relying on output from ipconfig/all. I specifically need the subnet mask and gateway of the local machine.
I have found documents on how to do this in C++ using the networkadapter functions which is of no use to me because im using VB. Ive managed to find how to get the local ip address (using winsock or third party control) but nothing more and a few pages on using WMI but all examples are using vbscript rather than the full blown visual basic.
