i want basically; words that get put in a listbox from a series of checkboxes i want to appear in a string of text in an rtb called strsqlselect. To form a line of sql code i.e the checkboxes select the fields etc and then are inputted into the string of text.

Having an issue switching a listview from Tile to Details View with groups. When the list view has groups and the Default View is Tile, when changing the view to Details the first Group is not shown. Its under the column header. I jerry rigged it with creating a global variable to store the tile size and when switching to details view setting the tile size to a new size of 1,1. When switching back to Tile View setting the Tile Size to the Global Tile Size Stored.

All I want to do is grab the IP details of the local machine in VB 2008 (or previous versions) using actual coding and not relying on output from ipconfig/all. I specifically need the subnet mask and gateway of the local machine.
I have found documents on how to do this in C++ using the networkadapter functions which is of no use to me because im using VB. Ive managed to find how to get the local ip address (using winsock or third party control) but nothing more and a few pages on using WMI but all examples are using vbscript rather than the full blown visual basic.
how to do this in vb and have any sample code?
As a network server administrator im confused on why this is so difficult, even in VB.
i have invoice form separated into 2 parts the upper part is master (header) and detail (body) in invoices where header contains date,name,invoice number,etc ..and the lower part is the body contains the datagridview with its details like the item name or code,qty,price,discount,etc the problem is i want to save the invoice headers in a table and the body in another different table but with a realtion between the 2 of them by the invoice id i think i put it in the invoices' form load. but i cant get it right so if any one have an example by code 2 solve this prob ,

Ive been trying to figure out what report I should use as it appears I have crystal reports built in and also have Microsoft Report Viewer in this VB 2008.What I need to do is give the user a list of names and when a ame gets clicked it will show all the details in a report.I have loaded a ListView Control with the names from my database and this is letting the user pick a report so I can get the name and ID number of the record to show this way and just need to figure out how to get that record onto a report and what report to use?Ive done similar in VB6 but have never looked at .Net. I'm trying to solve a problem regarding types of list. First of all I have a stored procedure in my DB which does a select of a single column and I try to proceed it in my app in VB. By making a method function I declared a DataTable that loads through the SqlCommand(with the CloseConnection behavior). After that I publicly declared a List(Of String) which needs to be populated with the rows/items from the stored procedure that is on the way. Below is my snippet of the code:

It's LPrefix = collection.Cast(Of String)() where I get an exception error telling me that I can't really convert it. The old fashion way is to iterate with for/for each loop but that's not what I want for best use of performance especially if the list will have thousands of rows from a single column. So basically, I want to insert those items from that DataTable to the List(Of String) without For/For Each loop.

The intention is to convert an IList of custom objects to a string equivalent comprising each element in the Ilist. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a way to get the underlying data of the custom object, and of course as in the above example, using object simply gives me a string of types definitions, rather than access to the underlying data.

However the time it takes to do this comparison can be very long indeed - is there a better way of doing this type of comparison... All I am trying to do is add values from List2 in to List1 which are not already present in List1 - So in effect adding new Unique values found in List 2 in to List 1. I am only looking for performance improvements - nothing else.

I have written a custom comparer (implements IComparer(of string)) to do an alphanumeric sort.Is there a way to sort the List using a given index to determine which position in the String() to sort by? In other words one time I might sort by Index = 0 and another time by Index = 3. The length of all String() in the list is the same.For reference this question is similar to Sort List<String[]> except I am using VB.net and that question is hardwired to Index=0.
EDIT from OP's comments:I started simple with the non custom comparer but I am getting an error: expression does not produce a value. Not sure what I am doing wrong.Here is the code:

There are going to be quite a lot of these loops to do what I want can anyone offer any help or a better way to go about doing this? Note that I want the values list to return 10,10,10,20,20,20 so that lines that have 10 should be added first and lines with 20 then afterwards.
