I using vs2008/vb. I want to provide my users with the ability view files in a specified directory and allow them to drag-drop to e-mail. I don't want to allow them to delete files in the directory or to even change directories. Is there a way to restrict the filedialog boxes to not allow deletes and directory changes?

I'm trying to use Linq to loop through all fonts in the %windir%Fonts folder and find the one that has a property title of "Arial" (or any Font Family name supplied), but I can't seem to access the font properties (things like "Title", "Font style", "Designed for", etc.).
The following is only giving me the basic file info:
Dim fontDir = Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("windir") & "Fonts"
Dim fontFiles = From file In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(fontDir)
[code].....

I am upgrading from Visual Studio 2003 to Visual Studio 2008. ow I should upgrade my project. My project is in Visual Basic.Net, and using an Access 2003 Database. I have four datasets, MainDataSet (for the main data tables) LookupDataSet (for lookup tables States, Countries, Colors, etc) OneFormDataSet (data used on only one form) and ReportsDataSet (data used for reports).I have one form "OleDbAdpatForm.vb", that has all the OleDbDataAdpaters for my project. It also has the DataSets and the OleDbConnection.I have public functions that enable me to load the data tables.
I have a LoadTable function when I can pass a column and a value, and the SQL select command is updated with a WHERE or HAVING, so only the requested data is selected. I also can pass the whole "WHERE ..." part of the SQL select command, so I can have multiple parameters in the SELECT command. On my other forms, I have copies of the DataSets, so I can design grids/controls. In the form_Load events, I manually bind the controls to DataSets and tables in located "OleDbAdpatForm.vb", so all forms are using the same data tables, and changes made to data in one form are reflected in data in other forms. The VS 2008's DataSources, BindingSources and TableAdapters seem much easier to use. how I should implement the new data features in my application?

everything tests well but when I evoke the function the dialog values default to selections other than what the text was originally/last set to (e.g., color, font, size, etc. in the dialog/menu is not what is shown in my rich text box).how I can set the above values per the text being recalled in the RTB? That is, in the above scenario if I hit the cancel button I lose the original text formatting.

FNTs are not windows font file.
If such fonts are available, how to load it and change windows form font to FNT?
I use .Net GDI+ technology, but let me know if WPF is better for this.

In my program, I need to be able to access font file information like what the font's title is called, the styles it contains, etc. I am already able to access the font's file name and path and use that, but I need the other information too.
I've used a recursive file search of the fonts folder (which is how i got the paths and filenames), as well as using Dim oneFontFamily As FontFamily, neither of which seem to have what I need.

I've wrote a program awhile ago that prints barcode labels. The old version needed the font to be installed in the fonts folder, but that made it a pain for people using the program for the first time, as the program would print the barcode label with a default font. If I load the font file directly and try and print, it just shows up with the default font, obviously not a barcode. The following doesn't seem to work:

I use the font dialog to ask the user to select a font.
I need to save the font to a text file, so I don't need to ask the font each time the program runs.
The problem is that I see more font styles available than the font styles I get (they are limited to the fontStyle enum, which contains just 4 styles).
for example, this fontdialog shows 8 font styles (including semicomprimida):

But the .Font.Style property of the fontDialog instance only returns values in the System.Drawing.FontStyle enum, and I cannot save the user selected font style, nor instanciating a new Font, with that style.

I am thinking of giving mono develop a try. I have some questions. Visual Studio 2008 Professional has options for creating controls and services. This is not available in Visual Basic 2008 Express. This relationship between the different editions, is there something limiting like this with mono develop? I figure since it's open source, everything is implemented like Visual Studio 2008 Pro.
Another question. Does anyone have experience with mono. Is it a production level serious environment for commercial work? Is there something I should know about it?
Any mono developer that has anything good or bad to say, please drop a post in here. I would like to get as much info as possible from vbforums. This has always been the best help site for me using Visual Basic Express.
The most important thing, to reiterate is if I can make Windows Services with Mono Develop and if it supports full threading features that are limited or not available in express.
As a last question, what is the story on managed directx for mono. On Linux, there is no such thing, so would you plan an opengl library to start with? or does that work out in a different way?

Now user can type in any text and change the font size and color. It looks very nice customized on the screen. I saved it as and txt file.
I open the file to read. It is no more as colorful as when I type in. I 'd like to save the file with those customizetion so when the read on the other end will able to see what is important in the message.

I have a large .NET source tree (185 C# and VB projects, of which 60 are apps or websites) that i want to create a wix setup for. The general idea is to have 1 setup msi and to make each executable a feature, and to have each app be installed in a separate directory. like
%progfiles%/company/app1
/app2
/app3
[code].....
Some libraries are used by multiple apps, so the DirectoryRef would have to be pointing to multiple directories, and multiple DirectoryRefs (with different ids) would have to be pointing to the same directory (found directory alias trick), both of which seem impossible.I get the distinct impression I'm going about it the wrong way, or that I'm missing some deeper insight. (No suprise as my wix-fu is a full 3 days old)
