I have one large XML file from one of our vendor and I am trying to pars it using Linq but it looks some wrong logic I am using.
This is xml file:
HTML
<Psw xmlns="http://localhost">
<exid>20</exid>
<Mes><Me>
<doc><ps>
<ghder> .....
The code I am trying:
Dim doc As XDocument
doc = XDocument.Load(TextBox1.Text)
Dim qList = (From xe In doc.Descendants.Elements("ghder") _
Select New With { _
.mid = xe.Element("MId").Value, _
.cdate = xe.Element("cD").Value _
' As well I need to get the value for pn child attribute }).FirstOrDefault
MsgBox(qList.mid)
Error for DBNull ' Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
I am attempting to make an application that can load in a large file that has some unique characters in it. A majority of the file is plain text, and ultimately I need to replace specified values with other values.The file is an InstallShield .ILG file - I am trying to have a small executable modify the "Feature" GUID entered in the file so that future installations/upgrades identify the new type of features it has. It's a fix for some software issues that would really expedite the solve without having someone un-install and re-install the package each time.
The problem is regardless of the methods I've tried to load the file, it doesn't bring over the data. It's a unique file that I do not want to modify/parse any data in other then those specific fields. Anytime I attempt to convert it to string I just get a few characters that are blocks. I've attempted all types of loading methods within VB but it continues to fail.
I've gotten this utility to modify everything from the config files to the proper DLLs it needs to load and the registry it needs to change. But it's this one piece that regardless of my attempts I can't find a way to load and modify the ILG file.
My issue is i have some non standard XML and i need to tidy it before it can be parsed with an XElement.Parse(text) function the problem is that the source is as follows (just a sample, the entire file contains many items)
I'm busy with an applicaton which reads space delimited log files ranging from 5mb to 1gb+ in size, then stores this information to a MySQL database for later use when printing reports based upon the information contained in the files. The methods I've tried / found work but are very slow.
or is there a better way to handle very large text files?
I've tried using textfieldparser as follows:
Using parser As New TextFieldParser("C:logfiles estfile.txt") parser.TextFieldType = FieldType.Delimited parser.CommentTokens = New String() {"#"}
I would like to parse through and display and picture and description for each 'item' in an XML file. I can't figure out the image part, and I've only been able to concatenate the 'description' to display it:
[Code]...
I'm at the right elements in the tree; I can display the first picture, and I've been able to access all of the 'description' elements. But I need to have each 'item' element display together.
I need to get a list of the item id attribute in a soap packaged XML file, in the example below ref-2 ref-3, but I'm having a problem finding examples that work and not even sure where my attempt at a linq to xml statement is failing. Are there any good examples of parsing a XMLDocument in a SOAP envelope or am I just making this way harder than it needs to be.
I want to extract large amounts of data from Excel, manipulate it and put it back. I have found the best way to do this is to extract the data from an Excel Range in to a large array, change the contents on the array and write it back to the Excel Range.I am now rewriting the application using VB.NET 2008/2010 and wish to take advantage of any new features.
Currently I have to loop through the contents of the array to find elements with certain values; also sorting large arrays is cumbersome. I am looking to use the new features, including LINQ to manipulate the data in my array.Does anybody have any advice on the easiest ways to filter / query, sort etc. data in a large array. Also what are the reasonable limits to the size of the array?
Im trying to parse a log file and display the data in a textbox.The log is forever changing so it will have to be some kind of a loop.I only want the new data to be added to the textbox after the application is running, not the contents already in the log file.

1. Read line-by-line a txt file with more than 500,000 lines, (each line 521 characters long)
2. extract an ID No from the line
3. query from a database for LCCIStatus
4. concatenate the value of LCCIStatus to the line
5. write the line to sample.txt
My problem is, this code works perfectly with the test file of 8000 lines but fail with the actual files which have over 500,000 lines. FYI, the test file contains data which I cut and paste from the actual file.
I am trying to parse a very large text file for certain strings. The text file is part of a level-making software for an old game I play. The text file basically contains all the information the level designer software needs, but the only important bit is the 'texture information'. Basically what I'm trying to create is a little program that parses the text files and shows the user a list of every texture in that text file. The problem is, the strings denoting textures are not really easy to find, and I can't think of any sensible and fast way to get them...
I've build a large program with many references. F.e.:
System.Data.DataSetExtensions System.Linq.Dynamic
I've to write a Dynamic Linq Expression: [URL]
In my case: Dim query As IEnumerable = ds.Sales.Where(strWhere)
But with System.Data.DataSetExtensions Where is misinterpreted. The compiler expects (Datarow, Integer, Boolean). If I delete System.Data.DataSetExtensions everything is ok with this expression, but I get many other errors, so I need this reference. What can I do that the Where is interpreted correctly?
I need to load a large txt file that is in a fixed width format. There are over 45K lines, so speed is important.I need to load one of the fields into a dropdown box and have another field (label) display the text of another field in the related line.I could import the file to an access db if needed, but would rather not as i also want the txt file to update from a link on a regular bases. So having it in a DB would be more work to process that part.[code]
I would like to be able to parse vb.net code files, so I can examine the collection of Subs, Functions (and their contents, including comments), private variables, etc. I can be open the actual source code files. So for example, if I have:
I release an application and one of the end-users is telling me that they get this message:
See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
************** Exception Text ************** System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Xml.Linq, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden.
[Code]....
The way that reads to me, there is a problem with their .net framework? Am I correct, or is there a problem with my code? I can't reproduce the problem, and many other people use the application with no problems.
I'm creating a vb.net winforms application that will take in user given strings, parse them, and print out labels with variable information. The given string will be used in all the labels, but the variable part of the string will change with each label.
My question is: is it better to parse the strings one time, then store those values in arrays, or to parse the string each time a label is printed? Which will perform better? Which is better practice? What is the proper way to test something like this?
I want to write a program to do Markov chain, but my states are quite large. First of all I calculate all the transition probabilities and revenues for all states(1381860 total states), and store in a multidimensional array. Public RevArr(0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As Long
After that the iteration of markov chain should use these as inputs to calculate the steady-state probabilities. But when I try to run the main code I got this error.Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
The following is the declaration of second array I add just another dimension for storing all the iterations, but I get this error. Dim stateprob(IT + 1, 0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As single
we are trying to use google to get exchange rate prices. they use a csv file which we get the code to go out and get.what im trying to do is pick the first line of the file and just use that. i have the following code but its not just picking the one line.
I am trying to create a program in VB.net to help me fix broken computer systems by parsing log files. I have some ideas but I have only built simple programs previously. I have ideas how to do this but so far my attempts haven't gone so well.Specifically I can either import a txt type file or copy and paste the contents of a txt file into the program and then have it compare what has been posted to a good/bad list then it reprints out what is bad in color coding. Also if their is a way to update the file it uses for comparison by entering in a txt file that would be stellar.
I have a complicated text file that has 10000 lines of text which is of the format
$$ ************************************ $$ Put FIXTURE alignment code below $$ you are in Manual mode at this point $$ ************************************
I'm toying with an idea that would require me to parse a text file that contains a SQL statement. (i.e. Select * From Customers) I would like to be able to programmatically via Visual Basic identify key words, table names, comment lines, etc.So, how do compilers handle such a task? How does a SQL database handle such a task? All of the parsing tools are for CSV files with some sort of consistent delimiter. I'm wondering if I need to read the file one character at a time and then do some sort of comparison.
I need to code a hitcounter button that looks at a textfile,counts how many times a site has been visited and then shows a message box with the results
I have a scenario where i have to Parse a UTF-16 Encoded CSV file and populate a treeview using VB.Net. I need to parse the CSV files which may also support other languages. how to proceed on this and what classes of .net I can use to solve this issue.
In VB.Net we do not have a provision to parse a UTF-16 file But There is a provision for reading UTF-8 encoded file.The method is OpenText(). I want a similar method but it should parse or read a UTF-16 encoded file.
p.s. If i am not able to make my self clear here then do ask me for my code , It works perfectly but causes the application hang and is pretty slow ( Using the StreamReader )
