View 2 RepliesWhat I am trying to do is have a class where the functions of the same name are both instance functions and shared functions.
Public Shared Function Get...(byval xx as xx)
and
Public Function Get...
The Public Function uses a Property xx created in the constructor, whereas the Shared Function has the parameters (byval xx as xx).
I'm trying to modify a dataset with designer and when using the query builder to get the month or year of a date field query builder transforns month(date)into [month](date)
Where do I get all the functions that can be used in Query Builder?
I am trying to use LINQTOSQL and I am new using it so could you please let me know how to take data once you write a query into an object.I got my query here which runs with no error and the count shows correctly being one when I login
Dim Data As New Data
Dim DIMLOGIN = From a In Data.Members Where a.EMAIL = LOGINEMAIL.Text AndAlso a.PASSWORD = LOGINPASSWORD.Password Select a.ID
how to access the 'ID' selected by this query?

View 2 Repliesi have to update the values in my database some of them are integer, some string and some date (as you can infer from the formatting)
i am using the following query:
UPDATE PatientProfile SET HospitalRegNo=" + hregno + ", PatientName='" + pname + "', PatientAge=" + page + ", PatientSex='" + psex + "', Address='" + add + "', ContactNo='" + cno + "', AdmitDate=#" + adat + "#, OperDate=#" + odat + "#, DischargeDate=#" + ddat + "# WHERE PatientNo=" + pno + ""
but its not working... i think there's a problem in formatting the date type variables
I am trying to call a SELECT query (with parameters) in Access from VB.Net 2008. I am able to call queries without parameters using the code below. The problems are (1) how to apply the parameters to procName and (2) how to get a dataset returned. I have looked around the net for hours and have found some examples. However, they are all for ms access action (update, delete, etc) queries using ExecuteNonQuery which does not return a dataset.

i am relatively new to VB and i am working on a Visual Basic Program to build a Student Record Book where all the information is stored to an Access 2007 database. If the user is an administrator they will be able to add a new student, update delete etc. I managed to implement INSERT/DELETE/UPDATE functions and also a search button and they all appear to be working fine.
View 4 RepliesIn Access, when you build a new query, you can add tables to the view, which is then represented by individual windows that are somehow embedded/constrained to the upper portion of the query designer. I know then typically, windows are free floating anywhere on the screen, but somehow they manage to keep it confined to a certain container area. It also appears that the windows never get a real "focus" as the title bar is always a faded shade of blue, yet, you can still click on them and move them around.
View 3 RepliesI am connecting to an Access database and using a parameter query with the LIKE operator to return all rows that match query. The string to search for is taken from a Textbox
sql =
"Select * FROM Allview WHERE Info Like" &
"*" &
CStr(TextBox1.Text) &
"*"
The query does not return any data in vb, but when run from access with same string, there is data returned. The connection to the database is done correctly, as I am able to return data with various other queries.

I am trying to run a query an Access db from VB. The general query which I want to run is
SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientID = ?
or SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientLname = ?
I tried using an input box which captured the user input and pass that variable to the query, but that failed. Then I read about writing a function and using that, however, I keep getting an error which says Function not defined, but when stepping through the code, it seems to work. Here is my function: [Code]
I want to retrieve query from MS.Access database criteria is between some date range, but I get the following error when execute my reader:Syntax error in date in query expression 'D_ate BETWEEN # @DateFrom # AND # @DateTo #'.

I am new to .NET 4 and VS 2010. I am using VB 2010 and have made a class and need to know how i can access those functions in the class within another form. So there is a function say of XYZ in the class named classes.vb and need to get to it from form1.vb
View 9 RepliesI have recently started learning VB.NET. I created a simple 3 tier windows application. The DAL project contains a class with a number of functions. In the BLL project, I've added a reference to the DAL project, but I still can't access the functions in the DAL class from the BLL. However, if I change the DAL class to a module, I can access them then. Both the DAL class and its functions are public.

I know I can access the local Eventlog using build in functions. However, I need to be able to open and read evt and evtx files save on a remote computer for further analysing.
View 6 RepliesI've been researching for days and I've gotten to the point where my WCF service creates an Access object via com/interop.I've ran the Open Current Database call for the Access object without an error but Application.CurrentDB is still nothing/null. If the CurrentDB is nothing then I surely can't call Application.Run "myFunction" I realize WCF services aren't meant to be user interactive, but it's a long story why I'm trying to go this route. Basically I need to have a proof of concept ready sooner rather than later and the alternative (correct) route involves the complete re-writing of a large complex access VBA application. It's not a permissions issue, I have the IIS user names added to the security tab. What I really need is a way to set Environment.UserInteractive to true so my WCF service can create an instance of Access on my server machine, run the VBA functions, close out, return true.I'm using VS 2010 for the WCF, IIS 7 for my server, Access 2010 for the VBA application.

I was thinking of through a DLL WinAPI call or maybe a delegate function or smaller program?
2) Does anyone know of a MS link or area that gives instruction on "how to" use every function of every Windows DLL at all?
Or for all those that Microsoft have chosen to document online at least.
I have a range of serial numbers in groups like below
ID NAME START Range ENDRange
1 eric 12340 12349
2 carl 56780 56788
Can I get VB 2010 sql query for access database that when I enter say 12342 in the textbox , it should return below in my datagridview since it falls in that range
ID NAME STARTRange ENDRange
1 eric 12340 12349
I have a query like this which runs on access
SELECT UserName FROM details
GROUP BY UserName
HAVING (SUM(NumberOfPages) > 10)
is working fine but when i put "TotalPageCount = SUM(NumberOfPages) "
next to UserName like this

I used to develop applications in VBA, but now I'm using SQL Server 2008 Integration Services for a lot of the functionality, and using VB.NET as the scripting language where needed - all of which are new to me. I need to do the same string manipulation in several different SSIS tasks. With VBA, I'd simply write a function and declare it Public, and I could use it from any module. E.g.
Public Function MakeId(ByVal Country As String, ByVal Postcode As String) As String
....
End Function
' later...
Dim MyId as String
MyId = MakeId(County, Postcode)
But when I do that in a Script Task or Script Component, I find I can't call the function from VB in any other Script Task or Component; it says MakeId is undeclared. It works within its own 'box', but not from anywhere else.
I am using Visual Studio 2008 to try and create a calculator program that can convert binary to decimal. I have some code but I'm having problems figuring out what to write as an "argument" when I was to call the function.
Here is the code I have so far.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub btnCalculate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCalculate.Click

I'm taking a class in VB, so I have numerous projects. I have a lot of useful functions and code, and I'd like for them to all be included in on piece of code that all my projects can use. The problem with DLLs is that when I build, the EXE needs the DLL to be in the same folder. I want a standalone EXE file. Is there any way I can have a DLL in a different folder than the EXE and still use it? Or is there some better solution to having useful code somewhere so when I update that code, it will affect all of my projects?
