I have a simple program that runs in the background and when the user presses a certain key will take a printscreen and pop up a save file dialog to save an image. But sometimes the save dialog is not appearing because it loads buried under other pre-existing windows, which have to be minimized in order to find it. Is there any way to force this dialog to be on top?
When I call the save dialog object to prompt the user for a new file name, sometimes it does not appear as the active window, it is occasionally popping under all the open windows, and you have to minimize all of them back to the desktop to find it. What sort of problem would cause this, and is there a way to force it to the front?
I Am trying to connect to the database(in Sql Server 2008) through my vb.net desktop application, perform a backup, and then allow the user to save the backup file to their computer Using Save Dialog box in vb.net 2008.
How would I go about forcing a file to download from the web browser control so that instead of a file dialog box showing it will automatically download to a set folder?

I am trying to save the default color that the user changes via the dialog box on a form.
I have started the code as I thought below.

I have a small problem, When i Start Debugging my program a lot of windows popping up such as: Watch 1 - 4, Memory 1 - 4,Autos And Registers. What should I turn off to make them stop popping on debugging?
I am using a Windows Dialog form in my VB 2008 project. I bring up the dialog form no problem with the following Dim resultNewInc As DialogResult resultNewInc = frmDialog.ShowDialog() If resultNewInc = DialogResult.OK Then ...some code here ... End If
And in the Dialog Form, the OK button has code Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Me.Close()
But there is one problem. If I call up the dialog form again, the form controls have the text values that were typed in during the previous instantiation and a class which is part of the form was not disposed. So it looks like the form is being "hidden" and not closed. I tried to use the code form.dispose but it didn't work.
I am wanting to find out how to use the Win32 hooks to allow me to add extra save locations to the save and open dialog box so as to allow as an option for files to be saved directly to a database rather than a file system.I have tried looking online but can't find anything remotely usable for this, the only data on hooks that I can find involves Window operation hooks, mouse, leyboard, and shell hooks, nothing to do with files.

I am trying to save multiple text files using a save dialog.
I can save one textbox
SaveFileDialog1.ShowDialog() Dim File As System.IO.File Dim Write As System.IO.StreamWriter Write = File.CreateText(SaveFileDialog1.FileName) Write.WriteLine(TextBox1.Text) Write.Close()
but I don't know how to save multiple textboxes and richtext boxes. Would I have to use a screenwriter for this?
I am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system.While working on a visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.
I added a toolstrip to the form. According to my instructions I should be able to click on the Open file icon on the toolstrip to select it and then click anywhere else on the form. When I do that, the OpenFileDialog should appear on the component tray where I can then select it to enter code. This however does not happen.The only way I was able to get them to appear in the component tray was by opening the Menu program supplied on the DVD under chapter 4, selecting both of the above controls on the component tray, right clicking and then press copy. I then closed the Menu program and opened the MyMenu program that I created and then I was able to paste the two object controls to the component tray.
I went back to the original Menu program to see if I was able to place any other controls on the component tray by following the instructions in the book but was not able to. I also tried the same thing with MyMenu and it also still would not work.I have been unable to find anything that might explain why the component tray does not work as explained. Perhaps there is some setting somewhere that needs changed, but all searches have been unsuccessful.
PS. I have entered this on one of the other MicroSoft forums and although it has gotten multiple views I have not yet received any feedback.I also get the following error: Cannot add component of type 'ToolStripButton' to container of type 'form'.
Whenever I modify a file in the IDE in Visual Basic Express 2008, and then press the "Save" or "Save All" button, the "Save As" dialog opens, then says that a file of that name already exists and requests confirmation of the save. This didn't happen in Express 2005 as far as I remember.
I am trying to find a way to allow my users to choose the directory to save files into, THe file name is automatically generated as it has a naming convention and i am able to pre program a location to save to but i d like to be able to allow my users to decide themselves which directory they want to save the files to and to have the ability to choose which directory to save to
I am developing a VB application using the Visual Studio 2008 IDE. I was making changes to my code using the Quick Replace function when the dialog window stopped displaying. Selection of Quick Find or Quick Replace from the Edit menu, as well as use of shortcut keys (CTL+F and CTL+H) all have the same affect: the IDE loses focus but no dialog windows display. Is this a known issue with an available fix?
I wrote the programme with vs2008 and access 2007,i built its setup.when i execute my setup on winxp ,its true,but when i execute it on win 7 ,when i want to save my data i have an error.

i have various controls outputting to a word document e.g text box and rich text box and so on. What my problem is it works fine if i use the doc ext but when i change it to docx ext, when i open the document ( after it has saved to my desktop) it says there is a problem. I have a button on my form and when clicked I want to show the save dialog box but I want to have a filter so the file saved can only be .txt also I want to change the default location of the save as dialog, is this possible?
So far I have the following Dim filesaveas As New SaveFileDialog filesaveas.Filter = "Text Files|*.txt" filesaveas.Filter = "C:\Test\"
I would like to modify SaveFileDialog to instead save a new directory (which will contain new files automatically generated for the user based on the name of the directory). I can produce the necessary code to carry out the intended functionality, but I want the dialog to prompt for a 'folder name' instead of 'file name' and to not display 'save as type'. Is this possible? Is there a better solution for a create new folder/directory dialog? I know about folderbrowsedialog, but I need to force the user to name a new directory and identify the location
I am trying to pull up a save file dialog, see code below:-
Shared Sub SaveAs() Dim StrPath As String = "" Dim strFile As String = ""[code].....
What I need is the folder location path of where I am trying to save the file, which I was hoping to get from strPath. The name of the file (which I can get from strFile)I also need the file extension which I was hoping to get from strExt
Private Sub SaveAsToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SaveAsToolStripMenuItem.Click timedate.Stop()[code]......
The problem is that if I save a file I get "myfile.GDL" if I overwrite that I get a new file "myfile.GDL.GDL" ect.the other problem being that the filtering in the windows save/open dialog wont show .GDL files unless I select "all files".
Trying to make a save file dialog for this program. I have it working without syntax errors but its telling me "empty path name is not legal" and gives me a "Argumentexception was unhandled".[code]
