I'm sure most people on here have opened an OpenFileDialog or SaveFileDialog and set the SelectedPath property to point to some directory...
Has anyone done this on a Windows 7 machine and been able to point the thing to a Library? If so, what do you set it to?
I am retrieving some pictures from the images in my Picture Box on the form I added my "images" folder to the bin/debug folder , and used the code for retrieving images from this directory.

View 6 RepliesIt's been a while since I last posted something, but this attracted my attention. Since many of my programs share the same type of code, I decided to dump it all in a class library for other programs to use.
Now I have a problem, Windows Forms in a class library can't be displayed. There is no "Show(Dialog)" command, only some for event handling. All properties are gone as well. The only way I managed to display a form is by making it as a new variable: 'Dim f as windows.forms.form
But this won't work because of the enormous amount of handlers added to the original.
How can I show my (TextureBrowse in my case) Dialog so other programs can use it?
A similar request made the other day was for the color dialog to change at run time using the method below.can you show me where the difference is and of course how to resolve the problem as I want the user to be able to change the fonts.

I have a treeview control which is being used to browse various folder on the users system drive. It can also be set up to connect network folders using UNC paths e.g "serverfiles". At the moment I'm getting a list of Directories by using My.Computer.FileSystem.GetDirectories however this obviously fails when the folder is password protected.
Is there a way that I can get Windows to open the credentials dialog as you would see in Windows Explorer and deal with the credentials side so then the user name & password is cached as well?
I am using Process.Start(fileName) to let Windows open certain files outside of my application with their 'default application'.If "fileName" for example is a ".txt" file, it opens the file in Notepad. If it is a folder, it opens windows explorer with that folder selected.This all seems to work well, except when the user enters a file that has no application 'linked' to it.(a file that has no file associations)I have wrapped the Process. Start() in a Try/Catch block so that any errors are caught and displayed.When I now open a file without any file associations (windows does not know with which application to open it) it tells me that it cannot find any application to open it with. (The exact error is in dutch so I don't think that's going to be much help here, but I think it's clear what's happening, no?)What I would like to happen in this case is that the windows "Open With" dialog comes up, asking the user to select an application to open the file with. Now it just displays the error message and continues, making it impossible for the user to open the file unless he browses to the file manually and sets up the file association, something many users probably don't know how to do.

Whenever the code invokes the open dialogue box statement of the VB6.0 code, the application gets terminated.It is expected to open the dialogue box to provide the file path. I'm also having MS Office 2007 enterprise edition. If I do not have MS office 2007 enterprise edition installed, then it is working fine without any problem. So any suggestion/remarks to work on MS office 2007 enterprise edition?
View 1 Repliesi have a vb script that is imbeded in an html page (hta). when i use the common dialog flags = cdlOFNAllowMultiselect the file list is present in the filename object and are separated by a space. however when i use dialog flags = cdlOFNAllowMultiselect Or cdlOFNExplorer the files that i selected on the dialog box, are not present in the filename object. the only thing that's there, is the path to the files. here's the code:

View 3 Repliesim learning vb.net and i am trying to build a program for practice.in this program you can open word files with an open file dialog, after the word files were opened the document is added to a listbox. then you can open it again, but from the list box by clicking a Button. everithing is fine, exept one thing, even if i add 5 documents to the list,when i try to open them from the list it only open the last one thant was open by the open file dialog.

I am having a funny problem with OpenFileDialog that I just cannot solve. Using VB.NET 2008 Pro.
Problem: I run my program and click the menu item associated with this OFD and the OFD opens fine. When I select a file and click OPEN the dialog disappears then reappears. I click OPEN again and it disposes itself then loads the proper file into a form. The same thing happens with the CANCEL button as well.
Question: How do I go about coding the OFD to open a file that has been double clicked on thus bypassing dialogresult.OK . I can't seem to find an answer to this.
I have a simple program that runs in the background and when the user presses a certain key will take a printscreen and pop up a save file dialog to save an image. But sometimes the save dialog is not appearing because it loads buried under other pre-existing windows, which have to be minimized in order to find it. Is there any way to force this dialog to be on top?

But there is one problem. If I call up the dialog form again, the form controls have the text values that were typed in during the previous instantiation and a class which is part of the form was not disposed. So it looks like the form is being "hidden" and not closed. I tried to use the code form.dispose but it didn't work.

View 3 RepliesWithin my application we store objects i.e images,word docs, etc etc. These are stored in a listview and when the user double clicks the item it launches the default application assigned to the file type i.e a bmp will launch paint, doc will launch word etc etc.
Everything works great in all versions of windows except the new Windows 7 where i am getting this error message:
Im guessing this is something to do with permissions etc, but can anybody shed more light on this and where to look?
