how do I create a label that when clicked by the user, it will open a website using the default browser. I have seen the control LinkLabel but I do not know how it works or how to use it.
View 3 RepliesI've noticed that when you click on a web page in Windows Explorer, or open a file in general, and the default application to open it is internet explorer, ie opens and opens the file. However, when I tried this on my Web Browser it opened, but ignored the file and went on its usual routine. How can I get my Web Browser to open and open the file that was clicked on in explorer?

Im making a "offline viewer" which uses saved webpages.I'm using a web browser and a tree-viewer. Currently when you click a link for a file/ installer (for example if you click on the "The Gimp" installer link) you have to right click, and then "save target as..." and then save it (so you would then two copys of the same file) AND then open it.Is there way i could have the file open when the link click? (Again, for example, the running of The Gimp installer apon clicked, or the opening of the video file when clicked)

My situation is a little different. In my VB.NET project, I have imported (or created) a website that is contained in a folder named SAHelp. The idea is to have a local website installed to the user's computer so when they click help, the file C:[installation path]SAHelpindex.htm will open in their default browser.
I can certainly make this work by publishing a website to the real internet such as: System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://www.SomeDumbWebsite.com") which would act as my online help. But I want to bury this in my application.
Part 2: I'd like to detect if the user has an active internet connection:

View 19 RepliesSo I've made a program in VB 2010, and it has three comboboxes and a button to view. Now lets say my first combobox is "Type of website". The options are "search engines", "social networking" and "news". The second combobox values would depend on what the first combobox value is selected, like if it was "news" the options would be "technology", "uk", "us", and "world".
The third combobox would then use the values in the first and second comboboxes to give even more values, for example if it was "news" and "technology" the values would be "engadget" etc. Then the view button would open the selected website in an internet browser. How would I code this?

When I try to test this the .ExecuteNonQuery() becomes highlighted and says the given type name is unrecognized. My table is setup as table1 and the only 2 columns are datetime and temperature. I want the label text to go to temperature and I would like somehow the time the temperature was taken to go into the datetime field. I had the provider=microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0, but I changed it since I thought this was the one to use.
So I tried to use:
system.diagnostics.process.start("[URL]")
But it comes up with an error saying "Win32 exception was unhandled" "Application not found".
This code works:

But I would rather the program opens up the default browser of the user.
how will i check a default browser?i will open a site and i will opened it in IE only.so, i need to check first if the default browser is IE.if not,then i will open it in IE..if IE is not available then i will show a message that IE is not installed in your computer..also,if IE is already opened then i will launch the website on the next tab in IE browser.
i used process.start("iexplorer.exe",website) and it will create new instance of IE everytime i open a site.
