I'd like to be able to to login to a secure website directly from within my VB.Net 2005 app.
I can use the following to open the page in the user's default web browser
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://www.xxx.com/login") When you visit this webpage you're prompted for a username and password (using the .htaccess/.htpasswd method).
I'd like to be able to bypass the login popup and go straight to the logged in form (I have username and password stored in my.settings
I need to open a new instance of IE and direct it to a web page when a user takes a specific action.Used are random so setting anything on their machine is not an option.This works great on my local machine in developent but when deployed to my server it fails with no error.I must be missing a permission or something simple understanding that on the server things are run under the ASPNET account.My code is in a code class, myCode.We are in VS 2008 and IIS 6.Tried a couple of different things, they all fail silently.

My situation is a little different. In my VB.NET project, I have imported (or created) a website that is contained in a folder named SAHelp. The idea is to have a local website installed to the user's computer so when they click help, the file C:[installation path]SAHelpindex.htm will open in their default browser.
I can certainly make this work by publishing a website to the real internet such as: System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://www.SomeDumbWebsite.com") which would act as my online help. But I want to bury this in my application.
Part 2: I'd like to detect if the user has an active internet connection:
If (User has Active Internet Connection) then
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://www.SomeDumbWebsite.com")

View 1 RepliesJust a quick qquestion. My application opens a web browser window with the click of a button. Today it looks like this: Process.Start("[URL])(It's not this website, but this is just an example.) This will open the requested website with a specified number at the end of the adress.

Is there any way to make the webbrowser control in vb.net open new window links in the users default browser, it currently opens all links in IE even though my default browser is firefox??
View 4 RepliesI know about the RichTextBox & to recognize links & the event for clicking links but when I click links now NOTHING happens, not anything at all, how do I make it so the links will open in the users default browser when clicked instead of nothing though?
View 3 RepliesI have custom asynchronous WebRequest class that I am testing to find out how fast the request will be cancelled and found some odd results, that starting 6 WebRequests with TPL and cancelling them right away takes 25 sec, but when I used just regular background threads it took only 5 sec.
Update: Running them without cancelling takes with Task.Start 9 sec and Thread.Start 3 sec accordingly.

This operation takes around 7 seconds. I inserted Breakpoints and used F11 to determine that upon MySqlAdapter.Fill is where the lag starts. Both my computer and the server hosting the MySQL database are NOT challenged spec wise. I'm guessing it's the query itself. collectionitem holds the 2 foreign keys linking an itemproperty to a collection. we feed the sproc sId(PK of collection) so that the subquery returns all the itemids from a specific collection and then we use the itemid(PK) in itemproperty. Is there any way to speed up the process?
UPDATE My issue was entirely due to improper indexing. Once I learned which columns to index, everything is extremely smooth!
In my new application i have to process a SQL statement.Depending on the settings , the statement takes between 10 an 20 seconds.is there a possibility to display a second from / dialog / popup for this time?
View 5 RepliesI can't figure out how to make my web browser open links in a new page or tab instead of IE. I've tired at least a dozen different sets of code. None of them can be manipulated to fit my browser. When my browser first starts, there's an empty tab control. I put a new webbrowser in it at runtime and set it's dock to fill. I create new instances of the browser for new tabs as well. I just can't find how to make it open links in new windows.
View 3 RepliesSay you wanted to set a status message
' Set status
ssMainMessages.Text = msgValidating
Then perform an action that requires a http request that takes around 5 seconds then you want to display the result of that
' Set status
ssMainMessages.Text = msgValidated
It will only always display the second message? Its like it jumps the first part of the code and goes straight to httprequest.even if you put the update,system,threading.thread.sleep ....
An in-line table valued function in SSMS takes about 6 seconds to return 11088 records. The same function in VB .Net 4.0 using TableAdapters.InputTableAdapter.GetData (Created with data set designer) takes about 15 minutes complete.Both are executed from the same workstation.Why does this discrepancy exist?

Windows XP SP3, 2GB

i want to ask that how i can open a search page in my vb.net webbrowser with a separate textbox in a tool bar separate from the url text box
View 2 RepliesI am creating a WPF Application that uses Fluent library.
On my computer with Windows 7, 2GB RAM and AMD Triple Core processor, after double clicking on the program icon, The Splash image shows after about 1-2 seconds.
But on my brother's old computer with Windows XP, 512MB RAM and Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz Processor (Single core), after double clicking on the program icon, First, a process called PresentationFontCache.exe runs and it uses almost 100% of CPU for some seconds. And Total time is needed for displaying the initial Splash image is almost 30 seconds (or more).
I don't want that some users have to wait 30 seconds for displaying splash image and about 7-8 seconds for loading application. (my application load process takes 7-8 seconds)
I am creating my own browser. I want to make an option...to set as the browser to default.To do that I have to:Write a code which opens html(generally internet) file through my browser(form load event) DoneChange the "open with..." of the .html,.xml.... files Problem I want to change the open with event from my web browser. View 7 RepliesI am creating a webbrowser with Visual Basic, and I have finished everything but this: When I click on an external link, (I.E. On a photo, or on youtube) it opens up in a new IE window. I want it to open in my browser, not Internet Explorer.I have read everything I have found on this subject, but it is all for normal web browsers. I want to do this for a tabbed web browser, not one without tabs. Basicly, I want to use this code with my tabbed web browser that uses tab control.
Private Sub WebBrowser1_NewWindow(ByVal sender
As Object,
ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs)
Handles WebBrowser1.NewWindow

convert the code to be used in a browser with tabcontrol? I tried, and it works with one that DOESN'T use it, but I want to use it with my browser with tabcontrol. And, I have read ALL of the ones previously given to other people.
I've just finished making a web browser suited for my personal use, but when I click on a new link or something it opens a new window in Internet Explorer - which gets extremely anoying.. Is there a way to make all links open up in a custom browser?
View 19 RepliesI wrote an app in Visual Studio and is about 20k+ lines, but I don't know why it takes so long to start up. I have a splash screen just to test it to see if the program is working, and it is, but I have to wait for so long for the app to actually get to the start up form. A splash screen for this app isn't ideal, but was only using a splash screen for test purposes.
View 1 RepliesI coded a web browser over the course of a year called Nova - very advanced with tabbed browsing, bookmarks, homepage, history, etc etc etc etc. I could go on all day about how advanced it is. But.. there is one flaw. You cannot make it the default browser; I don't know the code!I already know the CommandLineArgs stuff so it actually opens the HTML file rather than just opening the program; in fact, I already can make files open with Nova completely. It's just the other stuff - you know, when a website is to be opened from a help file or something, it opens with Nova, Windows recognises it as the default browser, stuff like that.
View 3 RepliesOther topics around the Internet are all unfinished topics, so I'll ask this myself. How do I set a self-made browser as the default browser? I know it has something to do with accessing the registry and checking what the value is in some places, but I'm not quite sure. Now, I've made this browser called Nova;
very well coded and advanced, tabbed browsing, bookmarks, homepage, history, can change default search provider, uses Gecko as its engine so it's not just an IE shell, etc. It's been developed over the past year and will still continue to be developed. I'm almost ready to release the first version - but I just need this annoyance solved.
