VS 2008 Scan DriveFolder For Files And Store Folder Name And Files?
Apr 1, 2009
I need to scan either a drive are folder and search for .theme .VStyle and shellstyle.dll and there folder/subfolder names. The code scans for all .Theme files on the drive or in a folder, when it finds it it stores the folder name that file is in and also the name of the .theme .
To improve performance, when one has many files to readwrite it is better to save them in smallergroup in different folders. Is there a magic number over which it is better to start splitting the folder? for example below "10.000" (invented number) files can be stored in one single folder, while above that it is better to start storing files in multiple folders.
I am using the .getdirectory to scan my whole c drive for certain files to be backup. e.g *.doc. however when i run the code, i hit into error. stating folder access error. one of the folder which cause the error is system information volume.
in the current project im making i've decided to add in some tools, 1 of which is a renamer based of a renamer app that already exists (called scdtoolz), i want to build my own version of it so i can learn some new things, and build a nice GUI version of it.[code]So what i have managed to determine is that the current app scans the folders contents for the CRC32 Checksum, and renames based of that, since the 456.bin's CRC32 Checksum was 2274F80B, and in the text file 2274F80B is found here 'WWF - Rage in the Cage (T-81015)(U)#2274F80B#'So now i have determined game identification is based of the CRC32 checksums, how would i go about coding a similar ap in vb.net?first i need to make the app scan a folder, but how to return crcchecksum? and then rename if check = XXXX? If MD4 sums are easier/simpler i can use those instead, im lookin at a few hash app sources now, so i think i can see how to get the md5 but not the crc32 yet, or how to rename the 2 files and folder based of the text file.
I want to store large files(over 100mb) in a sqlite database. I noticed, that its not good in performance.Do I have to store the files in a local folder, or do i have to rewrite my code?
Shared Sub BlobToFile(ByVal Blob As Byte(), ByVal file As String) Dim MyData() As Byte = Blob Dim K As Long[code].....
I have created an updater for our clients application. The way the updater works is to download all the updated files and store them in a temporary folder then check the file hashes. If everything is ok it will copy the files to the applications installation folder. Once this is been completed it will delete all the updated files in the temporary directory.
My problem: I am looking for a directory that will be available for XP, Vista, and Win7. I was thinking about the 'temp' directory.
I wrote an application that copies files from Folder(A) into Folder (B) First it checks if the files exists if yes it will copy them and it will over write the them in fodler (B) and is working great , but if I have a file in Folder(B)that is located in a subfolder the file inFolder (A) will not be copied to the new location.
belwo is the code to copy the files if they exist :[code..]
I Need to Store bunch of Jpeg files from local file system to a column with image datatype in databse. Can any one please provide me some code to do it?
I'm doing a project where we are re-creating a very old system. The client wants the same base functionality and some improvements. One of the things I'm currently working on is the note-system. These are used as flags of some sort, but are also used as a comment field for some products or client profiles. In the old system you could write the text and save it like you would get in a .txt file. They want the new one to be able to do word formatting such as:
Different font sizes (Only some parts of the text) Different font colours (Only some parts of the text) Underlining of words Bolding Italics Tab-spaces
Those are the specs they want. What I need to know is the following:
1) How do I do that?
2) Currently they store all these files on the server as text files and the database have paths that refers to each file. I want to be able to save a text file with that formatting to the HDD of the server like in the old system.
3) If possible I would like to save that text to the database with the formatting.
I am using Visual Studio 2008 Setup project. I need to copy one folder and the sub folders into the program files but when I tried to copy or add the folder to "Application Folder" in File System editor, I am able to add only files and not folders.
I am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.
I have this at the moment:
Sub Import() Dim db As Database Set db = CurrentDb
Ok I know this question has been asked to death but I still have not seen a good answer. I have created an application in VS2010 using VB.NET. In my application I have an error log that is an XML file located in the Public gstLocalErrorLogLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "ErrorLog"that gets written to in the event of an error so I can trouble shoot application easier. My application also downloads files from our FTP site and puts the files in Public gstLocalDownloadLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "download"So I have files that get read and written to as well and created and deleted all in the Application.StartupPath which is either "c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" or "c:Program Files (x86)(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" depending on 32bit or 64bit Windows 7.
After creating the setup I install it on my test machine that have both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.Everything in the application works great till I have to write to, delete or creat a file in those directories above. I know it is an access issue and the UAC. This will get installed on numerous systems so the options I have seen to change file or folder permission on the computers manually is not an option. What has to happen is after I install the application it just works like when you install it on XP. Some post have suggested that you us a user with administrator privilages or group which is all fine and dandy but the user I have used to test the application has all of that.
So what I am asking is how do you create an application with VS2010 in VB.NET that after creating a setup package and installing on Windows 7 will just work with out "Access to the path c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File) is denied." If I have to install this on 100 Windows 7 computers it has to be a concreate no manually doing anything just install and work like when we installed on XP.
I am trying to retrieve file details from files in the Program Files folder. I receive an error while trying to retrieve file details.
Dim sFileName As String = ("%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe") Dim Info As FileVersionInfo Info = FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(sFileName) Msgbox(Info.ProductName.ToString())
I receive file not found error at 3rd line. But if I change the path from "%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe" to "c:Program FilesWindows DefenderMSASCui.exe" it works fine.
What should I do if I want to retrieve file details from the path which includes a "%" character?
im trying to split a folder of text files into several folders of no more then 12 files a piece, we have wedding photos 1-144 which would like to have um split into folders of 1-12,13-25 etc, found something that might work but it does it by files size

I am working on a small music player software that runs from the thumbdrive and does not need to be installed. The problem is that when ever i scan the directory for files, it will not scan unless I am running it on a computer that has previously compiled the code. Regardless of whether visual studio is installed or not. Below is the rountine for the scan that is not working. It seems to stop at the 'ForEach ti in hi.getfiles'.
UserInput.Close() Dim Found As String = "" Dim C As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyMusic Dim Directory As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory
My program allows users to upload some files so other users can download it. Is there a way that I can scan the files for virus upon upload/download within the program? How can I go about this?
EDIT: Actually is there a way for the program to use the installed Virus program located on the users computer?
I have an immediate requirement in my project.I need to scan any file for virus.if a virus exists then that file should be deleted and not saved in the server.this should be done within the code.
I'm getting ready to take a class in VB.NET and I had a friend ask me if I could make a little something for him, so I said sure not knowing what it was at first.
I know I can use a GetDirectories() to list all the files/folders in a given directory. The part I'm not to sure about is how to list them with list headers of Path, Size, etc, and have them sortable.
Im struggling with gettings the values from the right strings.txt in my resource files in my in folder when switching languages.

All the pictures will be bmp for now (hoping to change it to jpeg shortly) and this directory will only contain that and nothing else.Basically I have a PictureBox on a form (pbImage) I also have a Next button and a Previous button. What I want to do is when the form is loaded read that directory and display the first image in the picturebox. Then using the Next/Previous button go through the images.I don't know how many images will be in the directory and I don't know what the names will be.
What would you do to have a vb form (on a button press) print all files in a folder using the default/user associated program, and then delete everything in the folder?
