Store And Retrieve PDF Files Using SQL Server 2008 And VB 2010?
Feb 14, 2012
I'm trying to store and retrieve PDF files using SQL server 2008 and Visual Basic 2010.The Issue:i need to lookup a PDF file and store it to the DB using filestream and display it in Adobe Acrobat COM Control on VB Form?
Is it possible to store excel, word, pdf, .rar .zip files to a column in a table of a SQL Server 2005 DB.And also open the fie with excel, word, acrobat reader, etc????My other sollution would be to store the file on a location on a server and only sory the filename and location in my db and then open them with "Process.Start("filename")".My main problem with solution 2 is this:Lets say I install the programm on a pc called "manager". When I use the savefiledialog and I am on the manager pc the string C:/myfiles/test.xls will be stored
SQL Server supports the ability for clients to store objects within tables.Create Field that data type Image and Initialize byte array with a null value initially.Use FileInfo object to get file size.Open FileStream to read file.Use
store and retrieve image in a SQL Server database with vb.net.:Well, the application in vb.net seems to have a database which can accessed by the LAN computers so the SQL Server 2005 database allows remote computers to share its database once the other computer application requests database from the server. So, every other computer has to store and retrieve images in SQL Server 2005. For example, comp1 has to store images taken into the server and retrieve it like tableadapter.
I am using bindings and tableadapters to store the details in database and retrieving information from db. Please if you have code or anything which is working for me, please post it here... how to store image and retrieve it SQL Server through vb.net provided there's LAN computers who are also sharing the SQL Server database.
I am using vb.net 2005 and sql server...in vb.net, i was using picturebox.text to capture image from the user.
Am also using Bindings and tableadapters to generate the information from sql server..my server acts as designated server which lots of computers are using my server database...the sql server allows remote computers to share the database i have it in my server.[code]...
I have a process that's going to initially generate 3-4 million PDF files, and continue at the rate of 80K/day. They'll be pretty small (50K) each, but what I'm worried about is how to manage the total mass of files I'm generating for easy lookup. Some details:
I'll have some other steps to run once a file have been generated, and there will be a few servers participating, so I'll need to watch for files as they're generated.Once generated, the files will be available though a lookup process I've written. Essentially, I'll need to pull them based on an order number, which is unique per file.At any time, an existing order number may be resubmitted, and the generated file will need to overwrite the original copy.
Originally, I had planned to write these files all to a single directory on a NAS, but I realize this might not be a good idea, since there are millions of them and Windows might not handle a million-file-lookup very gracefully. I'm looking for some advice:
Is a single folder okay? The files will never be listed - they'll only be retrieved using a System.IO.File with a filename I've already determined. If I do a folder, can I watch for new files with a System.IO.DirectoryWatcher, even with that many files, or will it start to become sluggish with that many files?Should they be stored as BLOBs in a SQL Server database instead? Since I'll need to retrieve them by a reference value, maybe this makes more sense.
I'm doing a project where we are re-creating a very old system. The client wants the same base functionality and some improvements. One of the things I'm currently working on is the note-system. These are used as flags of some sort, but are also used as a comment field for some products or client profiles. In the old system you could write the text and save it like you would get in a .txt file. They want the new one to be able to do word formatting such as:
Different font sizes (Only some parts of the text) Different font colours (Only some parts of the text) Underlining of words Bolding Italics Tab-spaces
Those are the specs they want. What I need to know is the following:
1) How do I do that?
2) Currently they store all these files on the server as text files and the database have paths that refers to each file. I want to be able to save a text file with that formatting to the HDD of the server like in the old system.
3) If possible I would like to save that text to the database with the formatting.
I have a database table where the user marks files to be downloaded. Subsequently, I browse this table and need to create a fileList to pass to an ActiveX downloader. My routine works locally and on the server for ONLY the first file. I know my logic must be bad, but I cannot find it. All of these files are always in the same server directory which is as follows:
"D:inetpubvhostsWebSite.comsessionVideos" Sub (GetFileList) Dim dtVideosSelected As New DataTable
I need to scan either a drive are folder and search for .theme .VStyle and shellstyle.dll and there folder/subfolder names. The code scans for all .Theme files on the drive or in a folder, when it finds it it stores the folder name that file is in and also the name of the .theme .
As I'm working with some image files for my project, where should I store it ?I mean, they will be displayed frequently to the user. What I do currently is store in the app directory and when needed, I use:
For some background images, I used to set it at design time. That is, selecting the image needed using the Image property and never changes it at runtime. So, what will be best place to store it efficiently.
How can i store unlimited multi-row strings without the need of extra files?Example: the user enter a multi-row string into a textbox and clicks save. Then the program should save that somewhere. And then the user enters another string and clicks save. And then there is a combobox where it can choose between those 2 strings to load. Can i save them in some sort of collection like My.Settings.Collection? Where each text also has a header.
I have some data that I need to retrieve from an xml files CDATA as seen in <description> below.[code]Is there a way to separate the CDATA into separate lines as in the first example? The only thing I could think of was using split somehow?[code]
I want to write a program using vb.net tht compares the name of a document on my desktop to the name of the document on the server. If they're the same then I'd like to retrieve it and have it replace the file I already have.
How can i do this? Does this mean that i have to write a web application cuz i hope not. I dont no anything about those. I am using that server for storage purposes only so i assumed that i didnt need a database for the name of the document.
So, how can i do this? Is there an existing class/package in vb.net that does something like this?
I accidentally submitted it before realizing that I probably should have selected the "Visual Basic General" forum. I am attempting to retrieve file properties of all files in a particular folder. I have used objFolder.GetDetailsOf... to retrieve the desired information of Excel workbooks saved in Excel 2003 format, but I cannot retrieve the information from files savied in Excel 2010 format.
A while back I asked about going beyond basic FTP upload/download on this thread, and the response I got about using FtpWebRequest was very helpful. Now I'm looking at something that doesn't seem to be offered in FtpWebRequest: renaming a file on the server.
My situation: several times each month I update MyConfig.csv on my website. This file is generated on my computer by Excel to control who can access which files on the site, and it runs a bit over 1 MB. The scripts on the server parse through the file to keep things running smoothly. Given that the file can take some time to transfer, I typically will upload NewMyConfig.csv to the server with a commercial FTP program, then when it is in place I rename the existing file to MyConfigBackup20100521.csv and then rename NewMyConfig.csv to MyConfig.csv. This way, if there is a problem with the upload, everything keeps running smoothly because the existing MyConfig is undisturbed, and the window when a customer might get an error from the scripts because there is no MyConfig.csv is reduced to a couple of seconds between the two rename operations.
Now I'd like to automate all of this to happen with a VB program, but it looks like FtpWebRequest only allows you to rename directories, not individual files, on the server.
I would like to be able to retrieve a substring in a string... I have a variable named htmlTAG that contains the contents of a webpage... I need to be able to get the text that is search_type=reverseaddress" rel=nofollow>Text to retrieve... </A> And store it in a textbox1, then go to next instance of that and get the text again... to the end and be able to exclude all instances that say "See full listing". I am supporting one old project built on VB6.0.Can anyone please tell me how to store and retrieve collection from Dictionary.I searched over net but got nothing satisfactory.I really got strucked because of this. Please provide Any Example or Any Link,so that i can do self study.
We are trying to store and retrieve datatable as blob (varbinary(max)). We convert the existing datatable into an xml file and store that xml file as a blob and while retrieving we get the blob as xml file and convert it back to datatble. It seems to be storing and retrieving the xml object but having issues while converting it back to the datatable ("End of stream - error").
I built a small website and there will be only one admin, so in the admin panel I am asking for a password with a value that I do not retrieve from a database, I just hard coded it in the function in code behind, I know this is wrong though I don't know why.
So is hard coding it in web.config the right thing to do? and how?
Here is my problem: I need to store HTML in a MySQL database. Afterwards, I need to be able to retrieve the HTML and have it be valid HTML that a browser can render.
How can I store HTML in a MySQL database using .Net? How do I retrieve it afterwards? As this is the design phase, I can create the database any way that is needed.
I am wanting to create my own version of MSN and I want to save rego information that the user can do just in frmRegistration to my server, what is the best way to do this?
I like the PHP way of doing things but, it seems I am stuck with using a Collection of Object's to store/retrieve the data I need. I have my Collection loaded with my Objects's and the code to iterate through the collection, my problem is I am unable to retrieve the "key" as it would be called in PHP (I believe in this case it is actually the name of the object).
Consider the following example:
Dim xDoc As XPathDocument = New XPathDocument(fName) Dim xNav As XPathNavigator = xDoc.CreateNavigator()
Dim sender As XPathNodeIterator
[CODE]...
As you can see, I am navigating an XML document, and creating an Object with some Key/Value pairs. The Object would look something like this if it were in JSON:
When I iterate though the Collection I can only get the value of the object, but I need the Key, in this instance I want "name","address1","city","state" to be stored in a variable for each iteration.
