Asp.net - Retrieve And Download Server Files (File.Exists And URL)
Sep 6, 2009
I have a database table where the user marks files to be downloaded. Subsequently, I browse this table and need to create a fileList to pass to an ActiveX downloader. My routine works locally and on the server for ONLY the first file. I know my logic must be bad, but I cannot find it. All of these files are always in the same server directory which is as follows:
"D:inetpubvhostsWebSite.comsessionVideos"
Sub (GetFileList)
Dim dtVideosSelected As New DataTable
I usually download file using following code:My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile("url of the file","filepath to save the file")But recently I encountered a site that only allow file download if you click it from its site and not via direct downloading from vb.net code. How to download file from http server that requires a referral before allowing the download?
i need to download all files fron FTP server folder. is it possible to download the folder from FTPserver? if not is it possible to download all files from folder because i have a requirement that i need to download all the files from that folder in FTP server. even i don't know the files name. i'm starting to create a project in wich I will be able to download all kind of files from an FTP server. I'm using this code to upload files and it works.

So my program allows people to download/upload text files from an FTP server... But... is this safe? I've always been a little scared with FTP because I fear that some lowlife is gonna hack into it. Is there another way to do this? Or is there a way to make this connection much safer?
Is there any way to download multiple files at the same time from a remote server? How I am doing it currently is I get a list of files from the target folder on the server then I loop through that list & download each file 1 at a time. For 100 small files it takes about 45 seconds. I'm guessing that the bulk of the time it takes is logging in to the server for each file to download, so 100 files means it has to login, download & logoff 100 times. Is it possible to login just once, download the 100 files then logout?
I need a vb source to get the web server path files and download it to the local machine. actually a web html page in that i have href tag to call the vb exe file, in vb file i have to find current server path and download some supporting files to local machine
I'm trying to write a windows app that will download files from a server. It is working fine for small files, but not the larger ones (50Mb+)- I get the error "An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or because a queue was full."This is the code I am using:
Private Function DownloadFile(ByVal fileSource As String, _ ByVal fileDestination As String, _ ByVal WebRequestType As String) As Boolean
I'm trying to store and retrieve PDF files using SQL server 2008 and Visual Basic 2010.The Issue:i need to lookup a PDF file and store it to the DB using filestream and display it in Adobe Acrobat COM Control on VB Form?
How can I check if a file exists on a server? Let's supposed that I want to check if "[URL]" exists. How can I do that?
I tried to do this but it does not work: Dim fso As New FileObject If fso.FileExists("[URL]") Then MsgBox("exists") Else MsgBox("File not found") End If
I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.
I am trying to retrieve file details from files in the Program Files folder. I receive an error while trying to retrieve file details.
Dim sFileName As String = ("%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe") Dim Info As FileVersionInfo Info = FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(sFileName) Msgbox(Info.ProductName.ToString())
I receive file not found error at 3rd line. But if I change the path from "%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe" to "c:Program FilesWindows DefenderMSASCui.exe" it works fine.
What should I do if I want to retrieve file details from the path which includes a "%" character?
What I to do is be able to find out if a text file or any file exists on a server such ass we all know that exists but how can I get VB to produce a message box telling me whether this file exists let alone get VB to search for the file, I've search the site and the MSDN but I cant figure out what code i need to do its been bugging me for weeks
I'm not sure what to use to insert a file that's located on the server into the sql database. I've read a bunch of articles but none of them show how to just grab a file without using fileupload.
Couldnt think of a good name for this post but I tried my best.I have a button which checks with a FTP server if the text in a textbox exists as a file. If it does then form1 opens.Sometimes the connection check times out.So Is it possible to make a small code like this? if form1.show (doesnt show after 10 seconds) then go back to the beggining try again end if
I have a process serves as an application updater. It checks it's local cache of files and compares this against list of files online. On it's first run there are no files in the local cache and it therefore downloads ~100 of these files.[code]This appears to work very well, since Explorer confirms that all files are extracted and available. However when I later run this process again, it cannot verify the existence of 6 of these files and therefore tries to download them despite the fact that they are clearly both present and up to date. The offending code is a simple File.Exists call which appears to deny the local existence of these files, and therefore tries to get them again. The system continues to work well, but over time the continual downloading of these 6 files is going to get kind of silly.
How can i download a file from an ftp server, i can upload but i dont now how to download.and the ftp file is raw and raw = not on a download page just on the server

I'm looking for a way to (easily, by preference ;)) create a download link to a file on a separate file server. The situation is as follows: the application I'm developing (asp.net 2.0 in vb.net but I have a similar issue in c#, either solution works for me) will be run internally for a company. As is good practice, the file storage and web application are on two separate servers.I basically need to be able to create a download link to a file, the only available URL i have to access the file is servernamefolder1folder2folder3file.txt (can be any sort of file)[code]Which doesn't work for obvious reasons. It used to be set up to write that file to the application path itself and that worked perfectly, but it isn't good practice and that's why I'm changing it (or trying to).I read solutions about creating a download page and then having a table in your DB which holds the links and returns the proper web URL for download but the time constraint I am faced with unfortunately doesn't allow me to develop that.
Assuming I can provide a string with the full filepath to the file like the above, what is the easiest way to just create a link that, when clicked, downloads the document? I have 0 admin rights in this environment. That really isn't helping me. Let's assume I am given the correct link like above and have the appropriate file access rights and such. The above example does work in IE, but not in Firefox and Chrome. IE converts it to a file://servername/... link which does what it's supposed to, but FF and Chrome both actively decided that this is unsafe and have disabled it from their browsers.
I recently set up an apache server in a small computer (its an ALIX board) and i need to download some files that are going to be stored in that machine. The web server is running and I can create a file called "moo.txt" and if i go to the web browser I can see its contents Now, I need to create a vb.net application to communicate with this machine and download that file So far I have tried the following
I need to download files from internet without using FTP, here's my idea:To check version of the program and also download updates. So firstly, when the user enters the splash screen there is a timer which will check updates (downloadTimer) so then downloadTimer starts to download this txt file http://localhost/version.txt and then when its downloaded (and replaced the old one that was on the computer already) and then after that, read the file. If the version.txt contains version 1.0 then pass the check and splash screen closes, main form opens, else then msgbox ("Please Wait!" & vbcrlf & "Downloading updates") and then download updates with the same way from downloading version.txtOh! and also when the file is downloaded (version.txt) save it to "c:programMyApplicationversion" downloading the file without using FTP (if there isn't any other way i could use FTP).File reading could be made with an IO.FileStream thingy. So how do i do the download part?
