VS 2008 Search Sql Server Database From .Net And Output Results In A Listview?
Dec 30, 2010
I want to search a sql server database from VB.Net and output the results in a Listview. I don't want to use code that involes queries in it, but the queries are to be used in the data set designer, i.e the query builder. Here's what I got so far.
I created a query in the builder called SearchStudent
SELECT FirstName, Surname, Email, PredictedGrade, Notes
FROM tblStudent
WHERE (FirstName LIKE @FirstName) OR
(Surname LIKE @Surname)
Here's the code to search the database and fill the dataset

I have a little problem with interacting with sql server from vb.net. I look here [URL]. I made an sql server table called Per: Until here all it's ok. What I want to do is to insert in the two textboxes the user types Mike (in textbox1) and Bottomley (in textbox2) ,press the button search and stored the results in listview if he finds the row (and in this case it finds).
Here is the printscreen of my windows forms application vb.net (I am using visual studio 2008. So I type in the two textboxes Mike(textbox1), Bottomley(textbox2) press the button and it searches in my sql server table (if it finds -in this case I have this rows it's row1) it displays me the result in the Listview.

I am currently attempting to write a program that will take a SQL query saved as a .sql or .txt and execute it against a specified database, and output the results to file. I have seen some sample code of executing a SQL query line by line,
and writing individual results to file.
The query that needs to be run is only reading information from multiple tables, but is pretty lengthy to do line by line. Is it possible to execute or read the whole query from the .sql file, or a text file, and run it against a specified database, and
have the results of the query output to file in vb.net?

I have a datagrid control with a list of names that it retrieves from a MySql database. I can search through them until i have one result. I want to be able to Display a groupbox control when the number of results is equal to 1. Also, in the groupbox i have a button that when clicked will delete this user from the server and their information from the mysql table called "employee". when the user is deleted i'll display a confirmation message in a messagebox, and reload the table with the updated list. so far the only two problems i have are showing the groupbox when the results are equal to 1 and deleting the user from the sql server based on the name of the search result
Private Sub TextBox1_KeyUp(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyUp
'Search Function.

I have a Search web reference (from a Search Server 2010 express install) in a vb.net application that is utilizing the QueryService Class to search a production Sharepoint foundation 2010 site.At a previous point in time, we had created a proof of concept on an entirely test system that has since been turfed. From my recollection on this test system when documents were uploaded as a specific site content type (that inherits from document) and metadata was provided, we could search for specific metadata by making managed properties for each, and search results would be returned as documents (with the isdocument flag set to true). Viewing the document then became simple, as we could simply use the filename and path to display the stored file. Now we are developing a production system and we have encountered a new behavior, where these results now are returned as aspx results such as
[URL]
This of course makes it terribly difficult to locate and view the document, we can extract the Title which will then give us the name of the file with no extension, but that hardly helps, as the FileExtension data is aspx, not the documents file extension, so we don't have a full filename. We could display the page returned as a result, but would much prefer the document itself.
I've made a test document library, with just bare bones setup, (not using the site content type, or site columns) and uploaded some documents on the same site, and they are returned in the same fashion, so I don't believe the document library, or content type are the issue.
With a fairly limited understanding of both Sharepoint and Search Server, I don't know if this is a setup issue with the search service itself, with the site configuration, or with the querypacket I am sending. We also have a third party application (Knowledgelake) installed on the server that ties into sharepoint which could have changed configuration somewhere as well?
I don't think the query packet has changed since it was working in the proof of concept, other than the custom data column names. I will provide it here in case there is something glaringly obvious to an external reader.
<QueryPacket xmlns='urn:Microsoft.Search.Query.Document'>"
<Query>
<SupportedFormats>
<Format>urn:Microsoft.Search.Response</Format>

I am making a project in VB 2008 that has a Form (form1) that allows me to add new records to a database, and another Form (form2) that allows me to search for records in a database. I have done Form1 already, but my problem arrives in Form2 where I have to query the database. This form consists of 1 textbox (txt_search.text), 1 button (btn_search) and 1 datagridview (datagridview1). The name of my database is db_extras_test2003.mdb and the table I want to search records from is tbl_contacts.
I know +/- the SQL sintax to query the database (SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE columnname = (here i dont know if i put the variable name i have set for the txtbox, or the textbox itself)).I want this in a way that I (or other users) type in the textbox, hit the Search button and the results are shown in the datagridview (i can show the results in another way if it is better to do so).I have done the connection to the database already. The code I have so far is the following, but it doesnt work

I am converting an old script from ASP to ASP.NET and would like some advice. The original ASP script used Response.Write to output information about what happened during execution. I have rewritten the entire thing in ASP.NET but it is new to me as an old-school C programmer. The job requirements include using the VB flavor of ASP.NET, btw.
I originally put up a TextBox and edited the text property to dump my final report. Now they want different colors for different message importance and I find that the TextBox can only do one color for all lines. I fell back to the old standby R.W but I get a message that it's not declared and from looking around I see that it's an issue because I'm calling it from the code behind and that is 'out of scope' from the HTML elements of the page itself.
My question is what is the best way to output information to the web page with different lines being different colors from a page's code-behind?

I am using a mysql database and I am trying to get the number of results. I should only have 1 result because this is for a username/password login. I tried this
If loginReader.HasRows Then
'do whatever here
Else
'do something else here
End If
The loginReader gets the results and does the ExecuteReader. The problem with this is that if I use a good username and password it works but if I put in a bad username and password it doesnt do either one of them. Any ideas on how to just count the number of results?

I have a data table that has thousands of entries. The table has employee production information: YearMonth, Employee ID, Pages worked and Jobtypes (e,k,o and r). I need to calculate a sum of each jobtype and a sum of pages worked for each jobtype, for each individual employee. I am pulling this data from an Access database and so unfortunately I am unable to use LINQ.[code]...

We have migrated one of our websites from a windows 2003 machine with IIS5 installed.Search within the website also used an indexing service to search within a Catalog "index_pdf".The catalog indexed a folder on the server and Adobe iFilter 6.0 was used to be able to search through the pdf files. While migrating, we switched to another OS -> Windows 2008 (x86). On this machine we installed but now searching through .pdf documents doesn't work. We tested the website on a different server with different versions of PDF iFilters but unfortunatly without any result. Even on a Windows 2008 (x64) server with the 64 bit version of Adobe PDF iFilter we couldn't search through .pdf files.
Our findings:The classic Indexing Service in combination with classic ASP works. (filtering on pdf hasn't been tested)The classing Indexing Service in combination with ASP.NET doesn't work.On windows 2008 servers we have to use Windows Search, because IIS7.x communicates on a different way with the Indexing Service. Now we have to find a way to rewrite our excisting VB.NET code to a way in which it wil work with the new Indexing Service which we don't know to well yet.My question is how to approach this.

I had done this by using the query builder (in VS Studio) but soon found out thay I gain no points by doing it this way as I am not using any code. I have tried to adapt the code I had to insert data into my database, just changing the SQL sintaxa and some other bits, but it is not working yet. Well, it gives results, but I think it is still geting the results from the query I had built using the query builder. Here is the code I've got so far:
Public Class Form2
Private Sub btn_search_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btn_search.Click
Dim str_search As String = txt_search.Text
Dim str_dob As String = txt_dob.Text

I'm installing Microsoft Search Server 2008 express with a view to indexing some content for an intranet application.
Having not used Search Server before, i am looking at ways of my asp.net app (.net 3.5) querying the search server.
I'm just starting to look into Search Community Toolkit to see if it is relevant to what i want to achieve. But was wondering if you guys can point me in the right direction (code, articles, etc).

I have data entries in my database that have a common field. For example:
account_id type user_id
1 new 1
2 old 3
3 new 1
4 old 1
I am using a query like this(mysql): SELECT account_id, type, user_id FROM table WHERE user_id = 1
This is just all theoretical. The problem that I am having with this is it is only returning the first result in this case account_id 1. How can I get it to find all the results with the user_id 1 because in the way I am thinking that it is failing is that it is finding only the first result and then ending?

I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.

I have 2 forms in my visual basic 2010 project. Both are connected with an SQL 2008 Server where i keep a db with customers records(name, surname, address, etc). What i want to do is to give certain criteria in the first form, lets say name, and hit a search button. The program should search the db if the specified name exists. If it exists i want to show the results in the second form.By results i mean the name , surname, address, etc. If it does not exist i want to prompt the user to insert data into the db.The problem is that i know how to do this work in a single form but not how to make the two forms "communicate" with each other (meaning that one does the search and the other the projection-adding part).
Edit:I tried setting the filters but all i get is errors. I will post whatever i have written so far in case someone can help me out. So here it is.As i stated earlier i know how to search for the data in a single form(lets call it DisplayForm). As Olivier mentioned i have textboxes for the records, a combo box with the search criteria(name , surname,id) and a Search button that perfoms the search and populates the text boxes. The code for the search button is this:
Private Sub btnSearch_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSearch.Click
Dim intPosition As Integer
'Combo box code
Select Case cboField.SelectedIndex
[code]....
I want this procedure be done in a second form (lets call it FormSearch) and populate the textboxes in form DisplayForm.

Ok I can successfully connect to my Access database but I am still learning on how to output that data. Here is the run down.I am designing a page where the user inputs the customer ID and then gets a list of incidents for that customer. Then I would like the user to be able to add a survey about the incident.Problem I am running into is the ability to display this data. I have tried various method. Eventually I want to be able to display the data into a listbox and have them select it and take the survey but I am not near that far yet. Here is what I have on the connection and my attempt which doesn't work to output the data:

I'm using visual studio 2010 and sql server 2005 to store my data. I'm creating a system that will allow me to find/search for records that are stored within the database. Thing is, i have 2 separate forms for this - one is the find/search page which allows you to enter in as many fields as you want (the more you enter, the more efficient the search is) and the second one is the find/search results page which will show the results from the search.
I'm not using a datagrid as i've already created these forms myself. I'm on a tight schedule because i've spent so much time already trying to get this to work. Do i need to create another dataset and tableadapter and bind the text boxes? how will i code the find/search button so the search will be carried out and the results will appear in the other form?
