i want to snap one forms edge to another when within 10pixels of each-other.
I did try a little with LocationChanged event, but i couldn't get this to respind in the way i wanted.
Ideally i want to snap a second form to the rightmost edge of my first form.
I have multiple forms within a form, typically up to 16, and I want these "inside" forms to snap all edges between eachother or the parent form edges, when a form is resized or moved, and edge comes within x pixels of any other edge.How should I approach this? What I can think of is to raise an event on the form that is moved/resized which calls a parent form handler method that loops through all the forms, check the edges and then keeps fixing (repositioning) the active form if any of its edges is close to any other form edge
View 3 RepliesI have 3 PictureBoxes on a form that are tiled on top of each other. the form has a minimum vaule of (502, 416) and a maximum of (502, 1080). because the user can select from a MenuStrip to display '1', '2' 0r '3' PictureBoxes at once '3' being the bottom and '1' being the top PictureBox. What i need is when the user drags down the form it snaps to the next PictureBoxes position, so it goes down in blocks this is what i have so far which is pretty far from working.

The panels can be moved with the mouse and stop moving once the left mouse key is released.For the movable panel I have used a Class, it creates an object called NewComp in the toolbox.

I have been working on a windows form over the last couple days and I have hit a brick wall when trying to move my controls.
I think I have basic understanding of anchoring and docking but I'm not getting the results I'm hoping for so I have attached some screen shots of what I'm trying to do.
It's not about re-sizing more about moving the controls to the outer edges when my form is maximized.

I've got a usercontrol that's a simple rectangle with three labels on it. It's essentially triggered to give a caption to an image when the mouse is moved over it. As I feared, adding the control to the form (or any container on the form) restricts drawing the control to the region defined by the container. I tried increasing the region of the form and the container, but it still didn't draw outside the container.
So my question is: Is there a way to make the control display partially inside the container/form and partially outside it, or is there a better object type that will do what I want?

I would like my 'quit' button to appear in the bottom right hand corner of my menu screen, but it seems that every computer in the office has a different sized screen, different size ration (some are widescreen) and different resolution. When I deploy my program, the quit button may appear off-screen (the user has to scroll down to find it) or it may appear half way across the screen on a widescreen laptop for example. If I set my form to 'maximized', is there a way to position a button relative to the bottom right hand corner of the form? Also, on one maximized form I have two datagridview's side by side. Is there are way to automatically set each one to take up half of the available form width, so they fill the form nicely?
View 2 RepliesI've got a borderless form that I'm handling the MouseDown, MouseMove & MouseUp events to do the dragging and re-sizing which I have working just fine but I started thinking how neat it would be if I could have the borderless windows snap to each other and to the edges of the screen(s), this part I'm stuck on. I've got them snapping together just but and I've got it snapping to the edge of the screen but I have a dual monitor set up at home and I can't move it to my right side secondary screen with the code I have now. I'm attaching a sample VS2010 project with only the relevant code for this.Eventually I might add in the snapping to the desktop edge or to another note window's edge when resizing too, but that's not my focus right now.

The problem is that when it reaches the edge of the form it continues to move and eventually leaves the form entirely. So my question is how do i work out if my object has touched the edge of the form?

I create a control with a single label in, I don't change anything except the colour of the control and the label and also making the label anchor to the edges ( with a small border around the edge)
When i then build it and add this control to a form. Some of the edges are cut off and it isn't anchored the way it was in the control.[url]...
as you can see in the second image the control has lost its white border at the right and bottom.

View 2 RepliesOn each of my form I have put an 'Exit' button. When user clicks it, another form is displayed (I don't want to use 'MessageBox') asking user whether he really wants to quit. If user clicks yes the form closes. If user clicks no, form is redisplayed.
However, out of 4 forms only one form refuses to redisplay. The code is exactly same on all forms. I have included 2 Express 2008 projects showing one form each in the zip file apps-ssk.zip

In VB 2008, I have a Parent form with a combo box on it. There is a child form also with a combo box on it. I want to be able to change the values on the child form based on what the user selected from the main form. The user launches the child form from a toolbar on the Parent form. What I want to do is if the Parent's combo box has "Red", "Blue", "Green" values and the user selects "Green", the child form's combo box(With the same values) will also change to "Green". (I do not need to change the Parent form if the child form changes.) I've tried changing the Child's combobox from the combobox's change event on the Parent form, and the code runs, but nothing changes on the child form.
I am using vb.net 2008 i have been using a mdi form which is the startup form for my prog. and i have a main menu on that form. now i would like to shift to tree view as my client has asked for it. whenever a node is selected i can select the form corresponding for that particular code. everything is fine till here. but when the form is loaded the tree view is coming on top of the form the tree view is docked in a pannel. now i have tried everything treemenu.sendtoback and the say the form to b called is taxtypemaster then taxtypemaster.bringtofront but still the tree view is coming over the form

I need to know the proper way, or maybe I should say, the different ways to call another form from a parent or preceding form. I am currently using ex: formname.showdialog() to call my next form, but I am uncertain if I should be using that in every situation. [code] Whats the difference between these different methods? View 5 Repliesi am having an issue populating two combo boxes on form load. The program will connect to an access database and pull data as instructed. Then as it pulls each record it puts it into the combo box.
This was working.. atleast i think it was. i dont recall it ever not working, however i wasn't looking for it.
My problem is that if when i load the MDI parent form and have it skip the selection form and the login form and load the next form in the sequence, it loads everything perfectly. However if the select form is loaded first, then the login form and then the form i need loaded, it will not populate. The only difference between the two different loads is that the login form calls a function that loads the form as a new project.form
I did this so that I can have multiple forms open at a time. I am assuming my problem is that I need to get the child forms handle then populating controls using that handle? but i think if I had to do that then I would beable to populate the comboboxes on the first form load using the login method of opening the form.

I have one form, which the user enters upto 5 websites then clicks go - I have on the second form, the one with the webbrowser. timer which checks if the web browser is busy then either a green light or black image will be shown along side the assocaited input box on the first form. 1. Attack (a regular attack that would deal the damage from form 1)
2. another attack ( this deals damage from form1 + 8)
3. another attack ( deals 30% damage for 4 attacks [so 4 attacks that deals 30% damage each])
4. another attack ( this one is great. it deals damage of 2 times of minimum damage to maximum damage and a third label box lblAP (attack power) which each 2 points of attack power you have it adds 1 more damage.)
i can do that math i just have no clue how to bring the info from form 1 to form 2.

Then from the login form I want to re-enable the base form that is disabled... I have set it to be enabled at the closing of the login form... doesn't work.. i have set it to be enabled through a collection and calling that base forms handle... doesn't work.. Anything that i might be overlooking?These forms are inside an MDI form..
