I have a textbox which has about 120 lines of text but this can vary. I want to search for an array of words, like Boeing, Airbus, Saab etc there might be 3 options there might be 5 options in this array that i'm looking for. My question is how can I search the textbox and highlight all these words? Similar to (Control + F) in IE8. I've looked at InStr but am unsure if this is what I'm after as it does not seem to work for me.
I'm attempting to setup a search function from a string a user types. (ex: "John Doe" or "Doe, John") I was thinking I would use Replace(SearchString, ",", "") to get rid of the commas the user might enter, and then use Split(SearchString, " ") to get all the words into an array. Once they're in the array I would execute a Stored Procedure on each of the terms and build a DataTable with the results.
Below is what I'm wanting to use for executing my stored procedure.
Now I'm thinking the "SearchString" I will assign while looping through my array of words... but this doesn't seem like the right way to do this. Maybe it is but I don't know how to append my next result to the previous DataTable either.
I was wondering how would i make a search kind of thing, for example if string1 contains all the words in string2 words. like a search(not just if string1 contains string 2).
it should work something like this:
If string1 is "an apple" and if string2 is "djsjfsfg apple sdfsfssdfs" then string3 would be nothing
BUT
If string1 is "an apple" and if string2 is "djsjfsfg apple sdfsfssdfs an ashdfjdsgfsdgfj" then string3 would be "djsjfsfg apple sdfsfssdfs an ashdfjdsgfsdgfj"
I have a situation where a user can enter just about anything they want into a text box.Whatever they enter in the box, I need to split the string into an array of strings where each item is one word. For example, if the user enters All State Insurance, I split that into a string array:
changing the way the site search is done from just search a phrase as one string to searching a phrase "as multiple words" search. For example, if I search "cute puppy" right now, it will search it for "cute puppy" as phrase and won't match just "cute" and "puppy". The way the search is implemented is by passing a search phrase to a Stored Procedure in SQL Server. So now, I need to change to site search so when "cute puppy" is searched, it will search two words.... "cute" and "puppy" instead of just "cute puppy". Below is how the store procedure is implemented
I am in a "survey of programming languages" course and have a professor who doesn't teach. There is no text book for this course.I am working a VB Form project to take a URL, grab the HTML source code, parse out all words, and count the occurrences of each word on the page. I have built the form, and written the code to parse the words and store them in an array. What is the most efficient way to count the occurrences of each individual word in that array (case insensitive), sort the results decreasing from most frequent, and display the results of the ten most used words. I will be displaying the results in two separate listboxes on my form. 1 listbox shows the words, and the other shows the number of occurrences.
Im trying to work out what the best way to match 2 strings together, but with a difference.
String1 = "dog cat bird chair book table" String2 = "the dog chassed the cat around the chair"
No I know I can break string1 up by space character and check if each word appears in string 2, I would prefer to not have to do that.If there some sought of regex that would take a group of words and retrun how many of them matched ?
As noted in my comment to Jon Skeet, this construct, along with the rest of the Object's components, executes 100,000 times in a profiling loop in ~570ms (rough average of 3-5 runs).
Exchanging the above construct out with a smaller Array.IndexOf construct loops 100,000 times in ~630ms (again, 3-5 runs, rough average, the whole Object). The new construct looks like this:
Dim p As Int32 p = Array.IndexOf(TestValues, s) If p <> tstNotSet Then
I have been searching for a while now, but I still can't seem to figure this out. I wrote a rather large program, and to make things more efficient I started to create structs to store more info in a variable. All was well replacing my old code with new code, till I reached a certain point and found that blindly using a loop of integers to access the indexes of the array wouldn't work anymore... I need to access a specific struct by the information contained in a single variable within the struct (like a hashtable key), but can't seem to figure out how.
Is it possible for me to go through my array indexes in a fashion like this?: Dim myArray(TableCount) As myStruct Dim TableName As String = "SomeTable"
Created for Bill Smith Bill Smith 100 Maple St. Nowhere, MI 49091 Program Information undecided about Your Career Path? I can find the position where "Created for" occurs in the string
VB Private Function FindText(ByVal strText As String) As String Return InStr(strText, "Created for") End Function
I am trying to get the first and last name that occurs right after the "Created for" in that string but I have not found a good way to do so. Essentially there are multiple files in a directory that I am spinning though and changing the name of the files to match the name in the file.
I need to create a code that searches an array of movie titles. When the user enters a specific string, the first movie title that contains that string is displayed. For example, entering "he" would display Sherlock Holmes as opposed to the Blind Side. I don't know how to create a code that reads a string that the user enters.[code]...
I am trying to search the 4 columns of my array by using this click event. The column is determined by a radio button as you can see. I changed my code from last time and now it works, but only for the first column. If i try to search out a string in the second or third columns I get an error based on the line highlighted in blue HTML accutally shows and it is green. the error says Index was outside bounds of array
Like i said It works fine for all values in the first column, accually the second (Numbered 1). If i enter a value in the partsnumBox and it is found in the the 2nd 3rd and 4th columns I want the value in the first column (0) of the same row.
Private Sub FindButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles FindButton.Click 'Define Array Dim PartsArray(,) As String = {{"PR214", "MR43T", "RBL8", "14K22"}, {"PR223", "R43", "RJ6", "14K24"},
complete coding newbie, but I'm trying to make a program that displays how many people are in a telephone queue by reading from a log file. and havign a timer update the number every 3rd second.
search.png What do i need to put in the search button so the words that i will put in the textboxes on the rightside will show the results on the left? the table name is Customers..i dont know how to put them in textboxes..
I have a textbox with a large amount of data, but I am trying to extract only the following into an array: only 3 or 4 letter, uppercase words. The goal is to find all stock symbols within a document.
For example, in this post, if I were to type "MSFT", regex would extract MSFT because it is a 4 letter, uppercase word.
I have an array of words that must be sorted alpabetically using selection sort, I must then be able to search the array with a binary search. I just can't get my head around how you would go about doing it. I know that the words must be first sorted into alphabetical order. Here is the code for selection sort with numbers:
Dim pass As Integer Dim count As Integer Dim minmax As Integer Dim temp As Integer
i want to search "words with mark" in txt file. For example: i want to search: "tm" in my txt file. but my code couldn't find that word, it could find a word "tam".[code]
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Btn5vowel.Click Dim rand As New Random Dim alphabet As String Dim i As Integer For i = 1 To 200 alphabet = ChrW(rand.Next("A"),to ("z")
It is giving me that the expression must be expected. I have to choose and display the fifth vowel from the list of 200 random words.
I'm programming a game of blackjack, it's working pretty fine but i still can get for example two ace of spades. I was thinking to put every card that is used in an array and when you deal another card you check your array first. if the card is already in the array you go back to generate another card if not its put into the array and you continue.
How can I perform a very fast search in an array, that finds a substring of an entry in the array? As an example, let's say that I have an array containing these objects (as strings):
[Code]...
What I then want to do, is to find any matches matching (as an example) the letter "S". I want it to display all the entries with the letter "S" in it. I don't want to use loops of any kind, and I prefer using things such as the array's inbuilt BinarySearch function. However, it seems like the BinarySearch function only compares from the beginning of each item. I'm using very large arrays. So a fast method is really needed.
It works fine, i click button and the gridview shows all the right records. The problem is when i use more then 1 word in textbox. it shows nothing. The record in the database field may have several words, so i need to search using all words in textbox.
so, i want to find all text that is located in code between "serviceid=" and "&" (example how it would look in html source/in string: serviceid=TC27072318654272127623234&)
so the result would be only text in that format (starting with TC and 23 numbers following it)
I'm making a card game and the first thing I'm doing for it is generating a random card. I used an array for the cards (can't think of a better way to assign a picturebox to a card picture other then a huge select case block). I'm trying to split the 2D array into two parts but it doesn't work.
My current
vb Public Class frmMain Private Function Flop() 'First three common cards to be displayed.

I looked around online and I don't think a list will work for my 2-dimensional array.
I want to get a string from the richtextbox but here how it goes in programming for example i want to get all class/function and variable names in this given code.
Quote:
Private Function Processstring(ByVal strin As String) As String Dim astrWords As String() = New String() {"parrot"} Dim strOut As String = strin Dim strWord As String
[code]....
how would i get the "processstring" by getting it after the word function?
I need to search for a string in a text file. This string can change so I think I need to set a before and after string with the result being whatever is between. I've started by scrapeing the info from a Printers HTML page.
i have a string array that i want to output to a text file. the array size is 10000. i fill the array starting from 0 with some strings. at the end, i only want to show the array from index 256 to the last array that is not empty (for eg. if the array is filled with data from 0 to 2000, i only want the text file to show the data from 256 to 2000 and ignore the remaining strings). Is there any function to do this?t i use is shown below
Dim myArray(10000) as string Dim strArray As New System.IO.StreamWriter("c:List.txt") strArray.WriteLine("{0,10}{1,30}", "Index", "Symbol")
How would you select a random word from an array list. Here is my coding:
'Create a sub which reads the words from the file and selects a random word. Sub ReadWordsFromFile(ByVal fileName As String, ByRef RandomWord As String) 'Create a random number generator. Dim RandomNumber As New Random Dim words As New ArrayList
I've got a form which loads all the files from a selected directory into a list box, a user then enters a string into a textbox and then loops though all items in my listbox, there is a match it adds it to another list box - this is a simple method of search for all documents. I can only seacrh for perfect matching strings right now.
