View 11 RepliesThis might seem like an odd question, but is there a way to make it so that any form that is created based on another, would have some comments in the code behind of the new form?
For example, i create a form called frmONE, and i put in code like this:
Overridable Sub frmONE_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'Make sure you call these functions, in this order:

View 3 Replieshow do I save settings of a form like its background color, fonstyle, sontsize etc. I cannot save them as string or text into my access database.
View 4 RepliesThis is a big idea and I'm unsure of how easy or difficult this really is. I do not know how I would get this even started. What I am trying to accomplish is "docking" so to speak, a sub form into the original. Basically, there are 2 forms open, but one is like a helper so to speak. This concept is not new as many programs use it. An example is a program widely used call Teamviewer. If you use Teamviewer, open the "Partner List" Pane at the bottom to see exactly what I am talking about. Basically, it opens a new form that is next to it.

When I use
Me.Close()
Form1.Show()
It closes the whole app.
How would I change it so that it only closes the current form while opening a new one? EDIT: I put [Not Resolved] Because I accidently pressed the resolved thing

View 1 RepliesWhat is the correct way to handle saving user control settings on form close. I have a tabcontrol that a user can add tabpages during runtime. The user control has a few controls (listbox,combobox,textbox) How can I save the created tabpages and the data in each control in the usercontrol? Below is how I am calling my usercontrol
Code
Public Class TabPageEx
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.TabPage
[code]....
I seem to be a little lost as most documentation seems to suggest that I can not save usercontrol settings in the app.config. I have played around with the solution expl. settings tab without much success. But, then again I may be going about it all wrong. So, I am looking for a little direction on the best way to handle this on form close.
why I need to instantiate a form instead of form.show?

I have a dual monitor setup on my computer. My program has multiple forms. I've designed the program to check which monitor the main form is currently on and to open the secondary forms on the current monitor. When the main form is on the primary monitor the secondary forms open as FormWindowState.Normal which is the design-time setting for the secondary forms. If the main form is on the secondary monitor and I click to open a secondary form then the secondary form is to be displayed as FormWindowState.Maximised.

So I moved the Form.Show line to after the Form.WindowState line. This works fine when the Form.Show process is very quick. The problem is that one of the secondary forms downloads some information from the internet so it takes about a second to finish the Form_Load process. When I had Form.Show first the form would not appear on screen until the Form_Load process is complete, so the delay was in the form appearing at all which is how I prefer it. With Form.Show last the form appears on screen immediately but appears mostly blank and unresponsive until the Form_Load process completes.
I would prefer that the form not appear at all until the Form_Load process is complete but I would like it to appear in an already Maximised state. Is this achieveable? It doesn't seem that complicated but I just can't figure it out.
I am rewritting my application to conform to ms standards. We used to save all settings to registry for user settings, servername, size and locations.so we are now saving them into My.Settings app.config the only problem is that each time there is an update clickonce will isntall the newupdate but now all settings are loist and user has to save everything all over again..
I am trying to follow the book here but it seems i keep getting stuck somewhere. registry has worked fine for years but i understand we must move on, but if stuff like this happens then i just wasted a long time converting all code to conform for it to not work..
i want to resume layout of form . how can i do that. every i run program. the location of controls change i want to get original location of controls.

I have a form that I want to have a control box so you can close it at any time but I don't want it to be movable from its origainal position. It opens maximized and I want it to stay maximized. I've tried all the different FromBorderStyle options in properties and I've tried all the SizeGripStyle properties though I can't say I've tried all the combinations possible between those two but whatever I've tried I can always click on the border at the top and then the form breaks free from its starting position and when it does the vertical scroll bar disappears.
How can I have this form stay in place with the vertical scroll bar and the control box and not break free from its starting position if someone clicks on the border at the top? If I try FromBorderStyle None then I don't have control box to close it. I was looking at the form events list and I noticed when I break the form free by clicking on the border that that is a ClientSizeChanged event.
I have created a settings-file for my plug-in-based app. When the mainApp writes the settings to the file, the pluginApp should read the settings from the settings-file (when opening or at runtime even better), but somehow it reads the settings from the app.config-file. This means that the pluginApp never will read the settings according the values of the file.

View 6 RepliesMy mate & Myself are currently building a IRC Client, a problem we have come across is when opening a chatroom the form Freezes for example.
We are currently using arrays so we can open multiple chat rooms and at this current time to open a chat room we use
Channels(ChatIndex).Show()
The form opens but freezes.
I have also tried using
Channels(ChatIndex).ShowDialog()
Application.DoEvents()
Using the above code, the form does not freeze but appears we can not access any of the controls such as (RTB)
What would be causing the form to freeze on .show(), Has anyone else had any similar issues?
