I am using FileInfo to create a list of files in a directory. Is is possible to get video or image resolution as well using FileInfo. If not, what is the best way to pull that info down so I can include it in my csv file.

OK I am working on a windows service that monitors specific directories and checks to see if a file is changed. If a file is changed, it is attached to an email and sent to an admin.
The way I solve the problem...
I create a FileInfo object to do the following:
-I check to see if the file has an extension that is allowed to be attached
-I check to see if the file is under a max size to be attached
I create an Attachment object to do the following:
-attach the file to an email
I then send the email. The problem with this is when I edit the file after it is successfully attached the first time, I CANNOT save changes to that file. I get an error message saying that it is being used and cannot change it. My solution to this problem is to call the "dispose()" method of the attachment class. When i do this, I can edit the file all I want to and the first attachment works but after that the "dispose()" method always throws an exception and the file is never attached to the email when the file is edited again. Why is this happening?

Is there anyway to do this easy or do I have to hard code it on two different and change it by like a button etc? I am working with a 1024 X 780 and a 1240 X 1024.
View 8 RepliesI have a very high screen resolution on my laptop: 1400x1050.My colleague tried it out on his laptop (which had lesser resolution), and the application did not fit on his laptop. The buttons were dragging out of the screen space.So, I want my application to automatically resize/adjust based upon the screen resolution.I don't want to use Maximized screen option and don't want to change user's pc settings.Unfortunatly I am not using Table Layout panel.

I have a utility that is a simple exe that is not installed compiled with VS2005 and works well. But when I upgraded to VS2008 the utility can no longer locate files in the active system folder. I have UAC turned off and am logged in as the Administrator and it still can not locate a file that I can see in Windows Explorer. The file I am looking for is PakMgr.exe.

View 9 RepliesI have a vb.net project which i have inserted pictures and video. I inserted a video clip using the Windows Media Player control and it does work. The issue i have is that i can't move the program to another computer because the pathname for the video will be wrong. I know i could change the pathname when i move it but this is not practical because i need to present this program. Does anybody know how to make the video accessible no matter what location the program is at?
View 6 RepliesI am monitoring 12 video feeds from video cameras. Now I have more than 12 cameras, I have 134. But I will only monitor 12 cameras at a time. By Monitoring I mean, I have 12 small video screens on the form that I can see the video. The way I know which cameras are active, so I can monitor them is by a boolean value in a sql database. I run a Store Procedure in my program, and spit out the results in a XML file. I then read the XML file in a loop. This XML file will have a list of the camera names I need to monitor.
So that is for 12 video feeds. Now, I want to have a NEXT or FORWARD button on my monitor form. So when I click this it will give me the next group of cameras, 13 to 24. Now if I only have15 cameras that are active, that means the first group is 1 to 12, then the second group is 13 to 15 cameras. So I will only have 3 to monitor on the second grouping. One thought I had was to have another field in my table to mark as already as an active monitor, so when I run the SP, i will not select that row. But I need to select 12 at a time. Or I can make a number of xml files, one xml file for each grouping of 12, but I need to figure out how I can select the next group without re-selecting the first group. I have no code at the moment, I'm on my non-programming computer.

View 1 RepliesI'm setting form sizes according to user screen resolution and I think I need design no smaller than 1024 x 768 these days. Using the following code I set my first form and use Anchor settings to resize and maintain controls. Does resize affect StartupPosition in other forms and what do you think is the best StartupPosition to Show the next (smaller) forms? I have a feeling I should have created child forms but simply added forms to the project as I needed them. For example, the first code example does not take account of the WIN7 Task Bar.

All tutorials I read before used Extension property to get the extension of a file. How can I get the type of file as a phrase? Example: .vb is 'Visual Basic Source File'. Like what Windows does in the Properties window of a file.
