VS 2008 Address An Out Of Bound Index Error?

Dec 21, 2009

I am experiencing a perplexing error ("Index was outside the bounds of array") that did not surface a few days ago WITH THE CODE UNCHANGED.

I was even able to successfully create an executable file a few days ago. It was therefore a shock to be given this error when testing it today.

The snippet is shown below:

Dim GearArray(lines.GetUpperBound(0), 8) As String For x As Integer = 1 To lines.GetUpperBound(0)
Dim parts() As String = lines(x).Split(",")

Error The Type For Variable 'Index' Will Not Be Inferred Because It Is Bound To A Field In An Enclosing Scope

Apr 19, 2009

I have some code and there are 2 errors which I don't understand I have tried all sorts...

1)The type for variable 'Index' will not be inferred because it is bound to a field in an enclosing scope. Either change the name of 'Index', of use the fully qualified name (for example, 'Me.Index' or 'MyBase.Index').

2)Function 'GetNewPhrase' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used.

I can't get it to work..

I am writing a simple Address Book Application using Typed Dataset & Bound Controls. 1st Form for Entering Addresses 2nd Form for Adding New 'CITY'. To select a city for address I am using a data bound combo box which shows a list of Cities.

While entering with a address if user found the required City Name is not found in the Combo list, he opens a 2nd Form to Add a City name to database & returns to Form1.

Here the expected newly added city doesn't appear in the combo list, so I tried to Refill the underlying table with following code

Index Incorrect When Adding Records To Bound Table

Jul 15, 2011

I'm, using a SQL Server table in a DataGridView and I'm having trouble adding records. I'm new to vb.net but used vb6 for a lot of years so the transition is a little difficult. For now I'm just trying to add a record using a button click but the record key which is setup as integer and to automatically increment by 1 shows as -1 after the record is created. While the data does show in the grid it is never actually posted in the table. Once created I want to select the record just entered.

Here's what I have:

' Declare
Private addedRowIndex As Integer

Code:

Dim newMessagesRow As ArcadeDataSet.messagesRow
newMessagesRow = ArcadeDataSet.messages.NewmessagesRow
newMessagesRow.movie_title = "Added Programmatically"

Address An Array Of Strings By Its Index?

Jul 31, 2011

i have an array of 30 strings , the names of the commands send to the serial port, the serial port adresses 16 devices. each device has its own set of commands.

of course i could make subarrays for each device, but for the saving of memory it would be better to use a integer index to name the commands, so like command 0 to 30.

dim command(29) as array of strings.
dim device(7) as array of devices.

VS 2008 : Use The DHCP API To Retrieve A Computer's MAC Address When Given The IP Address?

VS 2008 - Array - Error Report Shows An Event Type Of Clr203r And An Index Out Of Range Exception

Aug 12, 2011

I have one user that is having a problem with my application, the error report shows an event type of clr203r and an index out of range exception. From what I've read this seems to have "something" to do with arrays or lists. (What that something is, so far, is beyond me or anything I've researched). I do have one array in my program -- myarray(13) as byte and I do have the syntax right as far as noting 20 elements in it. in my other bits of code.

I'm reading those bytes in the serial port, deciphering them and performing some actions. (to be vague). But just with what I've said, can anyone point me to a possible problem? Is the index out of range exception ALWAYS concerned with just arrays or lists? Or could it be something else?

[2008] Mixing BOUND Controls With Non-BOUND Controls?

Jan 26, 2009

We are binding most of our text boxes and dropdown boxes to a BINDING NAVIGATOR (with a DATA SOURCE of a DATA TABLE).When the BN is clicked through the text boxes all change immediately. We need to use some non-bound controls as well.First one is 4 radio buttons that when clicked will change a single value in a DATA TABLE.What would be the best method to do this? Should I track when the CURRENTCHANGED event occurs on the BINDING NAVIGATOR.I'm thinking that I could trick this by BINDING the SINGLE FIELD to a HIDDEN TEXTBOX and when that textbox CHANGED event occurs mess with the radio buttons and visa-versa.
