VS 2008 - Application That Uses An Access Database To Fill Datasets

May 13, 2010

I have an application that uses an access database to fill datasets. My problem is that I have three related tables, when I add a new users to the customers table The parts table fills with data saved in the database with a cust_id of -1.

I discovered that this is caused by adding a part, not saving it and deleting the customer. I Can add code to stop the user from deleting a customer that has parts but I do not have access to the live database to delete the record that are incorrect.

Is there something I can do to delete the rows that have an id of -1 on the load statment?

Adding A Record To An Access Database Using Datasets And Da.update

Jun 2, 2011

I've been having a problem adding a record to an Access database using datasets and da.update etc. I'm trying to create a simple program that displays the records of a database table in a series of text boxes. I've managed to get my next and previous buttons working correctly and my update button works correctly too. The problem occurs when I try to add a new record. I keep getting a "Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement" whenever I click my add button.

Fill DataSets Dynamically?

Jul 11, 2009

I'm not sure, if this is possible, but what I would like to do is fill a DataTable with results from "SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM myDB.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES" and then fill individual data sets in a For Each loop. I'm able to fill a data table with the table names I want to populate, and I can update my SQL Command of the SqlDataAdapter, but when I try to fill the data set by using the results from the row, I run into an error that I can not convert a string to a DataTable or DataSet. Each DataSet is named just like the table name. The code is at home, so I can't paste all of it here, but hopefully, you understand, what I mean. A small amount of the code that I remember is below, and this is inside a Using block connecting to a SQL Server.For Each row as DataRow in dt.rows

tsql = new SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM myDB.." + row("TABLE_NAME"), mycon)
oleda.SelectCommand = tsql
oleda.Fill(row("TABLE_NAME"))

DB/Reporting :: Fill Access Database Table From Dataset?

Jun 5, 2011

I have 2 databases that I am working with. One is a compant customer database and the other is my personal call log. Now I am creating a front end for the Call Log. I was updating my customer list by Importing 2 tables from the customer database, a series of queries would erase all of my info, take all the data from the imported tables and move it into mine then erase the imported tables.

Im trying to accomplish the same in my VB frontend. I can connect and fill datasets from the customer database. I can erase my tables. How do I take all of this data from the newly created dataset and move it over to my empty tables?

Project Using VB And A Database In Access - Check If My Application Requires Access To Be Installed Or Not?

Feb 16, 2012

I'm using VS 2010, and I did a project using VB and a database in Access. The problem is that when I try to put that "application" on other computers, sometimes, is not working. I thought it can be because on these computers they don't have access, but on one computer, is running another app which is using Access and there is no Access installed. How can I check if my application requires Access to be installed or not?

Here is a example of how I did the connection:

Public AccessOLEDBConnString= "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & myfullpath & ";Jet OLEDB:Database Password=password"

Function getConnection() As OleDb.OleDbConnection

[CODE]...

And when I want to have access at the data I'm doing like this:

dim conn as Oledb.OledbConnection

dim sql as string

dim ds as Dataset

VB 2010 And Access (Multiple Datasets And Adapters)

Nov 24, 2010

Im currently making a program. It loads data from database fields into an combo box. Everything works so far, It just seems to be a mess. Do i need to have all the datasets and data adapters? or can i get away with just using 1 of each. It seems like im doing it wrong, and although it works it seems like a difficult and messy way of doing it.

Also i would like to assign the firshermenID to a variable depending on the fisherman name that is selected in the combo box. When button is pressed: id = fishermanID of the current fisherman (cmbFisherman.text)

Use Datasets In A VB Console Application?

Feb 17, 2010

This is my first attempt at writing a console App that accesses data on my SQL server. The application is a simple process that would run each night to do some database cleanup.

Up to now all my dataset access has been through windows forms, and its really easy to bind the dataset to the code, by simply binding a dataset column to a field on the form.... BUT there is no form in the console APP!.

I know I can code tedious lines of code to define the dataset, and the SQL etc etc, but there has to a simple method like there is for forms.

Database Logic - Differences Between Datasets And Datatables ?

Jan 12, 2009

My understanding of databases (access and sql) is fairly limited, though i have got a couple of programs under my belt using access databases, not yet used SQL. I could however, work around to figure out a way to do what i'm trying. What i don't understand is the need for all of the components, so all i'm after is somebody who can take the time to fully explain these further to me, or point me in the direction of somewhere i can gather a full understanding.

My questions are, for now;

1. Why do we need to take a copy of the database, rather than dealing exactly with the database itself?

2. What differences are there between datasets and datatables, what is better for what and why?

3. What is the purpose of the data adapter?
