How do you call the text that appears when holding cursor on a control as an explanation and how to implement it??? It has to be easy but I don't know how to do it For example Microsoft application functions all have it?
View 3 RepliesI want to create a custom control that has a cursor like a regular text box, I tried using a line and a timer that makes the line 'Blink', but that wasn't too reliable because I had to change the location and background in the timer... I guess I could do it, but I wanted to ask my question here.
Basically what I am doing is creating a custom control to allow inputs as in fractions, sub/superscripts, etc.... The TextBox Control doesn't support text in that many locations.
Color custom cursor appears to be black when I run the program. The color custom cursor is imported from desktop by using Resources in vb.net. When I run the program the cursor turns out to be black. HOW DO I FIX IT?

View 4 RepliesI have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.
I have a user control, and want to be able to update its cursor while it is disabled. For example, say that I have a user control whose cursor is Default. I can enter the number in a 15 character string such as 12345678...... and it works just fine. The parcel number in real life contains dashes to make it easier to read, decipher, etc. so it looks like 12-3-45-67....... Under the textchanged subroutine for the textbox I have a case statement set up that checks the length of the parcel number as it is entered and inserts the dash accordingly.

I have a datagridview which is populated with information from a database. I would like it so that when I click on one of the items in the table, the information appears in the text box, or other suitable tool.
The VB output is an EPG (electronic program guide), that has a list of programs and the channels/time etc. So when you click on the program such as 'The News,' the data from the database such as 'Description' will appear in the textbox.
I want to run a series of .BAT files - but only have ONE RUNNING at a time. If I have two or three .BAT files I want them queued up so that only one runs - then the next - and so on. I could do this with other O/S task management tools. I was going to code my own methods - seeing if a .BAT was running - holding the others - etc. But the handshaking on this operation could be painful to test... I was hoping the SCHTASKS tool in windows would be my answer - but I'm not seeing options to do this.

This datatype is permanent and due to business rule is not allowed to be changed.[code]Notice, there are spaces and carriage returns.When pulling these data out of the xml file, in the immediate window, I can see " attached to the text where there should be a return.The sql does not take care of these returns, so that when I show these values on the UI, I do not see the carriage returns.How do I see the text on the UI as it exacly appears in the xml file ?

For example:
You have a button control on your form. Instead of having the Button1_click event
You have a Control_click event. And that Control_Click event will be used for each control on the form.

However when the sheet is opened the cell contains the formula as text instead of the sumation value. I tired several ways but here are a few different meathods that both end up with the same undesired result.

and adds it in an Array List. However, when I MessageBox.Show(thatString) it appears as '?????'.

I have a form with many, many buttons but lets say ten, and I have named them one, two, three all the way up to ten. When I move the mouse over one of them, I want the name of it to appear on a label. When I move away the label should be empty. So when I point (not click) on "Three" that's what the label should say, and if I move on to the next button the label should read "Four"... I'm sure you get my point.
As you can see, what I really want is to get the name of the button under the cursor and store that name as a string, and then use that string to make things happen. With only ten buttons I can easily write ten MouseHover events, and ten MouseLeave events, one for each button, but that defeats the purpose of my question. I want to be able to write only one Hover and one Leave event and the use it for how many buttons I choose to use in my application.

I capture the last active control when pause is clicked, change the Backcolor to let the user know where they were, from blue to red and leave the cursor there. What I would like to do without disabling and enabling all the controls on the form is to keep the cursor in the LastActiveControl no matter what until the continue button is clicked. In other words, tab, enter key, mouse click or nothing will make the cursor move until continue is clicked. Sound possible?

The background: I implemented drag'n'drop from a dgv to a label and need to identify the control where the mouse button is released. I have enabled dropping on the label where the drop is going to take place. However, this label is the parent of say a hundred labels that are created dynamically in codebehind (I use this way to create a "dataview"). Therefore, I need to know which of these "child" labels the user drops the data onto.
I can get the mouseposition without problems (Me.PointToClient(Cursor.Position).ToString), but as I said, I can't get the name/text/ID of the control the user dropped the data on. Also, I ned to get the child control's name/ID/Text, not the parent label of course.In addition, it seems as if I can't select the row I click on in the dgv anymore, after I implemented the DoDragDrop on the CellMouseDown event. Any ideas? Should I use another event?
I have a regular application form with a WebBrowser control.I have strung together a .htm file (from a regular text file) which I then assign to the WebBrowser control. In the html file, I have filenames mentioned.I am trying to string together the html in such a way as to give a clickable link or button that will parse into html and open the corresponding file in another WebBrowser control in VB.I have tried using VBScript and JavaScript to put a button in the html.As long as the function or sub I call is also in the same html document, it works, but I really need to transfer the control back into visual basic where I can do the heavy lifting I need to.can I just not do this as a regular VB application? Any way to do it without adding the complication of requiring ActiveX?
