How To See Text On UI As It Exacly Appears In Xml File
Jan 14, 2009
I am passing the data of an element inside an xml file into a sql server table with field varchar(max). This datatype is permanent and due to business rule is not allowed to be changed.[code]Notice, there are spaces and carriage returns. When pulling these data out of the xml file, in the immediate window, I can see " attached to the text where there should be a return. The sql does not take care of these returns, so that when I show these values on the UI, I do not see the carriage returns. How do I see the text on the UI as it exacly appears in the xml file ?
I have a datagridview which is populated with information from a database. I would like it so that when I click on one of the items in the table, the information appears in the text box, or other suitable tool.
The VB output is an EPG (electronic program guide), that has a list of programs and the channels/time etc. So when you click on the program such as 'The News,' the data from the database such as 'Description' will appear in the textbox.
I have a string which consists of the raw HTML of a webpage. I would like to search for the first use of /imgres?imgurl= within the string and display the url of an image which follows exactly after it in a text box. Below is an example of part of the string: [URL]..In this case it would find /imgres?imgurl= then it would display [URL]...
I need a code for the open file dialog that if a file is not supported then a message box appears stating the error. This is my open file dialog code. [code] The message box pops up like it is suppose to, when you click ok the open file comes back up like it is suppose to. When you put in the correct file the message box comes back up again. Also the message pops up even if the correct file is put in the open file. but if you close the file dialog the image is where it is suppose to be.I believe the code for the public sub wrongfile is what is the problem. can some one look it over and let me know what changes are needed.
this is my first post in this forum! I guess my question is very simple. I just started with VB.net yesterday I want to search through a text string, and then count how many times a word appears. How do i do this? Is there some sort of function that i can use together with a loop of a kind?Something like the inStr(), just something i can use with mulitble appearences!
I'm inserting data into excel sheets and after i fill each sheet I want to sum a column so select the data and add a formula to a cell. However when the sheet is opened the cell contains the formula as text instead of the sumation value. I tired several ways but here are a few different meathods that both end up with the same undesired result.
I've written a Windows application which reads the title of a Window (which is in Greek) and adds it in an Array List. However, when I MessageBox.Show(thatString) it appears as '?????'.
How do you call the text that appears when holding cursor on a control as an explanation and how to implement it??? It has to be easy but I don't know how to do it For example Microsoft application functions all have it?
I have a number of files that are generated in a function defined as:[code]These files are immediately printed and the files are automatically saved to a directory; the files themselves are not for use by the actual software users. I timestamp the files to keep them uniquely identified for auditing purposes.I've now received a requirement to email some of these files externally to the company, and someone has complained that the current filenames are not user-friendly.So, I tried copying the generated file to a temp directory, with a friendlier name, emailing the friendlier file, then deleting it, leaving my audit trail intact, like so: [code]This throws a System.IO.IOException on the line System. IO.File. Delete (friendly FilePath) because the file is still in use, after it has been emailed.I've taken out the email code, which makes the copying and deleting work fine, so it's apparently attaching the file to the email which causes the problem.I've also tried breakpointing before the delete line, waiting five minutes, confirming the email has been sent, then advancing the code, but the same exception is still thrown.
I have a open and file save dialog which I use to open and save file. There are also some labels in the application. During the time a file is open or saved, the file open /save dialog becomes blurred by the background labels. Is there any way to prevent this? The attached pic is given as an example to explain the dilemma.
I have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.
I have one combobox, two buttons (Add and View) and listbox. When I click button Add text from combobox is added to text file. This is code for Add button:
I have made an app and I want to add it to " open with menu" sub menu which appears when user make right click on any file ie I made photo viewer app and I want to add it to "open with menu" so user when make right click on any photo and go to "open with menu" sub menu will find my app name to chose it to open the photo with it
i want to take a comma delimited text file and then select all unique records based on one of the fields in the text file. should i read the text file into a data table or just use a data reader?
Hi, i'm trying to use the treeview to display the text of a rtf (rich text file) file when an specific node if clicked.HomeOMGWOOTFor example, if i pick OMG, i want the text of lol.rtf to be displayed on a richtextbox. But somehow i just can't manage to get it... I know to import the text of a .txt file to a textbox, but using the treeview makes it more complicated. This is the code im using right now:
Private Sub TreeView1_NodeMouseClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.TreeNodeMouseClickEventArgs) Handles TreeView1.NodeMouseClick Select Case e.Node.Index Case 0
[code]....
Another thing is, that i can't import the *.rtf text into a richtextbox and i don't know why.
So I'm in the final stages of finishing a program I've been working on for nearly a year now, and this is basically my final hurdle. The Save dialogue is working beautifully, with 'flags' in order to switch it over from the regular input into text boxes to the Listbox input protocol.
However, I'm having a *** of a time getting it to take lines from the text file and put them in the proper text box. Here is an example file:
Quote:
SHOWNAME CALLNAME BREED
[Code]....
So with the sample file I provided above, in the textbox named callNameText would appear "SHOWNAME", and so on and so forth. With this build, I get a NullReferenceException on the "Me.Controls(strboxNames(i)).Text() = strAllText(ati)" line.

I can't seem to get my 'Save' feature to work properly. It lets me choose save and lets me choose my desired save name but when i click on 'Save', a dialog box appears saying
"problemIllegal characters in path."
I'm not sure if it's code that i'm missing or code that shouldn't be there.
I have been searching the internet and this forum for the answer to my problem, but so far nothing is working. I want a label to appear 10 seconds after the form loads. This is one of the codes that I have tried so far [code] it doesn't work. Like this the label is visible when the form loads and then disappears, but if I switch the Label2.Visible = True & False the code doesn't work at all. It also doesn't do anything if I change the = to a less than sign.
I am currently trying to sort on a GridView after it has been populated with records from a SQL Server Express database. I click on a column to sort it and I get the following error: "DataTable must be set prior to using DataView." The entirety of my code is as follows: <script runat="server" >
I'm a normal user of to Visual Studio 2008 and very experienced with VS 2005. On 2008 when after I enter the parenthesis after the object method name I see an intellisense prompt with the parameter name defined on the method along with a := sign. What does := means and why does it show up? anyway it helps me a lot sometimes if I use same variable names on different service tiers. What does := means?
I have never faced this problem before, I'm working on a MDI project and I have a form with a DataGridView that uses the event CellFormatting to format the cell content, if a click on a button in the form or inside the datagridview itself to show a Msgboxit appears behind the MDI form, you must realize how frustrating should be for the user that the program does not respond because the Msgbox is behind and they don't know it.
I having a problem in my website where I have 2 objects held in session, both object are structured differently and do not have any links to each other (not intentionally). Both objects however, have a collection of "Travellers". What I am trying to do is modify one collection by adding or removing "Travellers", when a finish button is clicked, the modified collection will then be saved to the other object. The problem is that for some reason when I modify one collection in one object, the modifications are also made to the collection in the other object.[code]The issue is the Travellers collection within the object "BookingContext" is being updated when I add and remove from the collection within "PersonSearchContext". It's as though there is some sort of link or pointer between them.
Ok so I have a combo box that lists a set of names. What I want to do is match a selected name to a text file and read from it. The text file contains the same name and has grades listed below:
I want to create a text file or see if a text file exists when application starts. The problem I was having was after creating the text file, I tried to write to text file and got an error saying that another process was using it.
Dim test As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyDocuments & " est1.txt" If System.IO.File.Exists(test) Then MsgBox("File Loaded") Else
[code]....
I looked up topics on filestream, but am unsure if this is how to use it. Is my code ok? Is there another way to create a text file?
I save data from datagridview to text file. I also load the same data from text file into datagridview for edit and update the same thing to text file. Let say this text file i called as Drill.txt. I have another text file called header.txt which need to match its value with the value of Drill.txt file then overwrite value from Drill.txt to header.txt. Now i want to make my Drill.txt in encrypted format to prevent anyone to open that file and modify out of program. They only can modify it through the program
i have 5 textboxes in a form. I have a streamwriter that writes all of their text to on text file like this:
Code: Dim xfile As String = Application.StartupPath & "/Set.txt" If File.Exists(xfile) = True Then Dim writex As StreamWriter = New StreamWriter(xfile)
[code]....
I was wondering how to get the text under the each number and place it in the corresponding textbox.
