Updating 1object Appears To Also Update Another

I having a problem in my website where I have 2 objects held in session, both object are structured differently and do not have any links to each other (not intentionally). Both objects however, have a collection of "Travellers". What I am trying to do is modify one collection by adding or removing "Travellers", when a finish button is clicked, the modified collection will then be saved to the other object.The problem is that for some reason when I modify one collection in one object, the modifications are also made to the collection in the other object.[code]The issue is the Travellers collection within the object "BookingContext" is being updated when I add and remove from the collection within "PersonSearchContext". It's as though there is some sort of link or pointer between them.

I have an issue with a data base updating it won't update for me in debgging mode it is stopping here on this bit of code which is highlighted in red. the error which comes up is .(update requires a valid update command when passed datarow collection with modified rows.)

On a form i have several text boxes binded to a bindingsource and including a datagridviewI have populated the textboxes with database fields successfully and the datagridview displays the correct information.I have the following code to save the information to the database but i cannot get it to work. I currently have a problem attepting to update a record within my database. I have a webpage that displays in text boxes a users details, these details are taken from the session upon login. The aim is to update the details when the user overwrites the current text in the text boxes.I have a function that runs when the user clicks the 'Save Details' button and it appears to work, as i have tested for number of rows affected and it outputs 1. However,when checking the database, the record has not been updated and I am unsure as to why.I've have checked the SQL statement that is being processed by displaying it as a label and it looks as so:

I have an application to re-sequence some items based on a an alphabetical ordering of the items from another table. I couldn't create an update statement to update the database when I pulled the information by a join query, So I pulled down both tables into a dataset with an XML Schema description where the two are related by the itm_id key as in the database. I then have two datagrids one with the items and one with the bound to the relationship this allows only the records associated with the itm to be displayed in the datagrid, I then run a loop that changes to sequence number for each corresponding record,this all works fine but then I go to update the back end database.
The update from the dataadapter executes successfully, but then if I reload the dataset from the database back end I find that the update did not actually update the records on the back end. The only record that was updated was the very first record which updated with a 0 then all the others did not take, I have re-run it several times and they will not take.

I am using VB 2008 Express, connected to a MS Access database for some reason my update command is not updating my database.i may have something wrong [code]whats wierd is when i change UpdateCommand to SelectCommand, it will update the database, but it makes other things in my program malfuncation, so i cant have that as SelectCommand, there must be a way to have it all work with the Updatecommand ..

I have a vb.net project where I have data loaded into a datatable in a dataset and have to do approximately 20 updates that are sql like. On this project, I don't have access to sql nor does the end user want to use any type of sql, sql express etc.
My question is, is there a generic way of doing this so I can reuse it. Was wondering if a dataview could be analgous to the "WHERE CLAUSE" and some type of delegate function could be the update function.

I am working on trying to update a list of items to an Excel spreadsheet. I have created my own custom class called Songs and a List(Of Songs) that I want to update the spreadsheet with. It seems like everything is working -- I have even put in a debug msgbox that displays what Song it is currently on while iterating thru the loop -- but after the code iscomplete, I check the spreadsheet and only the first song in the list gets updated. I'm thinking it must have something to do with either the connection string or the parameters that prevents it from updating any other song records. BTW, there is no errors being tossed so it ats like it everything is being processed, just that the data doesn't change for the update inside the loop. Here is the section of

I am working on a program using VB.Net 2010 which will enable me to setup groups of files & folders for back up with syncing capabilities etc. I have a concept program which is based on some sample code I found out in one of the VB.Net forums. I have modified it from a command line based program to a form based program. At the moment I consider this code to be a "concept" program which once I have the various copy/sync routines developed and debugged will be integrated in to another program I wrote for
creating "Back Up" groups to automate the process. There are some 3rd party programs that do similar things that I want to do such as Microsofts Sync Toy, but none of them offer the grouping and exclusions options that I am going to program in to this backup/sync program.
So here is my problem, I have the included code taking two folders, a source and a destination, and copying everything from the source to the destination. It will skip over any unchanged files/folders and will delete anything found in the destination folder that is not found in the source folder and it will update all files in the destination folder that have a newer version in the source folder. In other words it will mirror image the source to the destination but will be smart enough not to copy unchanged items from the source to the destination thereby saving a lot of time. The sync part of the program is working fine, the displaying of the progress and results is not.

I have a webpage with a form that is used to edit some object. This object contains a Collection of other objects defined like this: Public Overridable Property Employees As List(Of Employee)
On a form I can delete an employee, add a new one or modify existing one. When I click save new values are sent to the server. On a server I check if the user exists. If exists then I modify its values, if it does not exist then I add it. All employees that exist on the server and were not sent are marked as deleted (State changed to EntityState.Deleted). I try to use the following code (dbCollection = database entities, newCollection = collection sent from the form):

This code does not work, because changing to EntityState.Deleted removes the object from collection, and for each loop breaks, since the collection is modified...I know that I can overcome this problem by using a for loop or adding objects to delete to some other list first, but I hope maybe there is a pattern that would make my code nicer.

I can't seem to get my 'Save' feature to work properly. It lets me choose save and lets me choose my desired save name but when i click on 'Save', a dialog box appears saying
"problemIllegal characters in path."
I'm not sure if it's code that i'm missing or code that shouldn't be there.

I have been searching the internet and this forum for the answer to my problem, but so far nothing is working. I want a label to appear 10 seconds after the form loads. This is one of the codes that I have tried so far [code] it doesn't work. Like this the label is visible when the form loads and then disappears, but if I switch the Label2.Visible = True & False the code doesn't work at all. It also doesn't do anything if I change the = to a less than sign.

I am passing the data of an element inside an xml file into a sql server table with field varchar(max). This datatype is permanent and due to business rule is not allowed to be changed.[code]Notice, there are spaces and carriage returns.When pulling these data out of the xml file, in the immediate window, I can see " attached to the text where there should be a return.The sql does not take care of these returns, so that when I show these values on the UI, I do not see the carriage returns.How do I see the text on the UI as it exacly appears in the xml file ?

On 2008 when after I enter the parenthesis after the object method name I see an intellisense prompt with the parameter name defined on the method along with a := sign. I have never faced this problem before, I'm working on a MDI project and I have a form with a DataGridView that uses the event CellFormatting to format the cell content, if a click on a button in the form or inside the datagridview itself to show a Msgboxit appears behind the MDI form, you must realize how frustrating should be for the user that the program does not respond because the Msgbox is behind and they don't know it.

I am trying to automate with Coded UI . Now it runs fine but when an abrupt modal window / exception window appears , it halts and tries to act on it but this was not part of recording. I want to track when this modal window appears and then kill the AUT [ application that is being automated upon ].This will at-least prevent users from watching screen w/o any progress.

I know it sounds strange but let me it explain. It has a purpose, but really all I'm looking for is the item with the most duplicates.I know it's possible and I've had a few ideas already, though none were successful or practical.What I'm doing here that requires this is creating an intuitive search for clients in a database. You type in a single field and click search. Behind scenes each keyword broken down from the single input field is searched through the table of clients, hitting each column and returning matches. the results are large in numbers, but truly it's the client that appears the same number of times as there are keywords.

I tried to build my project but it failed and said the exe was already in use by another process. So I looked in the Task Manager and saw several instances of this exe and several instances of another exe that I wrote. Why wouldn't the processes be stopped after I close the programs I wrote. Is there something I can do so that the processes end after I close the program?

In my DataGridView, there is a column for names of machines in the database and I want to count how many machines of each time I have. I have set aside 1 text box with 1 label for each time of machine and in the text box, I want to display how many machines of that type are in the DataGridView?For example, I have 50 records and 30 of those records use machine "80ER" while 12 use "90E" and 8 of them are "PM100". I'd like the 80ER text box to show 30, 90E text box to show 12, and PM100 text box to show 8.
