I am using VB 2008 Express, connected to a MS Access database for some reason my update command is not updating my database.i may have something wrong [code]whats wierd is when i change UpdateCommand to SelectCommand, it will update the database, but it makes other things in my program malfuncation, so i cant have that as SelectCommand, there must be a way to have it all work with the Updatecommand ..

I have a webpage that displays in text boxes a users details, these details are taken from the session upon login. The aim is to update the details when the user overwrites the current text in the text boxes.I have a function that runs when the user clicks the 'Save Details' button and it appears to work, as i have tested for number of rows affected and it outputs 1. I have a problem with the code below as a SQL command string. Note: Using .Net Framework 4.0 in Visual Studio 10 Professional. Database is a Microsoft Access file. The idea is that this SQL command string will update a password within my database. Also note that I have tried the string below with and without the ";" at the end and it does not work either way. The problem is most likely extremely obvious, but I can't seem to find it. I have commented below the code what each part of the String is.

It errors on the da.Update line and by the way if it helps, the text fields are a product of datarowview. that is when you select an item on the listbox the details of that appears on the text fields. and my goal is i could edit those text fields and save them.

View 4 RepliesI created a form which I communicate with a Programmable logic controller through the Com Port. I have successfully sent commands to it and it has responded with the correct response. For example if i send the command CR through the Com port It comes back CC.I have put a timer that checks the text box for the com port response The problem is that the check box ticks if CC is put in manually into the textbox but once it is sent from the com port it don't automatically do it when the textbox refreshs. How can I refresh the textbox so that it ticks the box after a automatic change of text. I have also tried the textchanged method.

View 1 RepliesI have an application to re-sequence some items based on a an alphabetical ordering of the items from another table. I couldn't create an update statement to update the database when I pulled the information by a join query, So I pulled down both tables into a dataset with an XML Schema description where the two are related by the itm_id key as in the database. I then have two datagrids one with the items and one with the bound to the relationship this allows only the records associated with the itm to be displayed in the datagrid, I then run a loop that changes to sequence number for each corresponding record,this all works fine but then I go to update the back end database.
The update from the dataadapter executes successfully, but then if I reload the dataset from the database back end I find that the update did not actually update the records on the back end. The only record that was updated was the very first record which updated with a 0 then all the others did not take, I have re-run it several times and they will not take.

I having a problem in my website where I have 2 objects held in session, both object are structured differently and do not have any links to each other (not intentionally). Both objects however, have a collection of "Travellers". What I am trying to do is modify one collection by adding or removing "Travellers", when a finish button is clicked, the modified collection will then be saved to the other object.The problem is that for some reason when I modify one collection in one object, the modifications are also made to the collection in the other object.[code]The issue is the Travellers collection within the object "BookingContext" is being updated when I add and remove from the collection within "PersonSearchContext". It's as though there is some sort of link or pointer between them.

My question is, is there a generic way of doing this so I can reuse it. Was wondering if a dataview could be analgous to the "WHERE CLAUSE" and some type of delegate function could be the update function.

View 2 RepliesI am working on trying to update a list of items to an Excel spreadsheet. I have created my own custom class called Songs and a List(Of Songs) that I want to update the spreadsheet with. It seems like everything is working -- I have even put in a debug msgbox that displays what Song it is currently on while iterating thru the loop -- but after the code iscomplete, I check the spreadsheet and only the first song in the list gets updated. I'm thinking it must have something to do with either the connection string or the parameters that prevents it from updating any other song records. BTW, there is no errors being tossed so it ats like it everything is being processed, just that the data doesn't change for the update inside the loop. Here is the section of
