Updating A Text Box After A Com Port Command?

Jan 7, 2011

I created a form which I communicate with a Programmable logic controller through the Com Port. I have successfully sent commands to it and it has responded with the correct response. For example if i send the command CR through the Com port It comes back CC.I have put a timer that checks the text box for the com port response The problem is that the check box ticks if CC is put in manually into the textbox but once it is sent from the com port it don't automatically do it when the textbox refreshs. How can I refresh the textbox so that it ticks the box after a automatic change of text. I have also tried the textchanged method.

Receiving Command Codes Via Serial Port?

Jul 14, 2010

I am currently writing a console code that I will eventually create with a GUI. The problem I am currently having is that when a message I received to the port is an ASCII command code i.e. <BEL> <CR> then rather than printing these messages
it performs the command and I am unable to respond as per when the command is received. Is there a way to alter the code so I can see these messages or at least determine its been sent so I can respond to it?

TCP Protocols - Sending Command To Specific Port On Same Computer

Mar 10, 2011

I am working on writing a program that needs to send a command to a specific port on the same computer, I have that working fine. There is another piece of software running that is listening to that port for some commands (read on).
Dim myTcpClient As New TcpClient
myTcpClient.Connect("127.0.0.1", 61225)
Dim networkStream As NetworkStream = myTcpClient.GetStream()

However when I try to send a command I get no response...
Dim outStream As Byte() = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("0x33")
networkStream.Write(outStream, 0, outStream.Length)
networkStream.Flush()

I have been given a list of protocols that I need to send to that port. What I have been told is that the size (in byes) is 1 and the value is "0x33" with no parameters. I am completely new to sockets and sending data through tcp.

How To Read Text From TCP Port

Apr 10, 2011

I have a device that is continuously sending text over a TCP port and I want to write a VB.net application that will read and evaluate this data. Being new to programming I am having trouble working out how to establish a connection to this TCP port and read the text using VB code. I am able to view this stream of data using telnet.

Most of the example code I have seen during my research seems to deal with two way communication but I think what I need is just one way (I don't need to send any commands to the device - just read what it is sending). I'm hoping some kind person can provide example code to get me started or point me in the right direction?

Updating A Text File?

May 29, 2010

I've got a program which acts as a schedule for sporting events. The program allows users to fill in event details and they get saved into a directory for the selected date and venue, and in it are text files with the details, and then on another page is a listbox containing all of these directories so that the user can view saved events, and the page retrieves the details from the text files and displays them how I wanted it to.BUT, my 'update' feature just will not work.

basically, I want the user to be able to change the details and press 'update' which will then write the new information to the relevant text files, BUT i get this error in debug mode:

The process cannot access the file 'C:Events PlannerSaturday, May 29, 2010 testvenue.txt' because it is being used by another process.

The code I'm using is below, and from what I've learned, and how I've already coded this program, it should work right?

Code:
Dim venueReaderUpdate As System.IO.StreamReader
venueReaderUpdate = _
My.Computer.FileSystem.OpenTextFileReader(ListBox1.SelectedItem + "venue.txt")

Apr 23, 2008

I'm trying to receive data from the serial port and display onto a text box in my gui in vb. I'm using xp pro sp2 and vb 2008 exp. What i've done so far:

- I'm able to send data successfully (tested) to the serial port
- I can dispaly what data is being sent (tested)

Steps taken:

- I have looked around on this forum for something similar to what I have but no similar posts are here
- Will look into MSDN help shortly
- Will also try some vb books I have lying around. But the problem is most of the vb books deal with sql server and database stuff and not really interfacing to hardware.

Mar 15, 2009

I am writing an app that reads from the com port, filters the data, then writes to the text box, then immediately starts over. This all takes place in an endless " do while" loop within the "start" button code. I also have a end button too which closes the com port and ends the program. Some other buttons are present also to change the filter settings.Problem is when I click start, data is logged, but none of the other buttons work. Also some of the text boxes are "see through" and dont look like thy have updated with the rest of the form.

Scroll The Textbox (txt_folderactivity) After Updating The Text Box?

Jan 17, 2012

I have a simple Sub:

[code]...

It's job is to scroll the textbox (txt_folderactivity) after I update the text box with a new entry. The textbox is multi-line, so this keeps us at the bottom so we can see the new stuff. This sub gets called whenever any of the other subs add a line for things like file rename, deletion, etc. based on file system events (using Public watchFolder as FileSystemWatcher).I had a crossthread issue with just updating the textbox, but I wrote in a Delegate /Invoke for that and it works fine (something I found online earlier this morning), but now I have another issue and I'm not sure how to work it.

I'm getting a crossthread issue with this specific Sub specifically at the SelectionLength, and I'd like to set it up with a Delegate and Invoke and such, but I don't know how specifically. I've searched and read, but I don't get it. Do I need a seperate invoke on each of the 3 lines, or is there an overarching Invoke for the whole bit I'm still new-ish to VB and I don't know how to proceed. I've read some MSDN pages and stuff, but they aren't explaining what the problems is really and what I need to do (or prehaps I'm just not getting it).

Textbox Text Not Updating While For Each Loop Running?

Mar 8, 2012

Windows Forms, VB application... Forgive me in advance for this very elementary question but I am overlooking something really simple here. I would like to have a label show the current value of a variable as the for each loop runs.. I created a very simple Button Click event to figure out where its failing. As it is right now the value does not display until after the for each loop finishes running, which it should actually display the counter value each time it runs through... I know this is possible and really simple because I did it years back but for the life of me cant figure out why I am missing the bar as it should constantly update the label to reflect that?Test Sub is as follows:

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim counter As Integer = 0
For x As Integer = 1 To 200000

[code]....
