I've got a program which acts as a schedule for sporting events.The program allows users to fill in event details and they get saved into a directory for the selected date and venue, and in it are text files with the details, and then on another page is a listbox containing all of these directories so that the user can view saved events, and the page retrieves the details from the text files and displays them how I wanted it to.BUT, my 'update' feature just will not work.
basically, I want the user to be able to change the details and press 'update' which will then write the new information to the relevant text files, BUT i get this error in debug mode:
The process cannot access the file 'C:Events PlannerSaturday, May 29, 2010 testvenue.txt' because it is being used by another process.
The code I'm using is below, and from what I've learned, and how I've already coded this program, it should work right?
Code:
Dim venueReaderUpdate As System.IO.StreamReader
venueReaderUpdate = _
My.Computer.FileSystem.OpenTextFileReader(ListBox1.SelectedItem + "venue.txt")
I am working on a program using VB.Net 2010 which will enable me to setup groups of files & folders for back up with syncing capabilities etc. I have a concept program which is based on some sample code I found out in one of the VB.Net forums. I have modified it from a command line based program to a form based program. At the moment I consider this code to be a "concept" program which once I have the various copy/sync routines developed and debugged will be integrated in to another program I wrote for creating "Back Up" groups to automate the process. There are some 3rd party programs that do similar things that I want to do such as Microsofts Sync Toy, but none of them offer the grouping and exclusions options that I am going to program in to this backup/sync program.
So here is my problem, I have the included code taking two folders, a source and a destination, and copying everything from the source to the destination. It will skip over any unchanged files/folders and will delete anything found in the destination folder that is not found in the source folder and it will update all files in the destination folder that have a newer version in the source folder. In other words it will mirror image the source to the destination but will be smart enough not to copy unchanged items from the source to the destination thereby saving a lot of time. The sync part of the program is working fine, the displaying of the progress and results is not.
I am developing an application toolbar to be used with our companys CAD software and I have this portion of it Reading the lines of a text file into various comboboxes and such. However, if there are only 12 lines in the text file when I click a button to update and apply the new information i get an error because the file is already open. I need to figure out how to make sure its closed before WriteAllLines kicks in.
Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click If System.IO.File.Exists("c: emp est2.txt") Then Dim theFile As String = "c: emp est2.txt" [Code] .....
I have a dialogue texttbox to enter new texts, what code shall i use in my MainForm so that the panel control- systems.windows.form.panel (which I have on the mainform) gets updated with the text which i entrred in the dialogue box text field.
I have a windows form which contains a textbox.I have a loop in my code doing some farly intensive work. In the middle of the loop I want to update my text box.text property on the form to let my users see some simple progress.
I created a form which I communicate with a Programmable logic controller through the Com Port. I have successfully sent commands to it and it has responded with the correct response. For example if i send the command CR through the Com port It comes back CC.I have put a timer that checks the text box for the com port response The problem is that the check box ticks if CC is put in manually into the textbox but once it is sent from the com port it don't automatically do it when the textbox refreshs. How can I refresh the textbox so that it ticks the box after a automatic change of text. I have also tried the textchanged method.
I have one combobox, two buttons (Add and View) and listbox. When I click button Add text from combobox is added to text file. This is code for Add button:
I have a ProbationComboBox with the SelectedValue bound to a RegistrationBindingSource, and the DisplayMember bound to a ProbationBindingSource. [code]
It's job is to scroll the textbox (txt_folderactivity) after I update the text box with a new entry. The textbox is multi-line, so this keeps us at the bottom so we can see the new stuff. This sub gets called whenever any of the other subs add a line for things like file rename, deletion, etc. based on file system events (using Public watchFolder as FileSystemWatcher).I had a crossthread issue with just updating the textbox, but I wrote in a Delegate /Invoke for that and it works fine (something I found online earlier this morning), but now I have another issue and I'm not sure how to work it.
I'm getting a crossthread issue with this specific Sub specifically at the SelectionLength, and I'd like to set it up with a Delegate and Invoke and such, but I don't know how specifically. I've searched and read, but I don't get it. Do I need a seperate invoke on each of the 3 lines, or is there an overarching Invoke for the whole bit I'm still new-ish to VB and I don't know how to proceed. I've read some MSDN pages and stuff, but they aren't explaining what the problems is really and what I need to do (or prehaps I'm just not getting it).
Windows Forms, VB application... Forgive me in advance for this very elementary question but I am overlooking something really simple here. I would like to have a label show the current value of a variable as the for each loop runs.. I created a very simple Button Click event to figure out where its failing. As it is right now the value does not display until after the for each loop finishes running, which it should actually display the counter value each time it runs through... I know this is possible and really simple because I did it years back but for the life of me cant figure out why I am missing the bar as it should constantly update the label to reflect that?Test Sub is as follows:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim counter As Integer = 0 For x As Integer = 1 To 200000
I am able to load a dataset with records from a sql database. I then loop through the data using a for loop, this works fine. As part of the loop I would like to update the contents of a textBox.text property. The problem is that it will only update the text field when the loop is complete. How can I update the text content for each record in the loop? I hope this makes since.
I have a program that sorts through data and exports to excel. This works fine on a small file but when using a bigger one it runs down then repeats the same line around 1k times then moves on to wrap it up.
Dim lineindex As Integer Dim first As Integer Dim currentlinetext As String
With the following example of code, whenever the user clicks a menu item it will load up a new form. This form will then read from a database, and create text boxes throughout.
Private Sub allowances_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load If mainMenu.currentSlic.ToString = "0" Then
I'm still somewhat new to ASP, and can't seem to figure out what the issue is.When I update an item in FormView, I need the text of a button to change.I'm using:
Protected Sub fvClientInfo_ItemUpdated(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.FormViewUpdatedEventArgs) Handles fvClientInfo.ItemUpdated btnEditClient.Text = "Edit"
Private Sub runExe() Dim myProcess As New Process() Dim myProcessStartInfo As New ProcessStartInfo("mkclean", " --optimize """ & txtSrcFile.Text & """ """ & txtSaveFile.Text & """")
I am having issues understanding why it is that a text box that has been bound to a dataset correctly updates that dataset when the text in the box is manually changed i.e. by changing it using the keyboard but the dataset does not recognise the change when I change it in code.Am I missing something obvious? The text is changed in code when the user clicks on a command button that copies the text from another textbox on the form to this textbox.
[Code]...
As i mentioned, manually it works fine but when I use the comman button to change the text it does not recognise that any changes have occured.
there is a tab control system. It relies on only five text boxes, and their bindings change when the tab is changed The relevant information is displayed. However, if I navigate to a different record...You can see that the same information is displayed in the tab control text boxes, and not the employee's details I just selected in the data grid or the navigation. How can I fix this? I'm not sure what's gone wrong here. Here's the code that changes the text boxes upon changing tab...
Private Sub TabCheck() If TabState = 1 Then pnlTabs.BackgroundImage = My.Resources.tabs1
I have a webpage with a form that is used to edit some object. This object contains a Collection of other objects defined like this: Public Overridable Property Employees As List(Of Employee)
On a form I can delete an employee, add a new one or modify existing one. When I click save new values are sent to the server. On a server I check if the user exists. If exists then I modify its values, if it does not exist then I add it. All employees that exist on the server and were not sent are marked as deleted (State changed to EntityState.Deleted). I try to use the following code (dbCollection = database entities, newCollection = collection sent from the form):
[Code]...
This code does not work, because changing to EntityState.Deleted removes the object from collection, and for each loop breaks, since the collection is modified...I know that I can overcome this problem by using a for loop or adding objects to delete to some other list first, but I hope maybe there is a pattern that would make my code nicer.
Right so I have my piece of software, it's complete (for now) and I want to get the final version of it and send it away. Once sent away the only way I'll be able to update it will be via a DVD or maybe if they download the update online.This is what I wanna know: I am just using the .exe file from the Debug folder, is this the right way? Do I need to compile it first and do a proper saving of the .exe file?Is there a way to specifically do the updating of the .exe file that is somewhere else? At the moment my thoughts would be to just copy the .exe file from the debug folder and wack it on a disk with a bat file that xcopys it. Is that considered the right way to do it?
Can I stop updating the user display of a control (rich text box) temporarily? I want it to process what I tell but not change how it looks for just a small piece of code.
I guess that I should preface this by saying that I am totally new to VB, but I come from the PHP/MySQL world so I can work my way through things syntactically. That being said, I have made a program that expedites a few things that I do on a routine basis at my place of work. However, because I have no idea what I'm really doing, my app logs up while the UI thread does all the background work.
What I am trying to accomplish, is a few things. Have multiple functions/subs [done]Somehow generate a generic method that executes a sub when called (one at a time, always)My already coded subs return values (for updating a progress bar for example) but have the background thread that spawns the function, update my UI threads progress bar / list box with the output.I guess I want to know if this is even doable, and secondarily, how would I go about doing this? I understand the idea of threading, but all of the tutorials that I have seen / read are pretty convoluted.
I am working on this program and need read info from an access database to a DataGridView. Now that part i can do. the part i cannot do, and the code i dont know what it is, is to save or update the newly edited data to the access file.
Simply put, I am trying to have a string in an XML document have a 'Last accessed' time/date be updated when the user clicks the 'Update' button - Everything works perfectly as I have it, but the DateTime has to be manually changed [ XML doc is searched for the String I need, got that, and the String is input to TextBox2, which is then modified, and saved - No problem ] - I just want to know if I can have just PART of the String updated... Here is the code I have so far:
None of the Microsoft videos I have watched, or the other posts I have seen, have given me the pieces I need to understand this process. This is the one key piece of understanding that I need to finish about 4 different programs I have started in the last 2 years. All of them key on understanding the following processes:
I am writing a simple app using Visual Basic 2008 Pro, and SQL Server 2005 as the backend. However, I copied the database file (.mdf) from another computer onto my laptop. I added it as a Data Source by having the Data Provider as "Microsoft SQL Server Database File" and have it attach the file to the local SQL server. However, it isn't set to copy the database to the output directory every time the program is run for debugging, as I thought that would save time.
Now however, the data update to the database are very wierd. I run the program, add some new data, save it, and it returns the new primary keys properly (that is, it turns from -1 to 4 or 5 or whatever, indicating that the data has been saved). When I close and re-run the application to check that the data has indeed been saved, it reflects the changes and shows me the new data. However, when the program is run again after some time, the changes I made are gone. I'm assuming this is due to some wierd way in which VB is updating the database that temporarily updates its cached or copied database, but doesn't actually change the real database. How do I fix this? I had previously done the same project on another computer, except there the data source was directly the local SQL server, and I had created the database directly on the server through Visual Studio itself, and I didn't face those problems then. Is there any way to manually attach the SQL Server database file (.mdf) to the local SQL server instance permanently, and change the app to use the attached database instead?
If I create a new project on VS2010, and add the WMP.dll reference place the WMP control on a blank VB form, build and debug the application it will run just fine.But if I upgrade a project that already had the WMP.dll reference in it, I cannot debug the application because I gives me this error
I am creating a database application via visual studio, using VB.NET and with an access database. I've connected them and have been using them fine so far however I've had to make some changes to the original access database. I am unable to find an obvious way to update the current dataset object within the project from the new updated source file. My database has this new schema but the dataset has the old one so its causing conflicts. The only way I've found to do this in the past is to manually update the dataset with the changes I've made in the access file, so actually doing the same thing twice! Surely this isn't the only way? The changes I've recently made are massive so will take sometime to have to do it all again. If I delete the current datasource object and add it again, there are many errors left from the deletion. If I manually try to update the files, there's always some hidden ones I've missed. Ive found some sort of guide for updating the datasource via the dataset but what I want to do is the opposite!
