Can I stop updating the user display of a control (rich text box) temporarily? I want it to process what I tell but not change how it looks for just a small piece of code.
View 5 RepliesI am writing my own script for a simple calculator that determines if a number is prime, and its prime factors.[code]The loopcount = compare - 2 means I want the loop to be 2 less than the square root of the answer so that when do a descending calculation (loopcount = loopcount - 1) it doesn't see if 1 or 0 is a factor of the answer. for the calculations after that, I want, every time n1 = n2 (a whole number factor of the answer), I want to report those results to a text file (n2 and n3) in this format "(n2, n3)" then go to the next line. and continue to execute the loop until the loopcount is zero. Currently, when I run the code, the application closes when I click the prime button (button that runs this code) and I don't know why. This is my first semester in school, and have never coded before, so I am a definite laymen with code, but I really really want to learn it (hence why for fun im just creating algorithms for different things).
View 2 RepliesI have a rich text box which I use in order the user is able to add pictures, coloured writing, different font etc... however I need to load specific text in the rich text box when the user load the Form.how I can add (I guess) the HTML to load this every time the user load the form.
P.S the text will change depending on who loads the form so I can not do a simple

The text is black. then, i have a button which calls the dialogue "Notes" A dialogue appears, with a rich text box. the user should then be able to enter text into the box, click "OK", and the text entered into the Notes dialogue be inserted to the rich text box on the main form -- with the font colour "Red". The rest of the text in the main rich text box on the main form should remain black.
View 2 RepliesI'm Making a Simple syntax highlighter and I'm Doing the highlighting in the text Changed event of a RTB and for obvious reasons I can't re highlight the whole document each time someone presses a key so i highlight one line each time the text changes. But this creates a Problem. If someone pastes code into the RichTextBox It only highlights the last Line. So is there a way to get if the user typed the text in with his keyboard or pasted it from the clipboard in the text Changed event?

I have an application that allows the user to define text in a rich textbox. I would like to give the user the ability to define text for one or more languages. I don't think this will be a problem using the rich textbox as it allows for unicode characters and DBCS (please let me know if this is incorrect). My question is, I display this text throughout the app in other controls as well, such as a listbox, label, etc. by acquiring the RTF's Text property (plain text). Are there problems with other controls displaying unicode/DBCS characters? I realize that I may have to toggle the font of the control in question depending on the language (I will allow the user to specify a default font per language).

What happened to the old Rich Text Box Control? I remember it having a toolbar attached to it with all the common stuff like font editing etc. I just get a plain text box now. I am using VS2008 and would like to have either the old Rich text box control or something like the HTML Editor in Ajax to use with my Windows Forms App.

I don't want to find the text, select it and color it as it is not practical for what I'm doing. I've tried outputting RTF code but that isn't working either. Can I actually do this or will I have to write a dll?

i have a RTB control on a form showing rich text
At the top of the RTB i have a toolstrip with bold, italic, and underline buttons - these work just fine. However i need to add some color buttons, i dont need a color picker since i only need 3 colors - Black, Blue, Red. So i added some buttons for these, however i cant get the buttons to work... my syntax is wrong. I also dont want the color buttons to remove any other formatting from text (like bold, underline, etc) - i achieved this for the other buttons like so:

It would AWSOME if it can convert rtf to html and html to rtf. I have tried the C1 and that was bad. It does not read rtf and does not convert anything. And it was really slow.
View 4 RepliesI'm having problems with getting a rich text box control in vb.net to automatically wrap text to a new line when text is "loaded" from a text or rich text file that was created with an editor such as wordpad. Both the multiline and wordwrap properties are set to true. Also the RightMargin property is set to the width of the rich text box control minus 20.
It seems as though the word wrap function only works when I'm typing text into the rich text box. But I need it to work when I'm loading text from a file in the format of .rtf or .txt that was created with a text editor such as notepad or wordpad.
I am wondering how to style text like in Notepad++ when you have certain operands and it changes their color.

I am trying to create a viewer for files with large (sometimes over 2,000 characters) records. I want to use the rich text box control and show a given record in rows of 100 characters each. I have set the font to Courier New and sized the RTB appropriately to show the records correctly. However, if there is a record with 80 consecutive alpha characters followed by a space, then 120 consecutive alpha characters, the RTB separates the line at the space, as if there were a vbLF there. This happens in other cases, but I haven�t been able to figure out how the RTB decides when to break the line.

I am using VB 2008 and want to record a start date and time and then the stop date and time in a rich text box, i can get the start time into the box but so far can only stop the time instead of 2 seperate times, what i have is a drop down box with a list of computers 1-10 i was trying to get it so you picked a certain computer and that went into the text box then you started the timer and that was recorded, finally you stopped the timer and that was recorded but as i am a total newbie it does not work

I'd like to temporarily disable events for a given control. For example, the SelectionChanged event on a combobox might be used to update a display every time the user changes the combobox... but while I'm filling the combobox with values, I don't want the SelectionChanged event to be firing over and over... I need to disable events while the combobox is being populated. How do I do this?

It must then carry on and when a different thread gets to that point it stops again and waits for the user to input some text again.
