I have a very long running syncronization task that cannot be interrupted by the screen saver or aggressive power saving modes. I want to make a single api call to stop power save mode and then restore it once the task is done. The following code is peaced together from various other posts but it has no effect on XP's power management settings.[code]
I want to show system ideal time in WPF window (like screen saver). I can able to get system ideal time. But how to set my application property to screen saver property. Can anyone shoot me a zip file for the RSS Screensaver Starter Kit for Visual Basic .NET Express
Microsoft's web site claims it is part of of the Visual Basic .NET Express download. I downloaded it but when I click on file / new project, RSS Screensaver Starter Kit is not there.
I want a video to pop up over my form acting like a screen saver. I can get a video to play, like a windows media file but I dont want the windows media player to be visible. The video should start if the mouse hasnt moved in say a minute or
how can i enable/disable screen saver by vb.net?i have found only samples to do this with vb6 with a api but in vb.net there is some way to call the same api?
I have been playing about with the WM_SYSCOMMAND Message and more specifically with the SC_SCREENSAVE parameter which is a cool way to pick up when the screen saver is activated as seen below:[code] What I can't seem to find is if there is a way to detect when the screen saver comes off.
I have an application than disables the screen saver temporarily in order to run a slide show. I use this to turn it on or off:
i = SystemParametersInfo(SPI_SETSCREENSAVEACTIVE, active, Nothing, SPIF_SENDWININICHANGE)
This works fine in XP. In Windows 7, it disables the screen saver properly. However, when it is enabled again, at the normal time for the screen saver to come on, the system asks for a password instead of showing the screen saver. From this time on until the screen saver settings are adjusted in the control panel, the password screen is displayed in place of the screen saver. Is there something else I should be doing for Windows 7? I understand that SPI_GETSCREENSAVEACTIVE is not supported in Windows 7, but SPI_SETSCREENSAVEACTIVE is supposed to be.

Our program works fine, until someone locks the computer or the screen-saver pops up (but not ctrl+alt+delete). Once the computer is unlocked/the screen saver is closed, the application stops drawing everything except the title bar, and stops responding to input - it displays a mostly-white window which can't be moved or closed.(Example of application freezing - the mountains are from my desktop background)If we let it sit for about 5~10 minutes, it comes back to life, and doesn't hang again (even after locking the computer/screen saver popup) until the application is restarted.
Can I stop updating the user display of a control (rich text box) temporarily? I want it to process what I tell but not change how it looks for just a small piece of code.
how to do a simple screen saver using VB.NET when the user do not use my application? DO i need to use API programming in order to do it?I just need a simple screen saver that will load my flash file (swf) into my webbrowser on my WinForm if the user no longer use my application.Note that this is a Window-base application, NOT web-based.
I need to record the screen when my user clicks start, and stop recording when he clicks stop.I've searched for a while on this subject, and I have found nothing.I want to do this without adding any files to my project, I just want to use some built in function in Visual Basic, and start recording, or even take a snapshot and add it to an AVI file or something...These are some sites I have found:

This code is in VB6, but I am not sure how to even start using it?
I have a picturebox that is moving across the screen. At the moment I want it too stop at a certain point until a button that is called next is pressed. I then want the picture box to carry on moving across the screen (The total number of times I want this to happen is 5)
Dim nextcommand As Integer = 7 Dim rewindcommand As Integer = 7 Dim x As Integer = 144 Dim y As Integer = 44 Private Sub NextButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles NextButton.Click [Code] .....
RUNNING VERSION 2008 Basic I've decieded to put a Splash Screen on my software. My main question is how do you make it so the Splash Screen shows for about five seconds and then startup Form1.
Also, on the splash screen it auto-fills the info. Does anybody know how to get rid of that and make it custom?
My code is evaluating a table on one sheet and if the record meets the criteria it is copy and pasted into a target worksheet. While it runs the screen is flashing as it updated each line. I thought I saw that you could disable this screen refresh until the program was complete. Can anyone tell me how this would be done? Below is a section fo the code which is performaing this task.
SourceWS = "DASHBOARDSTG" 'Set Source Worksheet Name
This kind of goes along with my Shut Down & Restart thread from a few weeks ago, but one of the things I'm wondering is if it's possible to detect if the system has Hibernation enabled, or in the case of Win2k if hibernation is even possible.I already know how to hibernate the computer via the Framework:Application.SetSuspendState(PowerState.Hibernate, True, True)but in my program I would like to provide the hibernate option only if the OS A) is new enough to be able to and B) has it enabled in the user's Power Options in the control panel. I can't seem to find anything via Google and MSDN that leads me in the right direction.
I have 2 buttons in my form, one to hibernate the pc, and one to put it to standby. However, when I click standby, the pc hibernates too.I want to disable and re-enable hibernation, but I need to detect whether it is enabled or not, because I don't want to enable it if the user has disabled it.

My app is running in the tray and I want it to give a reminder to the user its there when they resume from a hibernation, sleep, or from being locked. I know how to handle the popup, but I cant find out anywhere how to detect that 'wake' status from those power saving modes.
form1 has datagridview, when I click "add new", form2 appears(details view, allowing me to add new records into datagridview on form1). when I click "add new" again, form2 appears again, if I click x times, form2 will appear x times. How do I stop the add new button and all the functions on form1 from working until form2 is closed?
BTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps. Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?
I am writing an application that puts a computer in hibernation mode (Application.SetSuspendState). I have noticed that there exists a specific option that needs to be enabled for the machine to hibernate correctly and that is found in Control Panel--> Power Options --> Hibernate Tab (if this option is not checked then the machine goes into stand by mode rather than hibernate) Is there a way to programmatically check the status of the "Enable Hibernation" check box and check/uncheck it?
