View 7 RepliesThe title says it all. I'm looking for a way to stop flickering in my animations using the .net GDI + for making a 2d game. I've found lot's of bad tutorials online about double buffering and refresh but none of them work.
View 2 RepliesI'm having trouble with a football program that I'm writing. I'm finding that there is a lot of flicker coming from the program having to redrawn 36 (Australian football) small circles with numbers in them about 10 times per second (or even more) as the players move.I'm just using basic e.graphics. fillellipse.code in the Paint section of the form. I then use me.invalidate on the timer's tick routine.I haven't touched this graphical stuff for a while and I vaguely remember there being some ways to help this. There are also things like the ground which I'd like to not have redrawn because they don't have to as they don't move. I remember that you can do this but I don't remember how.
View 2 Repliesform1 has datagridview, when I click "add new", form2 appears(details view, allowing me to add new records into datagridview on form1). when I click "add new" again, form2 appears again, if I click x times, form2 will appear x times. How do I stop the add new button and all the functions on form1 from working until form2 is closed?
View 6 RepliesI am developing a window based application in VS2008, it has 3 forms.on each forms i have used TableLayout panel and set the Dock property to FILL.due to this, on page load my screen get's flicker and resize event get's called.i have tried with "Doublebuffered" property but failed if i remove doc property (means set it to none) then it's working fine but on only spcific screen resolution my screen works, on higher resolution it get's cut.
View 2 RepliesI need to record the screen when my user clicks start, and stop recording when he clicks stop.I've searched for a while on this subject, and I have found nothing.I want to do this without adding any files to my project, I just want to use some built in function in Visual Basic, and start recording, or even take a snapshot and add it to an AVI file or something...These are some sites I have found:

I have a 18kb 1024 x768 jpeg image that is set as background image of my form. The problem is the form now lags like crazy. How can I eliminate the lag?
View 1 RepliesWhen I add or modify controls on the form the graphics are redrawn many times over. The more graphics that are drawn the slower the machine gets.
View 1 RepliesI am using a MDI form and child forms. Now I don't like the standard back colour of mdi form so I got code on the net which paints a gradient colour to the mdi. So far it is working okay. Now the problem is when I load a child form or close it or do a similar activity then it causes flicker in the mdi background. This gets pretty annoying at times and you see the background flicker.
View 2 RepliesI was wondering if it someone could help me solve this problem. I have a full screen application with a panel in the center which is used to display different user controls and screens when the user uses the app. However, I have a rather large gradient image set as my form's background and it causes the panel to flicker every time controls are added. I find that when the background image is removed the flicker goes away. How can I keep the background image but eliminate the flicker? My form is already double buffered.

.UseShellExecute = False
To recreate this behaviour, you need to create a pop-up form with the following properties:
(1) ShowInTaskBar = False
(2) Display the form with the Show method and loop until the form is not Visible.
(3) In order to close the form when the mouse is clicked out of it, override OnDeactivate, and set visible to False.
Next, create another form that will display the pop-up when a button is clicked:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As Syste
Using pop As New PopUp
pop.Visible = True
[code]....
it also puts a black border around the form. (You'll have to set FormBorderStyle = System.Windows.Forms.FormBorderStyle.None to see this.)what this style does apart from putting the black border round the form?
We just spent 300 man-hours fixing a buggy application in the field. It all came down to calling Application.DoEvents (re-entrancy problem). This was not caught in design reviews, code reviews. The code was inserted two years ago with the first version; the application was always "flaky" but recent changes exposed the re-entrancy problems to a greater degree. This incident is the second time in our organization that Application.DoEvents caused failures and multi-man hours of debugging. It was discovered in this case by simply noticing the call, buried way down in a complex event handler for an asynchronous task. What do you suggest to prevent this issue from happening again:
Add checkin gates to source control?
Developer training?
Code Analysis rules (why is this not already a built-in rule?)
How to I enforce a coding practice?
I know when I draw to the form and add controls I get a flicker effect. If I draw to a picturebox on the form and add controls will the picturebox flicker?

View 3 RepliesIn VB.NET I've got two forms, on first one I have button, on second - two textboxes and "OK" button. I want to run procedure (Sub) on first form, then stop in the middle of it and wait for input on the second form. After that i want to process the data received from second form.
It looks something like this:
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
'Open form2 for input
[CODE]...
The question is how to call the Form2 so that procedure is stoped till the second form is closed?
I'm having an interesting issue that I can't reproduce on a different project, but can consistently on this one. I have no clue what might be causing it, but am hoping that someone may have seen it before.
I have a main form, from which I run a series of checks. On this form, I have a listview control. Because of some issues with the refreshing of this listview control, I had to create my own messagebox. It's just a form that displays some text ( it also happens to look nicer than MsgBox; in my opinion, anyways ). It's been working great for months, until recently.
My problem is that on my main form's load event, I run this check, which returns an error within a try/catch block. I then call my custom messagebox with a message. It in turns calls it's ShowDialog() function.
In any other situation ( after the main form has been loaded ), I have no problems. The messagebox goes on the screen and behaves appropriately ( ie: waits for my input and acts as a modal dialog ( stops execution of my main form's thread ) ). However, on this onload event, my messagebox comes up and goes away almost immediately afterwards.
I've traced it all the way to the showdialog() call. For no explicable reason, it appears to skip right over this call, without me doing anything on the form.
Here's what the inner trace looks like ( when I put a breakpoint on the onclosing event for this messagebox form ):
CODE:
I open a form using .showdialog and load some info onto it. I have code that runs on the MyBase.Load event. Basically, I have a Try, Catch, End Try block and if the Catch executes in preparing my information, I want the form to stop loading i.e. give a message and not show at all.

View 2 RepliesRequested were made by Businese Analyst to set the few Main FORMs VISIBLE PROPERTY TO FALSE when the POPUP FORM is loaded.
[Code].....
When the MAIN FORM loads the POPUP FORM, on the FRMPOPUPCUSTOMER-FORMLOAD even, it has to set the MAIN FORM Visible to False.
When FRMPOPUPCUSTOMER FORM IS UNLOAD it has to set the MAIN FORM Visible = TRUE.
How to the coding is to ensure that different MAIN FORM when loaded FRMPOPUPCUSTOMER it will turn the MAIN FORM Visible to FALSE.
how to call a function from a different form. Like the button click event. i have this scenario. I have a main form and a child form in the main form there is a navigation panel on the left side controlling the child form. What i want is if clicking the add record in my navigation panel will call a function in the child form to execute.
View 1 RepliesBTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps. Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?
