When a new user enters his user name & password, I want to add these on a data table that has two columns: User, Pass. I'm in the middle of creating an application that will be used to input customer information whilst the customer is speaking to someone over the phone. This involves the customer giving the employee information such as name, address, postcode etc and the employee inputting that information into text boxes and combo boxes that are in the application.
What I would like to be able to do is after the customers information is given over the phone, I need to be able to send that information to a database which will probably most likely be done by button click. In this case, I'm using Microsoft Access. I'm also hoping that I can do this within Visual Basic coding.
The database is set out with multiple tables which include a customer table and a ticket table and both have multiple fields such as first name, surname in the customers table. Both of these tables are in use with the information that the customer gives over the phone.
I've already asked on other forums and people are where replying giving me third party programs that I could use to implement this, something I don't really want to do.

View 12 RepliesOn a Windows form, is there a way to have 2 combo boxes bound to the same bindingsource, but allow the boxes to display different values? The bindingsource is basically customer number and name. I want two combo boxes so the user can choose a starting and ending customer range. When both boxes are bound to the same bindingsource, when either combobox value changes, both boxes get the same value. I am using VS2008, .Net 2.0. Two bindingsources would likely work but seems highly inefficient since the data is the same. The list of customers could potentially be 50,000 records or more. Is there a better way to implement this range option besides combo boxes?
View 4 RepliesI have a class which I'm binding to a series of textboxes, date pickers and so on. When I change text in the text boxes, the object updates just fine, and when I then save the data, it has the changes. My problem seems to be with the RTB ... if I bind to the .Text property, it works just fine and updates like any normal text box. However... when I bind to the RTF property... changes to the object don't happen unless I first click out of the RTB... quite annoying. If I edit the text or change the formatting, and hit the save button, the changes don't get reflected in my object. I've even tried using debug statements to track when the property is changed, and I'm not getting the results I desire.

I've done data binding to my Combos and it works fine but my data base has over 260 000 entries, so I can't let user to move trough it, one by one entry until finds a match.What I am looking for is that user select value from Combo Boxes and Text Boxes get filled in with a matching values from the same row.Auto Complete helps in selection but I still can't work it out how to get values to my text boxes.

I currently have my cute little first program made... I'm just stepping into the water with this programming thing. I made a program where you can select a shape from a drop-down list and then input some values and click a button and get the area of the shape. I have it working so that when a certain shape is chosen, certain fields are disabled, such as when you pick "circle" from the combo box, the "length", "width", and "number of sides" text boxes are disabled but the "radius" text box is enabled, thus allowing you to enter the radius and find the area. I want to make it so that when you first load the program, all of the text boxes for the length, width, number of sides and radius are disabled until you select a shape from the list. Currently I'm using

I don't know if you can tell what I am trying to do here, so I will try to explain. I what to create for random numbers and place them into for different text boxes. I also would like to do this with combo boxes and their selected indexes. So if the combo box has 10 items in it; the new selected index would be the random number generated above.

Visual studio 2005 - vb.net..I have a user control on a form containing 15 combo boxes.All contain Y, N, and blank (for Yes, No, or blank) in the Items Collection property.Each of the combo boxes have a binding source to the same table, different fields.When you select a value Y, N, or blank for any of the fields and do a save, the values save while the application is open.Once you close and reopen, the values are gone.It appears the dataset does not recognize the change, so the values are not getting stored in the database table. Is there something I can do or put in one of the events that would identify this as a change.

View 6 RepliesMy application has textboxes that are bound to DataSet fields of a SQl Server 2005 database. The columns in the database allow nulls. The column properties in the DataSet have AllowDBNull set to true. Attempting to write the un-changed data back to the database replaces the NULL values with "", and the update fails on the datetime columns with an error about being unable to convert "" to a date. It appears that the problem is that the null values from the database are being converted into empty strings when the textbox is populated.

I have a Jet database that contains the table of interest, tblCategory. tblCategory has three attributes of interest for this issue: fldCategoryID, fldParentCategoryID, and fldName. There is a self-join from fldCategoryID to fldParentCategoryID (one-to-many). On my form I wish to have a combobox display all the categories available (shows the fldName attribute of tblCategory) and assign the selected value to fldParentCategoryID.
So, my form is based on a dataset that is attached to tblCategory in the normal way. That works just fine. To facilitate the combobox, I created another dataset that simply contains fldCategoryID and fldName attributes and is non-editable - imaginatively named dsLUCategory (dataset lookup Category).

I am having issues understanding why it is that a text box that has been bound to a dataset correctly updates that dataset when the text in the box is manually changed i.e. by changing it using the keyboard but the dataset does not recognise the change when I change it in code.Am I missing something obvious? The text is changed in code when the user clicks on a command button that copies the text from another textbox on the form to this textbox.

I have a data-bound combobox that pulls values from a BindingList(of T). Combobox loads fine, correct values are displayed (I'm not using SelectedItem or SelectedValue). I'm using properties and connecting the data to the control via a bindingsource.
What I want is if the user types text into the combobox, I want the data from the bound table to change to that new text, i.e. edit the bound data directly.
Easy as pie to do with a textbox, but can't seem to get a combobox to work this way.
I was trying to use the validated event of the combobox to write the data to the datasource, but it doesn't fire when I press enter. Is that the way to do it? Can I not link the data to the combobox directly?
I need to to able to save multiple text-boxes and a combo-box to a text file. the thing is, when I go to save, I check out the .txt file manually and its saved all in one line, no spaces. when I go to "read" it with the 2nd part (<-----this is a 2 part Challenge) it even reads all from that one line in the text file. What i'm asking is how can I make my text-boxes saved in the text file on different lines. [Code]
View 10 RepliesI have 5 combo boxes that need to show the same list of items that come from a single dataset table. I have managed to bind the datatable to the combo boxes no problem at all.. but when I run the application and select an item from one of the combo boxes all the others change to the item I selected. After some research I believe that this problem is something to do with using the one datasource so I have tried assigning the dataset datatable to 2 different variables and used them as datasources for 2 of the comboboxes but the same still happens.
A work around to this I can see is to call the same methods and SQL select statements 5 times over to get individual datasources for each combo box but this doing that sounds crazy to me. how I can get around this easily? Code snippet below shows 2 combox boxes and their datasources. I'm using VS2005, .Net 2

I have a datagridview control that will be used to allow the user to input records. The control uses a combobox column to select a type of service. There is a rate associated with the type of service that I then want to display in the grid. The user then enters a quantity and the last column mulitplies the rate and quantity to get a total. I have the combobox , quantity and total columns figured out but I don't know how to get the rate column to automatically be selected when the type of service is selected.
