Way To Have 2 Combo Boxes Bound To The Same Bindingsource
Mar 25, 2010
On a Windows form, is there a way to have 2 combo boxes bound to the same bindingsource, but allow the boxes to display different values? The bindingsource is basically customer number and name. I want two combo boxes so the user can choose a starting and ending customer range. When both boxes are bound to the same bindingsource, when either combobox value changes, both boxes get the same value. I am using VS2008, .Net 2.0. Two bindingsources would likely work but seems highly inefficient since the data is the same. The list of customers could potentially be 50,000 records or more. Is there a better way to implement this range option besides combo boxes?

None of the Microsoft videos I have watched, or the other posts I have seen, have given me the pieces I need to understand this process. This is the one key piece of understanding that I need to finish about 4 different programs I have started in the last 2 years. All of them key on understanding the following processes:

So as the name states; I am a newer coder.
This is the code i have:
Public Sub RandomNumbers()
Dim s(4) As String
Dim RandomNumber As Byte
I don't know if you can tell what I am trying to do here, so I will try to explain. I what to create for random numbers and place them into for different text boxes. I also would like to do this with combo boxes and their selected indexes. So if the combo box has 10 items in it; the new selected index would be the random number generated above.

I'm in the middle of creating an application that will be used to input customer information whilst the customer is speaking to someone over the phone. This involves the customer giving the employee information such as name, address, postcode etc and the employee inputting that information into text boxes and combo boxes that are in the application.
What I would like to be able to do is after the customers information is given over the phone, I need to be able to send that information to a database which will probably most likely be done by button click. In this case, I'm using Microsoft Access. I'm also hoping that I can do this within Visual Basic coding.
The database is set out with multiple tables which include a customer table and a ticket table and both have multiple fields such as first name, surname in the customers table. Both of these tables are in use with the information that the customer gives over the phone.
I've already asked on other forums and people are where replying giving me third party programs that I could use to implement this, something I don't really want to do.

I am developing a program that makes it easier for users to log on to a website and search for specific data. I have the first portion finished in which I have a form with the Ax Web Browser control.
The web browser control navigates to a local website and automatically logs in for the end user. This is done by using code which automatically fills in the username and password and then submits the form to logon using something similar to this: WebBrowser1.Document.Forms.Item(, 0).elements("txtUsername").value = "user"
Once logged on - there is a search page which contains a combo box and list box. I am trying to set specific values for the combo box and list boxes. For example - the combo box on the website is titled: cbxDate and contains the following values: Today, Yesterday, This Week, This Month.
A list box titled: lstArea contains the following values: Zone A, Zone B, Zone C, All.I am trying to figure out if there is a way through code to select, in this example, "Yesterday" in the cbxDate and "Zone B" in the lstArea on the webpage. If anyone knows of a solution, please feel free to let me know. Be advised that I am using the Ax Web Browser Control.

How do I update a field in the underlying bindingsource for rows selected in a datagridview.
I can do it for single row in the bindingsource but not for several selected rows in the datagridview.
bindingsource.table.current is usually the current row in the datagridview

I have a datagridview that is bound to a list object of a custom type via a BindingSource. From everything I've read, I should be able to click the column headers and the rows sort, This doesn't happen for me. Sortmode is set to automatic and the column headers aren't set to be used for selection so it should work.
I know that I could sort progamatticly but that seems a little bit of a waste given that I should just be able to do it by default.

I have a combo box that is bound to a dataset using the IDE. When I add a row to the table it does not reflect the change in the combo box until after I close the program down and restart it back up.To update the underlying table I open a form from the main form and ask the user for information to add. Then I call the following function to add the info.[code]My binding source for the combo box in the IDE is set to Tb lDrivers BindingSource which gets its info from the above tblDrivers table

(I'm using VS2005)Instead of using a bindingnavigator, I'm setting one field as a databound combo box with the display member and selected value set to the field. Then the other fields are text boxes and change based on the selected value of the combo box.The problem is that when I run the app, the form won't close.

My application has textboxes that are bound to DataSet fields of a SQl Server 2005 database. The columns in the database allow nulls. The column properties in the DataSet have AllowDBNull set to true. Attempting to write the un-changed data back to the database replaces the NULL values with "", and the update fails on the datetime columns with an error about being unable to convert "" to a date. It appears that the problem is that the null values from the database are being converted into empty strings when the textbox is populated.

This ought to be relatively simple... I have a Jet database that contains the table of interest, tblCategory. tblCategory has three attributes of interest for this issue: fldCategoryID, fldParentCategoryID, and fldName. There is a self-join from fldCategoryID to fldParentCategoryID (one-to-many). On my form I wish to have a combobox display all the categories available (shows the fldName attribute of tblCategory) and assign the selected value to fldParentCategoryID.
So, my form is based on a dataset that is attached to tblCategory in the normal way. That works just fine. To facilitate the combobox, I created another dataset that simply contains fldCategoryID and fldName attributes and is non-editable - imaginatively named dsLUCategory (dataset lookup Category).

I bound datagridview to bindingsource. The bindingsource has its datasource a collection Called Rates which is a collection of Rate items. The rate object has a property called VALUE. I need the user to be able to edit different values for the collection; However, on the datagridview, i need to keep displaying on one column called OldValue the existing Rate value before the change while allowing the user to edit that value in a second column called NewValue.
In other terms, One colum OldValue will keep the existing values from the DB before being edited by the user, this column OldValue is readonly. Another column NewValue will display, the 1st time, the old value from the DB (similar to OldValue when we do the Fetch from the DB), but it`s editable column, so the user can modify each value in the column NewValue without overriding OldValue cells. For now, I bound both columns OldValue and NewValue to the same property VALUE of the Rate object,

Visual studio 2005 - vb.net..I have a user control on a form containing 15 combo boxes. All contain Y, N, and blank (for Yes, No, or blank) in the Items Collection property. Each of the combo boxes have a binding source to the same table, different fields. When you select a value Y, N, or blank for any of the fields and do a save, the values save while the application is open.Once you close and reopen, the values are gone.It appears the dataset does not recognize the change, so the values are not getting stored in the database table. Is there something I can do or put in one of the events that would identify this as a change.

I am trying to create a WPF browser application that allows you to search and display recipes. The combo box presents choices, the Ingredients display in one list box and the "cooking" instructions appear in the other list box. What's happening is the first time you make a selection from the combobox nothing displays, and this could be happening because the first line of code under Selectionchanged clears the List Boxes however, it should be populating those list boxes with content, shouldn't it? Anyway, as you make other selections List boxes 1 & 2 get populated but they do not match what displays in the Combo box, i.e. if you select "Easy Taco Dip" any random recipe might appear in List Boxes 1 & 2.
Option Explicit On
Class Page1
'User Makes a selection from the ComboBox which populates List Boxes 1 & 2

I was having a heck of a time populating a gridview combo box.I learned a ton in the last 48 hours but would really like to know the answers to the bottom three questions. You guys are the experts, so I'm hoping you will enlighten meBut the summary of it is below:I was never able to get the ComboBox to bind to the data source. I tried everything until I turned blue. So I went to the basics and coded all the automatic stuff. I'm curious as to why the automatic binding didn't work. Perhaps its because my gridview datasource was LINQ.Here is how I pulled it off. I hope someone down the road benefits from the last 48 hours of my delima:First of all, know that I have two drop down lists on my form, one is the GPField and the other is the BankField. These are already populated DDLs that are static. So I used them to cheat on the values instead of using enums.
Sub fillGPFieldListDDL(ByVal obj As Object)
Dim db As New CompanyDataDataContext
Dim myConn As New Connection With {.ConnCls = ConnCls}

i am using a couple bound comboboxes in a bound datagridview. It seems though, when the combo's are changed, and the tableadapter is filled again, the changes are not being saved to the table. Is there a special trick to getting the data in the combo boxes to saved when the values are changed?

I have two combo boxes: cboRepairCategory (plumbing, landscaping, etc) and cboVendors. I am using Stored Procedures in SQL to store the data from my database and then load them into the combo boxes. The cboRepairCategory will be loaded first. Once the user has selected what type of repair it is I want it to restrict the amount of vendors that can be selected, so instead of saying:CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.up_Fill_Vendor_Combo
AS
SELECT VendorID, CompanyName
FROM Vendors
[code].....
I would select only the vendors that have the RepairType of say Landscaping, so thecboVendor would load now only Vendors with Landscaping instead of all vendors. My question is this: Is this done in SQL in my Stored Procedure or is it done in VB in my functions for my combo boxes. I've never tried this before I am totally lost on it. I have fiddled with the code on both ends but to no avail.
