VS 2008 Create A Certain Button Behavior?

I am trying to create a button behavior such that when you click the button it fires the click event as normal & runs the code under it. But if you click & hold the button for 1 second then it jumps to a different sub & runs some other code. I got my button working that way for the most part, using a timer & the mouse down & mouse up events. The only issue I have is that after the timer fires after 1 second & I execute my alternate code, the normal button click event still fires when I release the mouse button & runs that code. How can I cancel the normal click event so that only the alternate code runs when I click,

I have a form with the FormBorderStyle set to SizeableToolWindow. The close button - 'x' in the upper right corner - sends a DialogResult of 'cancel' to the FormClosing event when clicked. How do I set it so that it will send an 'OK'? I tried setting the form's DialogResult to 'OK' in the New method, but that's not working. I checked my code and I'm not setting it anywhere that I can see.

I am primarily a C# developer; however, I am currently working on a project for a client who preferred VB.net. I have managed to switch over fairly well, with one frustrating exception. When editing a C# file in Visual Studio pressing enter will select an item out of the IntelliSense window and keep the cursor at the end of the selected statement.
However, when editing a VB file, pressing enter selects the item out the IntelliSense popup AND moves the cursor to the next line. I realize that this is a small thing, but it drives me crazy, because it makes it really hard to switch between C# and VB projects.
I have searched for everything I can think of in Google and found nothing. Does anyone know of a way to change the IntelliSense selection behavior?

I know how to create a button through code. I also know how to make a new event for that button. The problem that I am having is creating an event for a button if I do not know what the button is going to be. For example if I wanted to allow a user to have custom buttons that they can setup and link on my form how would I create an individual event for each one, or how does that work?

Ok I have a project which has a MDI parent. Inside the parent I have multiple isntances of a form load(frmLine1t5). When my program loads it will load a different form(frmSelect) and if I manually load a different form(frmRetests) I can put frmSelect on top of frmRetests and bring one another to the front if it's clicked on(without using the bringtofront method)However as soon as I load a single instance of frmLine1t5 I immediately can no longer bring ANY form loaded into the MDI parent(before or after frmLine1t5 has loaded) to the front. I can only bring them to print IF I use .bringtofront method

I am capturing a few system command messages (namely minimize/maximize/restore). Inside the WndProc override I am trying to change the form's Me.ShowInTaskbar value but it is causing weird behavior in that minimization and restoration does not occur properly.Can anyone think of a reason why changing this property would interfere with this? The reason I don't really want to post code is because duplicating the effect takes a bit of code/setup. My initial thought was that changing the property's value is somehow sending another windows message and canceling the one I am currently manipulating. I realize this is a little vague but it's a shot in the dark.

I have created a custom logonui.exe in VB.NET and I know how to make it replace the existing logonui.exe, but I am having trouble with the functions, such as shutdown, restart and log in. I don't need to get the list of users, because there is only one user account on the system and it is not password protected. I just need it to log in to the account when the user clicks a button and to be able to shutdown when the user clicks a different button.

I need to know how to have a button on a tab to create another button on a second tab that contains a panel, with appropriate spacing, the same size as other buttons already present, and the name of the tab that generated this new button as the text on the newly created button. I.e. button1 on tab1 will create and place a new button on a panel in tab2 that already has a grid of buttons (maybe 3x10 buttons) which will be placed underneath a particular column with the text tab2 on the new button which can also refer back to that tab automatically. Hopefully we can get all this code under a single button event.
I also don't know how to have a button on tab1 that focuses on tab2, which sets the back button on tab2 with a reference to go back to tab1 in order to remain dynamic. I.e. clicking on tab1's button will go to tab2 and set the back button there with a link back to the tab it was referred from.
I'd also like to know if there's an easy way to create and destroy tabs with a specific layout. I.e. We have home tab, and comment tab. (This is for the sake of argument) On the comment tab1 (which contains all posted comments), we have a new comment button which creates a comment tab2 (or a dialog box for that matter) with appropriate textboxes, labels, and buttons in the right places which could also make use of the issues I posted above. So the new comment button on the comment tab1 will create either a new comment tab2 with appropriate objects, or a dialog box with the same, and then the submit button on this comment tab2 or box will create a new textfield/buttons on the panel containing the grid of buttons with the information provided in the fields from comment tab2/dialog box which is then destroyed.
I hope i haven't made the examples too confusing, but I can't figure out how to even make progress in these directions. Trying either fails completely, or semi-fails in getting these examples to function 100%.
I've already tried posting in other forums, but with no replies. Hopefully you all can help me figure this out.EDIT: This is not homework, I have scoured forums and google trying to find the answer to these problems. I'm hoping that because these are mainly VB based forums I can find some answers here.

I have some strange stuff happening within a class used only once for a single thread that lives within a STA. function pulls data from a socket via a blocking call, and then converts and writes the data to a string. The behavior of the string is where things go awry.The data is always written to the string without problem, but then when the string is then queried, any data within the string disappears immediately after.It most commonly happens on these lines:If DataLineRetrvd.Contains("ENDMSG") Then ...While DataLineRetrvd <> "" ...If DataLineRetrvd results in the above conditions being true, then immediately after the value of DataLineRetrvd is "".

I am busy with a Windows Forms application.The purpose of the application is to convert Excel documents to HTML format so that they can be published to a website.I have most of the code finished and the application is looking really good.I have although encountered a problem. On the Form I have created an Export, File and Edit button.With the edit button I would like the user to be able to select whether they would like to save the 1st,2nd,3rd sheet and so forth.
I would like to create a window/Form within the edit button that would say something like "select excel sheet" along with a save button where the required sheet number could be saved or selected as a standard save procedure everytime.I know that I need to do this with the settings.settings control. I have tried numerous ideas up until now but it continues to baffle me.

I'm writing an in-house intranet application in ASP.NET and VB.NET. My 'customers' are beginner to medium-level users. All of our browsers are IE8 and above, standard.The application works great, except for one thing. The backspace key. When a user types an invalid number into a textbox, a RegularExpressionValidator and ValidatorCalloutExtender fire off and notify the user. Perfect. Except that, when the user closes the popup warning and notices the cursor is still flashing in the textbox, he/she feels it's time to hit the backspace key and delete that pesky field value.
Unfortunately, the browser interprets this action as a desire to go 'back' into the page history. My boss is screaming. His bosses are screaming. I have a headache.So, how can I turn off this behavior? I still need the backspace to eliminate characters in the textbox, but nothing else. Company policy here: Backspace is to delete characters from the screen. Nothing more, nothing less.

Strange vb.NET application behavior/One application e.g. does some recursive operations against a ftp server as it synchronizes a local directory with a remote directory. When this part is finished, recursively I loop through the local directory to compare each individual file with a hash code table file retrieved from remote to be sure the source file and the destination file are identical. The processing speed to me during the coding was really satisfactory, but all over sudden the all over performance has been reduced by factor 3. So what happened was I closed an application named TeamSpeak. As you can guess it took me a while to figure out what was happening. This behavior is reproducible even with other applications like Outlook or Winamp?To make it short: e.g. TeamSpeak is up and running, my application runs 3 times faster than without TeamSpeak up and running ... same code - no changes !!!
