View 5 RepliesI have read a lot of the prior questions/answers on this topic but it only took me so far. I have a solution to which I added 2 additional programs. These 2 added programs in essence create a PDF2TIFF converter using GS. I wish to call that form and use it as a utility from my main program. After reading other answers in the forum, I added these two programs as references in the main program and imported everything available, into the main program. I have what seems to be a correct build order set up. I want to open the form in the utility project(s) from a link on my main form. I tried a few things but the only way I could write the code without errors was to instantiate the second program then call that with a button click.

I have a few forms that have a lot of really intensive updating along with a great deal of user interface (text boxes, button clicking etc) Is it possible to open a separate form as a separate UI thread from the start up form that called it to "show" or open or whatever the new method might be?
View 6 RepliesI cannot get my application to display in English, it always displays in French I have an application that uses 2 languages. The default language is en-GB and the second language is French For setting the text of the buttons and labels. I have set the localized property to true and changing the language to fr-FR on the form. So setting the default languages controls by choosing the default the language property, and then switching to French language to set the French controls. So I have the following files:
Code:formMain.resxformMain.fr-FR.resxformMain.Designer.vbformMain.vb
And for message boxes and other strings I have added these 2 resource files
Code:formMain.Strings.resxformMain.Strings.fr-FR.resx
So if I want to switch to different languages I have changed the cultureInfo as follows:
Code:If My.Settings.Default.Language = "fr-FR" Then Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = New CultureInfo("fr-FR")Else Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = New CultureInfo("en-GB")End If
And for string I use the following:
Code:MessageBox.Show(formMain_Strings.SameStringName)
I also an address book form that is a child of the formMain. Which I have used the same method. However, the address book works as normal, but the formMain never changes to the language I want. Even though tested by explictly setting the language to en-GB in the form constuctor before the inializeComponent() it will always default to French.Not sure why the address book (child) work correctly, the parent form (formMain) will always display in French, no matter if I have set this to en-GB.I am 100% that my method is correct using what I have show you above.I was thinkng about deleting the formMain and creating a new one. But that would mean doing everything again and would take too long.
Is possible to have different values of combobox on the multi same form?
Actually I want to make a multi same form, but with one combobox to set the authority. When different persons to use this same form, I will have different selection limited on this combobox,
I don't know if is possible to make multi-form with vb.net & access.
I don't have code from now.
Actually I want to make a project, to assign a new form (one form with one table) to a new person for each time, it will be multi-form with tables, right?
How do you to make a new forms with tables?
This project is about the admin to assign the jobs to managers, so the managers will use same blank new form and to manage jobs, it is the room setting for multi-manager.
Can I save values from the multi same form? How?
Sample:
on this form - one datagridview, one textbox, one combobox.
how to do this, but I do not get ANY of them. I just want to know how to convert a multi-form project into one EXE file. I have 2 forms, but I want to know if there's a way to have only 1 EXE file.
View 5 Repliesi have a function to export data with some loops now the problem is that when he is exporting the data the program stop responding and only respond when the job is done, and i need a option to cancel the job when it is running but the problem simple block all forms that is opened how can i creat some multi task for fix that problem?

View 2 RepliesI got a very simple question regarding resizing listview columns. I have a form with a listview anchored to it (top, bottom, left, right). The form is resizable and the user will be able to resize the listview columns manually. However, I need the listview to resize its columns automatically when the form is resized (especially when its maximized).
But, I don't want all the columns to resize, only the ones I choose. For example, the listview will have 6 columns in total (0-5). When the user resizes or maximizes the window, I need only columns 2 and 4 (or columns 3 and 5 or columns 1 and 5) to resize. Now, I have come up with two pieces of code as listed below.
Code Part A: The following code only resizes one column. When the form is maximized, only the column ID provided will resize and fill the rest of the control. It works perfectly but I need to be able to resize multiple columns (as explained above):
Public Sub lvResizeSingleCol(ByVal resizeColumn As Integer, ByVal listViewName As ListView)
Dim w As Integer = 0
For column As Integer = 0 To listViewName.Columns.Count - 1
If column <> resizeColumn Then
w += listViewName.Columns(column).Width

I thought Me.Close() works, but hey I'm a noob at this. Right now I'm using:
Form2.Show()
Me.Dispose()
Me.Close()
but now that I've published it, I have to pull up my task manager and do end process to actually close the app. This wasn't a problem until my office started using a public drive and everybody was using the program at once. An error popped up saying that the connection string wasn't initialized, but it worked on the computer that opened the app first. Maybe the real issue isn't properly closing the form, but that is annoying that I have to use my task manager to close my app.
1. how to save the multi same form values with vb.net & access?
2. One of the combobox - room names (computer center, first meeting room, second meeting room, etc) on this multi same form, but it is limited from the admin, actually,the admin will assign the room to the manager to set the room. (I will do this room names combobox from the other table binding.) My question for this, is possible to have multi same form, but with different combobox values for each manager?
I have made a windows forms application with a user login which queries a sql server database located on a central server. It currently has one sql server login which it connects to using a connection string in the app.config file. The user login is validated by querying a username table in sql server. I would like to make this a multi user application where after the user logs in, their credentials are stored and used by the the application to access the database with a sql server login. There will be 5-10 users.
View 3 RepliesIm having trouble passing a value from one form back to another using a listbox... The user clicks a button in the main form to bring up an instance of another form (form2.show). In that form, the user then then selects a number 1-5 and then presses done:

Is there some way of programtically changing the culture for a multi form application on startup so that the application will interpret date formats correctly. For example if the aplication runs on a machine with a en-US culture it would be able to take a date from a database in the MM/dd/yyyy format and convert it to a date object and when the same application runs on a en-GB machine it can take that same MM/dd/yyyy date and convert it into a date object without getting a date format exception.
View 4 RepliesI am working on a project that requires the use of multiple tabs, but the problem is all my codes/layouts so far has been on a single form. How easy would it be to transfer the existing codes and layouts on a single form to a multi-tabs environment ?
View 4 RepliesI am usng a multi threaded process to fire off a task, but when it is completed I want to make a label visible on the main form (form 1), eg "process completed", however the code I have in place comes up with the following error message;
Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'lblCompleted' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
how to redirect outputs from console to a window form text box,but the console application I'm using is always running real time, thus my .net application hangs until I close the program that is read real time.The code displays the application to a 2nd form with a textbox multi line. Until I close that my entire program hangs and the console application monitored runs.
How do I code it to:
1. Run real time without hanging the entire program.
2. the console app must run at all times. (figured how to hide/ and no window created for it)
Sub Console()
Form2.Show()
Dim myCon As New Process
myCon.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False

On each of my form I have put an 'Exit' button. When user clicks it, another form is displayed (I don't want to use 'MessageBox') asking user whether he really wants to quit. If user clicks yes the form closes. If user clicks no, form is redisplayed.
However, out of 4 forms only one form refuses to redisplay. The code is exactly same on all forms. I have included 2 Express 2008 projects showing one form each in the zip file apps-ssk.zip
I'm upgrading a project from VB6 to VB2008.I have a routine that clears a combo box, named 'cmbDataTable' which could be on any form. I pass the form and the combo box is cleared.
[code]...
I assumed it would be the same in VB2008 but I get the error.'cmbDataTable' is not a menber of 'System.Windows.Forms.Form'I am working my way through the project, first updating the global procedures - this is one - I haven't written the calls so cmbDataTable doesn't yet exist.
In VB 2008, I have a Parent form with a combo box on it. There is a child form also with a combo box on it. I want to be able to change the values on the child form based on what the user selected from the main form. The user launches the child form from a toolbar on the Parent form. The following code is run:
[Code]...
What I want to do is if the Parent's combo box has "Red", "Blue", "Green" values and the user selects "Green", the child form's combo box(With the same values) will also change to "Green". (I do not need to change the Parent form if the child form changes.) I've tried changing the Child's combobox from the combobox's change event on the Parent form, and the code runs, but nothing changes on the child form.
I am using vb.net 2008 i have been using a mdi form which is the startup form for my prog. and i have a main menu on that form. now i would like to shift to tree view as my client has asked for it. whenever a node is selected i can select the form corresponding for that particular code. everything is fine till here. but when the form is loaded the tree view is coming on top of the form the tree view is docked in a pannel. now i have tried everything treemenu.sendtoback and the say the form to b called is taxtypemaster then taxtypemaster.bringtofront but still the tree view is coming over the form
I have tried the following :
Dim mMenuSelected As String = e.Node.Name
Select Case e.Node.Name
[CODE]...
Even the visible doesnt work as it seems after the .show it makes the tree view visible again. how do i hide the treeview pls. someone guide me at the earliest. i feel it is not the prob. of treeview but something to do with the mdi form am i right ?
I need to know the proper way, or maybe I should say, the different ways to call another form from a parent or preceding form. I am currently using ex: formname.showdialog() to call my next form, but I am uncertain if I should be using that in every situation. [code] Whats the difference between these different methods? (ex: .showdialog() , .show() )I tried both of these to open a temporary form to retrieve a persons name from a database, so as the users progresses through my training program they can keep track of their scores.But, I also call other forms as I branch through my program, from the main page, to a secondary page, to a testing page, to a results page and then back to the secondary page
View 5 Repliesi am having an issue populating two combo boxes on form load. The program will connect to an access database and pull data as instructed. Then as it pulls each record it puts it into the combo box.
This was working.. atleast i think it was. i dont recall it ever not working, however i wasn't looking for it.
My problem is that if when i load the MDI parent form and have it skip the selection form and the login form and load the next form in the sequence, it loads everything perfectly. However if the select form is loaded first, then the login form and then the form i need loaded, it will not populate. The only difference between the two different loads is that the login form calls a function that loads the form as a new project.form
I did this so that I can have multiple forms open at a time. I am assuming my problem is that I need to get the child forms handle then populating controls using that handle? but i think if I had to do that then I would beable to populate the comboboxes on the first form load using the login method of opening the form.
Here's my code.
vb.net
Private Sub frmLine1t5_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Me.Text = "Line " & LineNumber & " Test Form"

I'm adding multi-threading facilities for the first time. I have a function that is wrapped to be run in a separated thread. This function retrieves data (text) from a combobox and it works for sure without multi-threading.
When I call it as multi-threaded, I get the following error when I try to retrieve the data from the cmobobox: Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'cmb1stBL' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
It looks like a restriction of thread-safety... I assume that the child thread cannot read from his parent, to make sure that he doesn't change his parent data. So how can I read the data from the combobox? Should I read the comoboxbox data before calling the child thread?
When I use
Me.Close()
Form1.Show()
It closes the whole app.
How would I change it so that it only closes the current form while opening a new one? EDIT: I put [Not Resolved] Because I accidently pressed the resolved thing
I have a MDI form containing 2 other forms that I first created via GUI and than manually added to the MDI form.Form1 = MDI formForm2 = Form containing a WMP and buttonForm3 = Form containing a butoon. This form's opacity is set to 50%, to make it semi invisible.My MDI Form looks like this
Public Class Form1
Dim f As New Form2
Dim g As New Form3

I have one form, which the user enters upto 5 websites then clicks go - I have on the second form, the one with the webbrowser. timer which checks if the web browser is busy then either a green light or black image will be shown along side the assocaited input box on the first form. I am finding it impossible to feed variables into the clock through ByVal, like I would a subroutine or function.
