It gives me "Cannot perform '=' operation on System.Int32 and System.String" error. I checked the data type of "ID"(int), "Microscope"(Varchar), "Magnification"(int) and "Calibration"(Decimal), and they are fine so far as I know.

Code:

Unauthorized Access Trying To Change Remote Registry On Xp Machines?

May 4, 2011

I'm trying to write a console application that can modify registry subkeys on remote pc's in the same network. I have it working in my own environment but when I install on the customer machines I'm getting unauthorized access when it hits the OpenRemoteBaseKey. The security settings in the application properties is set to full trust application so I'm not sure why it won't work.

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and first I just installed it on the customer machine and when it wouldn't work I ran the source code in Visual Studio 2005 which is on the customer machine but got same results.I can run the app directly on the remote machine and it will change the registry subkeys as directed, I just can't do it remotely. RemoteRegistry service is started. Both machines are logged in as administrators.

Here is the source code:

Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic
Imports System
Imports System.IO
Imports System.Security.Permissions

Error: Mscorlib: The Requested Operation Cannot Be Performed On A File With A User-mapped Section Open

Apr 6, 2012

I've written a VB.NET program for a client that stores all of its data in XML files. I use the XMLReader to read the data into a dataset. When I run the sub to encrypt the XML file, I'll get the following message: Error: mscorlib: The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open.

It doesn't happen all the time, so I know it does work. But on occassion, I'll get this message. I've been all over the forums and I've tried everything I've read to try and stop this error.

I close the reader object and set it equal to Nothing. I've even tried using DoEvents to make sure the object finished closing before running the Encrypt sub. Nothing has helped.

I develop on a x32 PC. It works fine on the development machine. But then, when the client runs it on a x64 PC, he gets these errors. Could the x64 system really be running so fast that the .Close() and the = Nothing and evern the .DoEvents() can't keep up?

Multi Threading - Perform A Specific Operation ?

May 18, 2007

I want to make an application in VB.NET and I want this application to work as follows, There will be an array of items on which I want to perform a specific operation (MyTask), with the help of multiple threads.For example, say, the array is holding 12 items in it, and I want to create 3 threads to do the work,

Thread 1: Reads the first item from the array and goes to perform the specific operation (MyTask).

Thread 2: Reads the second item from the array and goes to perform the operation MyTask

Thread 3: Reads the third itm from the array and goes to perform the Mytask.

Now once Thread 1 completes the operatin MyTask, I want to assign 4th item from the array to the Thread 1 to continue the process.Once Thread 2 completes the operatin MyTask, I want to assign 5th item from the array to the Thread 2 to continue the process and so on... until all the items from the array is processed. Also, the function taking 5 arguments out of which 4 arguments will be same. Only one argument will vary and it will take the keywords one by one as input parameter.

Unauthorized Access Error?

I had an exercise where I was supposed to have a button open an openfile dialog box, let the user select a file, then another button that would save the file with the extension ".bak". Private Sub btnSaveFile_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSaveFile.Click

HTTPRequest -- Can't Connect To Website - Unauthorized 401 Error

Jun 15, 2010

I've got a vb (desktop) app (not a web app) that needs to connect to my website, I've been told that embedding my MySQL database credentials is a big mistake for several reasons.So, I've built a web script in PHP that runs on my server called web-service.php, it's located at www.example.com/web-service.php.Now, I'm trying to connect with this code:

Code:
Dim hwrRequest As HttpWebRequest = HttpWebRequest.Create("http://www.example.com/web-service.php")
hwrRequest.Method = "POST"
Using swWriter As New StreamWriter(hwrRequest.GetRequestStream) 'POST the info

[code]....

And when I do, I get the error "The remote server returned an error: {401} Unauthorised.", but I shouldn't need any credentials to access this. I'm just trying to POST a username and password to that page and have it query the database and then get the returned content, I'd prefer to use POST than GET so you can't see the user/pass in the URL (if possible).

EDIT: I used CPanel to password protect my website so it can't be accessed, after supplying my user & pass to access it, everything works.

Cannot Perform '=' Operation On System.String And System.Int32

Nov 4, 2010

I get an error "Cannot perform '=' operation on System.String and System.Int32" on the following code:

VB.Net Code:

Public Sub board2_OnGameWon(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
If Not board2.isCheated() Then
Dim time As Integer = board2.getGameTime()' I have tried changing this to String

[code]....

The exception is in the lines where I 'Dim betterScores' above. The idea is that when the player wins a game their score is placed and held in the betterScore variable. It is then written to an xml file later on.

I have a Difficulty Menu item (System.Windows.Forms ToolStripMenuItem) containing 4 choices, 3 of them work but one doesn't. The one that doesn't work is "1.0 (Normal)" and in the Sub New is "adjustDifficulty(mnuDifficulty100)"I have copied some other subs that are associated with this code below.

VB.Net Code:

Public Sub New()
' This call is required by the Windows Form Designer.
InitializeComponent()
