VS 2008 Update Table And Ignore The Missing Columns Using The Single Dataset?

Jul 5, 2011

How can i do a workaround for this? I two databases(.sdf). Database A has table A1 Database B has table A2 Table A1 is an exact duplicate of A2 minus 3 columns My dataset(.xsd) is based off of tableA2 in Database B. I can fill all my tableadapters in Database A and all info in table A1 using the dataset. My problem lies when I do TableAdapter.Update() for Table A1(Since the dataset has the 3 missing fields) it tries to update table A1 with info that isn't there and I get an error. How can I update table A1 and ignore the 3 missing columns using the single dataset? Or is TableAdapter.Update() designed to Update the Database with all columns found in the dataset ?

Update A Single Table Of A DataSet Using A TableAdapter Without Hard-coding The Table Name?

Nov 13, 2009

I have a project which contains a large number of lookup tables, and I have all of these lookup tables represented in a single typed DataSet, which contains TableAdapters for each lookup. I've designed an editor for these lookup tables, which should allow editing of one of these at a time. My front-end is written in VB and WinForms, the back-end is a SOAP web service; I can successfully pass the changes to the DataSet back to the web service, but can't find a way to use a TableAdapter to update the single table that has been changed.

What I'm trying to do is instantiate the appropriate TableAdapter for the updated DataTable by sending the name of the table back to the web service along with the DataSet, then referring to the TableAdapter with a dynamic name. The normal way to instantiate a TableAdapter is this:

Dim ta As New dsLookupsTableAdapters.tlkpMyTableTableAdapter

What I'd like to do is this, but of course it doesn't work:

strTableName = "tlkpMyTable"
Dim ta As New dsLookupsTableAdapters(strTableName & "TableAdapter")

Is there any way to achieve this, or am I taking the wrong approach altogether? My other alternative is to write separate code for each table, which I'd prefer to avoid!

Missing Columns In A Database Table

I created a database in my project, and added a table and some columns to it. Now after making several changes to the program I decided to add some more columns, but for some reason those new columns don't show up in the SQL query builder or the database explorer. I realize that this is an oversimplified explanation

Strongly Typed DataSet Return All Columns When Selecting A Single Column?

Jan 17, 2012

I am using a Strongly Typed Dataset as DAL. I want to return a single column from my table for that i wrote the code as

SELECT DISTINCT Floor
FROM Room
WHERE (Building = @Building)

But when i previewed the data, it shows me all the columns of the table with Null Value and the column with primary key has -1 value. This condition raise an Exception when i link this query to a ComboBox ..

cmbFloor.DataSource = da.GetFloorByBuilding(cmbBuilding.Text)
cmbFloor.DisplayMember = "Floor"

Error: Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints.

.net - Does Dataset.ReadXml() Set All Columns Datatype In Its Table As String

Aug 12, 2011

Following is the code which gets xml data from web service and then dataset reads using ReadXml method. This Xml has ID and MyDate tags for each table row (so table(0) will have ID and MyDate columns) and this Xml data does not have schema associated with it. When page is loaded first time, it sorts by ID in asc order. It was working until ID was 999. When next ID came as 1000, even in ID asc, 1000 is showing before 999 in datagrid.

I wanted to confirm that when dataset is loaded using ReadXml, all the columns in its table are treated as string even they are numbers or dates and that's why in ID asc order 1000 is coming before 999.

Also, MyDate tag has date in format "01/31/2011" (mm/dd/yyyy) and it seems that sorting is wroking fine for date. Would sorting by date always work even when dataset table MyDate column is of type string (assuming that my above statement is correct)? Are my two above assumptions correct?

stream = New System.IO.StringReader(XML data returned from web service)
With dataset
.ReadXml(stream)
dvView = .Tables(0).DefaultView

How can I update local dataset with mysql database without making duplicates. Assuming I set some column in mysql as primary key, which has unique string.

So I want to update if the key column is the same with mysql data and if there is option for ignore adding new row.

Update DataSet Changes To Microsoft SQL Server Table

Jul 12, 2011

I fill table data into dataset using Adapter. How to update dataset changes back to Microsoft SQL Server Table. I refer to the following URL, the solution is working fine, it makes use of the adapter.UPDATE to get table updated with changes made to dataset. [URL]

Sample Code:
cmdBuilder = New SqlCommandBuilder(adapter)
changes = ds.GetChanges()
If changes IsNot Nothing Then
adapter.Update(changes)
End If

I would like to know is there any other alternatives besides the one I have mentioned above. Can the alternative supports scenarios such as update existing record (probably based on primary key or defined conditions), insert new record as well delete existing record.

VS 2005 Dataset, SQLBulkCopy Update Table?

Apr 25, 2009

I was wondering if the following is possible. In a particular operation I want to create a dataset, bulk copy it to another SQL Server, then update a flag column in the copied rows.I'll have a system that will be regularly inserting new rows of data, then at regular intervals want to copy that data to another SQL Server. Once the rows have copied I need to change a flag column so that they won't get copied again.Whilst this is going on there is a strong possibility new rows of data will be being inserted into the source table. These new rows will be copied at another interval.

Excel Reading - How To Ignore Hidden Columns

Aug 12, 2009

I am reading XLS files, via JET provider, using the following
Dim conString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OleDb.4.0;data source=" + fileName + ";Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1;"""
cn = New OleDbConnection(conString)
cn.Open()
da = New OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM [" & sheetname & "]", cn)
da.Fill(dt)

The problem I am facing now is that some of these excel files have hidden columns: These columns are meant to be ignored. However, the code above fills my datatable with ALL columns (hidden and nothidden). Is there any "Extended Property" that I could add to the connection string, to ignore hidden columns?

VS 2008 Multiple Tables In Single Dataset?

I am a new user. Apologies if I am posting this in wrong place and also if it is repeated one. I have few queries:

1.Is it possible to store multiple tables in a single DataSet?

2.If yes then it is a good practice? or should i prefer having separate connection object, separate DataAdapter and separate DataSet for each of the table to be accessed? I am new to VB.NET and using VB.NET 2008 Express and MS-Access 2007 as backend for my project.

C# - Ignore Dataset Schema In WCF Connection?

Nov 2, 2011

On the server side of my application I have a function like this:

public function GetDS as MyTypedDS
Dim dsRetVal as new MyTypedDS
'Make fantastic things with the dataset
return dsRetVal
end function

On the client side I call this function through a generated "service reference":

Dim ds as Reference1.MyTypedDS = myRefInst.GetDS

How can I disable schema serializaion of the typed dataset to reduce the traffic?Is it enough to set the SchemaSerializationMode of 'dsRetVal' to ExcludeSchema before returning it? Or is this option ignored by WCF?

I have recently updated my VS2010 Professional IDE to SP1.

Now the F8 key no longer provides single step functionality (nor does F11). Likewise the F5 key no longer runs the debugger. I can access these actions via mouse using the run and single step icons on the toolbar.

These very important functions have not been restored using any of the Tools|Options settings that I have been able to find.

I have attempted to "repair" the SP1 installation without success...with a number of errors being reported starting with an RiaServices.msi error.

And I only want to have a single row in this table. I then write the changes to an xml file. The user will edit the row in this table save the values in the settings.properties. And then when ready write the changes to the config file.

However, I am thinking is there a better way. As I have to keep removing the row that was currently added. Then create a new one.

' Add the data to the datatable and write the changes to the config.xml file
Private Sub btnWriteConfig_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
' Only create a single row. All changes must be made to this row only.
