.net - Does Dataset.ReadXml() Set All Columns Datatype In Its Table As String

Following is the code which gets xml data from web service and then dataset reads using ReadXml method. This Xml has ID and MyDate tags for each table row (so table(0) will have ID and MyDate columns) and this Xml data does not have schema associated with it. When page is loaded first time, it sorts by ID in asc order. It was working until ID was 999. When next ID came as 1000, even in ID asc, 1000 is showing before 999 in datagrid.
I wanted to confirm that when dataset is loaded using ReadXml, all the columns in its table are treated as string even they are numbers or dates and that's why in ID asc order 1000 is coming before 999.
Also, MyDate tag has date in format "01/31/2011" (mm/dd/yyyy) and it seems that sorting is wroking fine for date. Would sorting by date always work even when dataset table MyDate column is of type string (assuming that my above statement is correct)? Are my two above assumptions correct?

Dataset's ReadXML() method would read an XML document. But how would we skip certain columns? [Code] So, if I use ReadXML(), it would read the whole document and the dataTable would have "id" column, "name" column and "price" column. But I want to have only "id" and "name" column. How can I skip certain columns from reading it?
anything wrong with using datatype object and determine datatype in class property? I have a typed dataset and it has several integers columns that are null in the db. and when I make a call it throws exception.is there anythign wrong with setting it as object in my dataset.. changing the throw exception property to Nothing and passing it to my property as integer?

I have a Dataset Lets call it Dataset1. I have 1 table in this dataset created in designer called settings. I want to be able to declare the intial dataset in one form as a global variable and make a copy of it in another form. However I don't want to fill it until after I have made the copy except that it is not working.[code]The problem is the Dt returns the same amount of columns and the exact column names that I have in the settings datatable. When I do Dt.ReadXml("Myxmlfile") I don't get any rows populated yet the columns are in the xml file and in the dt copy of the datable.
How can i do a workaround for this? I two databases(.sdf). Database A has table A1 Database B has table A2 Table A1 is an exact duplicate of A2 minus 3 columns My dataset(.xsd) is based off of tableA2 in Database B. I can fill all my tableadapters in Database A and all info in table A1 using the dataset. My problem lies when I do TableAdapter.Update() for Table A1(Since the dataset has the 3 missing fields) it tries to update table A1 with info that isn't there and I get an error. How can I update table A1 and ignore the 3 missing columns using the single dataset? Or is TableAdapter.Update() designed to Update the Database with all columns found in the dataset ?
I am having difficulties with Filling a dataset. It seems to be automatically assigning a datatype to the column based off of the first field of data it finds in that column. The column sometimes contains an integer, but it may also contain letters and numbers. If the first field is an integer, it says the fields in the column that contain a letter are DBNull. I'd like for the entire dataset to be formatted as a string/text type since I do not know what the values will be that I'm importing 100% of the time. How do I tell the dataset to expect a certain datatype for all columns and rows i'm going to import?

I create one column which is tinyint then I go to VS2008 and create typed dataset by wizard. Then I check that column's datatype it is now byte datatype. MS SQL 2005 tinyint = VS2008 byte ?
I have a dataset with numerous tables.I have changed the column type of a couple of columns in the source DB form smallint to int.No I need to update the datasets (and eventually the code) to the appropriate datatype.Rather than hunt around the dataset and find all the places where these columns are referenced is there a way to direct the dataset to go back to the DB, reread the queries and update the datatypes.I know I can either change the field or one by one go to each table and force it reread the query but I want the dataset to do it in mass.
I have Dataset ds filled up with values Until now I was displaying values in GridView. Now I want that all the rows should be columns and columns should be rows.I have 2 options: Either 1 I can directly convert grid to columns and display it, or 2 I can convert the GridView to html and then write loops to convert. I have multiple datasets that I would like to combine into one. There is a common ID field that can be associated to each row. Calling Merge on the dataset will add additional rows to the dataset, but I would like to combine the additional columns. There are too many fields to do this in one query and therefore would make it unmanageable. Each individual query would be able to handle ordering to ensure the data is placed in the correct row.
For Example lets say I have two queries resulting in two datasets:

I would like to retrieve the datatype of a specific element from a SQL table. The situation is that I am importing data from a source that does not match column-to-column with my SQL table. The objective is to compare the datatype from my source file to what it MUST be when I write it to my SQL table, and throw an error on a mismatch. I have two tables Employees and CafeLogs. Some employees can be cashiers and also customers at the Cafe shop.
Table structures:
Employees: EmployeeId(PK) , FirstName, LastName CafeLogs: LogId (PK), CashierId, EmployeeId, Value, => CashierId and EmployeeId are the data from column EmployeeId of Empoyee table

My problem is with the tickets table, I have listed the user that created the ticket, the tech who will solve the ticket and a user that over sees the ticket. All three users reference the users table. So how do I can I query the tickets table and get all three users that reference the same table storing the users?

I pull a report from SQL Server being not a fan of cursors I process that table server side in my code behind file. So I pull this report that is an address label report and my client wants there to be X number of labels per person. So I coded this function:

Rather than running numerous queries in Access I am trying to write a front end for a DB2 database. The Access database is getting to a size that it is causing Access 2007 to have reliability issues and frequent compacting is required. I have created the Dataset, the Table Adaptors, and the Connection String already, but when I put in a bit of code in to fill the Table Adaptors the remote connection I have to work is going crazy (chewed up about 180MB before I realised it was pulling data from work).
Before I started the project I copied the .accdb to my local PC HDD and I pointed the connection string to it, but it still looks like it is trying to pull data from the work network. If it was a small database I wouldnt be concerned but it is pulling major data every time I run it. I have only 2 out of the 4 Table Adaptors running and it didnt fill them even after 10 minutes.
Here is the code I was trying to run... Server name has been substituted for Server for obvious work reasons.
Because the tables are so large I was looking for a way to pull only the columns I need to from the tables, I tried adding .SOFT_ID to the first line of code but the TA spat the dummy message below...
Value of type 'System.Data.DataColumn' cannot be converted to Application_Name.DS_DB2Database.Server_SOFTDataTable'.
I would also like to pull just the data columns I need to speed up the query.
Note: In case youre wondering why I am not connecting directly to the DB2 database. I currently dont know where it is stored and while leveraging Access I am trying to put a level of separation between the app and the db for the time being, later I will try connect directly.
I have a large form that is set up from master-detail datasets in Visual Studio 2008.I havene master table with a large amount of detail tables. Several of the detail tables also have detail tables linked.Now I need to add a master table that sits on top of my existing master table making it a detail table.
