I have column with bit datatype in sql server table(2008).while returing to text box its returning true in text box instead of 1.i tried converting it from true to 1 using txtboolvalue.text=Math.abs(CINT(ReturnList.Item(34)).tostring. But it doesnt convert true to 1
Secondly: im checking for columns in datatable if there are any nulls. its checking for nulls in the sqlserver table but its returning true if there is a null.i just want it to return NULL is there is null i textbox..

I have a field in a SQL Server table that is of type bit. When I try to use a Boolean in VB.NET when passing parameters to a stored procedure, there are never any matches. I have also tried passing an integer to the stored procedure and that does not work either.
View 4 RepliesI use a VARBINARY(MAX) column, because I have no idea what is going to be put into it. All I know is that as of this point in time, the data will be one of many traditional data types(Integer, String, DateTime, etc.)I also have another column that is meant to indicate the DataType so the .NET application can handle the data and validate input accordingly.Right now, for testing, I have a DataType table in my database that stores the "supported" datatypes for the VARBINARY column, and a foreign key linking to the column meant to indicate the DataType. This works perfectly, but it feels akward.
View 2 Replieshow to work with XML.I need to create an multilingual application and need to save the controls captions in sql table with xml data typei started the following:[code]I know this is not very professional but thats all i did until know in SQLNow i have a problem in VB.NET i don't know how to read an xml data type (How to get the value from variables). If somebody can give me an exmaple how to read the xml than i would continue translating for each objects in the form where name is like the variable "btnLogin" and give it the controls.text property to the variables value.

anything wrong with using datatype object and determine datatype in class property? I have a typed dataset and it has several integers columns that are null in the db. and when I make a call it throws exception.is there anythign wrong with setting it as object in my dataset.. changing the throw exception property to Nothing and passing it to my property as integer?

I'm using a 3rd party chart COM object (National Instruments CW graph) to plot data versus elapsed time. The x value needs to be a VB6 equivalent Date type which is a .NET DateTime datatype. What I need is a way to convert a TimeSpan datatype to a DateTime datatype.
Dim testTime as System.DateTime 'date
Dim plotTime as System.DateTime 'date
Dim elapsedTime as System.TimeSpan[code].....
I have a database in mysql. The column in table is of datatype time(0)
Similarly I have a control datetimepicker in vb.net I have assigned format property as custom to the control and the CustomFormat property as HH:mm:ss tt so that it can just provide the time. I dont want the date to be in it.
Issue comes when I try to retrieve the value from database I get an error as Converion of type 'Timespan' to type 'Date' is not valid
Try
Dim myCommand As SqlCommand
myCommand = New SqlCommand("select * from [HMS].[dbo].[DoctorSchedule] where DoctorID='" & txtDoctorID.Text & "'", Connection)

I have Informix Dynamic Server 11.50 and Informix Client SDK 3.5 installed on my server. I am developing a .NET application to read data from Informix database using ODBC functions. In the database, i have a table with columns of Serial and BigInt data types defined. My data retrieve function looks like this [Code]
I've tried to modify the columns with Serial and BigInt data types to Integer. And, everything works fine without modifying a single line of code. I do need some advice how to overcome this problem as i need the Serial data type column as an incrementing id column. For BigInt data type column, may be we can change it to column with Integer data type instead.
I am working on a produce inventory database in my VB Express program.I have a form on the bottom and a spreadsheet at the top. I want to enter all the data in the form and have that data automatically transferred as a group to the spreadshet in the upper part of the page when I press a button.I know that there's an insert function.I set it up correctly. The problem is that I have to convert the textbox, which contain string data, to the datatype used in the database spreadsheet.HOw do I use CAST or do this? Here's the function I am using:
Me.TableAdapterManager.InventoryTableAdapter.Insert(IDTextBox.Text, fruitName, unitprice, unitsize, unitIn, unitTransit, unitOut)
Evernything is a string cause the data is coming from a textbox, I need to convert it to the datatypes used in the database. Also how do I use the CAST and Convert functions
i want to convert old vb6 project to Vb.Net 2008. I converted everything except 'ANY' datatype.
View 6 RepliesHave been obsessed with DataTypes recently and would like some thoughts, etc. on the following: What's going on is when the BindingSource.PositionChanged Event fires, I capture an Integer relating to another tables Primary Key and then filter that DataTable to select the matching record.
So the focus of the question lies in the first 3 lines in the event. First example creates 2 objects, 2 lines of code. Second example does it all with one line... not sure if it creates only one object or not, seemingly not.. can't tell for sure. Which is "better"? Am I really approaching this from the right angle? Beside y'all here on this forum and Google, I'm self-taught and looking for some validation.

When x is nullable I get an error 'Overload resolution failed because no accessible ToString accepts this number of arguments'. I suppose I could copy the nullable variable into a non-nullable variable, then format it, but that seems extremely clumsy for something that should be fairly simply. Isn't there a better way?
Arghh! Copying the Date? variable into a Date variable doesn't work-Option Strict is On & that sees the two variables as being of different types. Is it really necessary to to an explicit CDate conversion on a nullable date variable?

I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.
I have simple code that connects to Sql database... (well it doesn't)
VB
Dim objConn As New SqlConnection("Server=localhost;uid=***;pwd=***;database=***")
objConn.Open()
ERROR MESSAGE:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)But looks like something is wrong with "localhost" thing. Any help? Where can I get name of (my) server?
We are currently using Access 97 as our database. This resides on the remote farm server (which is a Windows 2008 R2 server). We are using a front end vb6 exe which accesses the back end data.Occasionally we are getting corruption to our database and we have to make sure everyone exits the software to allow us to repair/compact it. There are 2 physical servers, each running 2 virtual machines. When the user logs onto the farm using RDP, they go to one of these 4 virtual machines. We are getting all kinds of corruption, some where # characters have been inserted into the top of one table, some where the indexes are corrupted, and some where access needs to repair the database.
View 1 RepliesWe recently upgraded our job server to Windows Server 2008. We have jobs we run manually in a folder (c:Custom Programs). Some programs are console programs others are have a gui. This one program has a gui.It also has a progress bar that shows the progress of the job when you click the go button. Of course it spawns a thread to do the processing. This thread creates a log file to write errors and other things too.
The problem is when the program goes to create the log file an access not authorized error is thrown. I checked the permission on the folder. All users are allowed to create/edit/append/execute. Pretty much everything except take ownership. Also, there's nothing that denies anything. So I see no reason why this isn't working. We can get this to work by using the run as administrator option when we first run the program. However, we don't view this as unacceptable solution. My only thought is the spawned thread isn't getting the same permission set as the program. Am I correct or does something think it's something else.

View 1 Replieshow to create a client/server... But I couldn't... I don't want anything fancy. Just want the client to send the server 4 numbers, depending on the user's choice; after that, the server would turn off the pc, restart it, etc. It all depends on the number received. Is there a rather "simple" way to do it? If it's not to much trouble you could use Atheist's example. (Btw I don't understand the code and, yes, I've checked on [URL])
View 9 RepliesI'm using SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 with .NET Framework 3.5. I'm teaching myself and this my first time posting a question here. And I was wondering if someone could clarify something for me.I've created a table called Classes. One of the columns is called Enrolled and is of data type tinyint (0 to 255) since the class will never have more than 50 students enrolled. In my application I created an object called ClassInfo and declared a private variable ..private _classAmt as byteMy question is this..What if someone wants a total of students enrolled for that year? Do I need to convert to a larger data type such as int32 or would it be better to set the data type as Integer in t
View 1 RepliesI have a window application created in VB.net 2005 and the backend is sql. I make a call to the database and it returns a datatable. When I loop through it, I get a value of -1 for my field "Rush" which is a bit datatype. when I pass the sql into the analyzer, I see the value should be a 1 so not sure why it's giving me a -1. I have the following line of code:
CType(IIf(CBool(product.IsDiscontinued Is Nothing Or product.IsDiscontinued = True), False, True), Boolean?)
What does the Boolean? mean at the end. I have seen it used on other data types as well.
