Unable To Access Oci.dll Due To Application Type

Oct 5, 2009

I am using attempting to create a connection to an Oracle database via entity framework in Visual Studio 2008. I am running 64 bit Vista Ultimate. At first, I had difficulty even making a connection to the db through Visual Studio, but eventually got things working by installing 10204_ vista_ w2k8_x64_production_db AND ODTwithODAC1110720, but only the minimal parts needed to interface via Visual Studio.I am completely new to this setup, so it's likely I have already made a mistake, but installing both packages is the only way I could create a connection via Visual Studio.I made the connection, and used the wizard to create a . edmx file. The model and associations were created perfectly, and I thought things were going to work well. I used the default name "Entities" as the reference name.[code]How is it that I can connect to the oracle db at every point except when I'm running the application?

Microsoft Data Access Application Block Date Type Precision?

Jul 13, 2009

We are working on an ASP.Net/VB.Net application using Enterprise Library for our data access (DAAB).

We are trying to store DateTime values in an Oracle Date field. However, the precision is being lost. Currently only the year, month, and date are being stored. We need better precision than this.

Oracle Dates are supposed to "includes not just the month, day, and year, but also
the hour, minute, and second. "

.net - Using MS Access Database As A File Format For Desktop Application Needing Open / Save Type Functionality?

Oct 29, 2010

This is probably a pretty novice design question. I'm trying to work my way through a number of requirements and give the users the experience they're looking for.I've written a tool that does big calcluation-type things. It currently consists of a class library and command line tool (separate .NET projects.) We're using an Access database format as the file type because it can keep all the various tables together in one file. A few other items about the application: There are not many users. There are no concerns with scalability. There are not great concerns with updates. Desktop is desired. Not web.Using VB and .NET 3.5 SP1

I now need to develop a GUI front end that will allow typical File/Open and File/Save type operations.Users expect that they can open a file, edit it some, then either choose to save it or close it unsaved without any changes being written back to the file. Saving it would obviously save all changes affecting all tables back to the file.

Does it then make sense to use a temp file for something like a proxy then? To, when a user "opens" a file, copy the source Access file to a local temp file and then use that for the editing session? Then, if the user "saves", copy the local temp file back to the source path?

Update: [tagged with ms-access tag too] Also, I omitted the fact that users would expect typical File / Save As functionality too. I think the design I've put in question in this post is what is traditionally called the Proxy design pattern. Has anyone tried this (successfully!) with Access database files before? Words of caution or advice?

Access Database Engine 2010 Crashes Application

Apr 8, 2011

I have a vb.net 2005 application that connects to an access database. I use Access Database Engine 2007 to connect to to this database.

Everything worked fine until i install MS Office 2010. After this, the application started to crash, returning the error 'application has stopped working'.

I've a Windows Seven Enterprise SP1 32bits.

When i debug the application, visual studio also crashes. I get the following error, closing an OleDbConnection: 'vshost.exe stopped working'.

I decided to run some tests. I installed my application on 2 virtual machines: a windows xp sp3 and a windows 7. When i installed ACE 2007 everything worked fine, but when i installed ACE 2010, thats when the problems began. This behavior ocurred on both machines.

Import Access Database Into 2010 Application And Then Refer To It Locally?

Oct 6, 2011

I am writing a program for a class and it needs to read/write to an Access 2007 database. Right now I am referring to it's absolute path when I use it in connection strings, something like:

Dim conn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:UsersMeDocumentsVisual StudioProjectsProject1Database.accdb")

This is going to be a problem when I turn it in obviously, because the professor isn't going to have the same path. So I want to somehow include it into my project and then refer to it with a relative path or something so that it will work on his machine. When I imported it through the Data Sources it had an option at the end to copy the database into the project which I agreed to. It put the Database where all of the source files are on my computer, so I tried using Application.StartupPath(

Project Using VB And A Database In Access - Check If My Application Requires Access To Be Installed Or Not?

Feb 16, 2012

I'm using VS 2010, and I did a project using VB and a database in Access. The problem is that when I try to put that "application" on other computers, sometimes, is not working. I thought it can be because on these computers they don't have access, but on one computer, is running another app which is using Access and there is no Access installed. How can I check if my application requires Access to be installed or not?

Here is a example of how I did the connection:

Public AccessOLEDBConnString= "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & myfullpath & ";Jet OLEDB:Database Password=password"

Function getConnection() As OleDb.OleDbConnection

[CODE]...

And when I want to have access at the data I'm doing like this:

dim conn as Oledb.OledbConnection

dim sql as string

dim ds as Dataset
