Namespace testing
Public Module TestModule
Public testobj As New test
End Module
End Namespace
It is extremely annoying to have to start out two tabs to the right on new code. Is there anyway to disable auto-indenting just for namespace declarations in visual studio 2008?
This might be crazy but can I (well I know I can do this first part) and create a folder in my Solution Explorer and put classes in there, just so my main form is kept clean, as I only have a couple of forms but there is a lot of code.I thought I would call a class "Panel1_Work" and have all the panel one stuff go there, i.e I have a code which is going to sort a datagridview but i'll write my own function or sub for this as it will be getting called from a few different places.
View 1 RepliesI am working on a solution that does not name namespaces in code files. Instead it uses the root name space of the project (which is the same across all assemblies). Basically there is only one implicit namespace.
Well, I am trying to isolate some code so that I can run FxCop against it. I explicated named the code file with a namespace to do this. This works for FxCop, but it bricks the entire solution.Visual Studio is now asking me to prefix all uses of the implicit namespace with Global. So instead of:

I am looking for a method to monitor a large group of folders and to rename files with a certain file extension automatically.
View 1 Replieshow I can make my Application to automatically create preset folders with files when installing the application? The files should be under user/documents/MyApplication/Newpresetfolder
View 5 RepliesHow can I structure my classes so that the user interfaces though a single class while the supporting classes are hidden from their view? I think its best understood in an example:
Public Class MyInterface
Public Economic as EconomicClass
Public Sub New()
MyBase.New()
[code].....
So you might ask why am I even separating them? It's strictly for others who will be working with this interface. I need to funnel them though a logical structure:
interface.Economic.MyMethod
interface.Currency.MyMethod
etc
This way everything is already handled for them in the background and they only need to run the method they need. I don't know if I can have it both ways in VB.NET.
Here is some example code of what I mean:
vb
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender as Object, e as systemEventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
[Code]....
I have two XML files.
Consumers.xml
<consumers>
<consumer>consumer1</consumer>
[code].....
I have a bunch of images loaded in as resources then i added a mediaplayer.resx file so i could keep the images separate... only now i have just discovered it doesnt? It still puts all images together, so i cant add multiple images with the same name? (needs to be the same name - its a filename)
how to add folders and images right into the project explorer.How do I then reference the images? are they just like files? so it would be app pathfolderimage.png ? WIll it add to the distibution like this?
At my workplace, we're having troubles with Windows 7. Folders that are supposed to be in the libraries (e.g. Documents Library) aren't appearing. While we sort the issue out via Group Policy, I'd like a "DIY fix" that people can run and keep working instead of flooding IT support with requests. From snooping around, I've found that the folders are stored in an XML file here:
[Code]...
I can edit it by hand or programatically, but there is a node called <serialized> which is a long string of alphanumeric characters. It's not necessary (I can manually add folders without this and it works fine) but I was thinking there must be a better way to go about this, so my question is:
Is there a VB.NET function or class that lets me add and query folders in the library without manually creating the XML and inserting it myself? I'm happy to do it myself, but if there is a better way to go about it, I'm all for it!
I would like to import System.Data.OleDb to my list of references, but it won't let me, I can't find it on the list but it's obviously there cause I can type olede.oledbparameter.
My list shows
System.Data
System.Data.DataSetExtensions
System.Data.Entity
System.Data.Linq
System.Data.Services.Client
System.Data.SqlXml
I can't find System.Data.Oledb. Now, I did a "hack" job and got it added, but I couldn't figure out how to do it with the GUI. I edited the .proj file with notepad and added it manually.
How can I add it with the GUI?
Steps:
Clicked on Project
Clicked on Add Reference...
Clicked on .Net, Com, Projects
Couldn't find it on either of those lists.
This is somewhat of a multi part question, let me start off by explaining what I'm trying to do. I have an organized folder system with data files in them. Each folder has a set structure to their naming, and can contain sub folders and files. It will be a jagged directory system. I'm trying to import their structure into a TreeView. I have the workings of a recursive system that adds all files and folders into a ViewTree, however they aren't organized by parent/child.
So I get this...
-C:Temp
-C:TempData
-C:Tempfile1.txt
-C:Tempfile2.txt
-C:TempDatafile3.txt
-C:TempDatafile4.txt
etc........
How would I go about parsing the directory paths, and include them into a parent/child relationship... looking like this
+Temp
--file1.txt
--file2.txt
-+Data
---file3.txt
---file4.txt
Also I when the line item is selected, I need to know which file is selected so I can use it's full path to call up data (using an API) based upon the it's full root path.
Is it possible to define operators like addition, subtraction and such to classes? I'm trying to convert a vector class from C++
class CVector2
{
public:
float x, y

I want to be able to add a folder (and inturn, all of it's contents including subfolders) to a setup project. I can manually add a folder, then manually add all of the files for that folder; but this is a NetHelp folder with lots of subfolders and files.
Is there a way to tell the setup to add everything in a folder to the setup files to be distributed??
is there anyway we could extend a shared function for a class? example:
<Extension()> Public Shared Function GetName(ByRef e As [Enum], ByVal value As Object) As String
Return [Enum].GetName(e.GetType, value)
[Code].....
however i dun hav a choice as Extension methods can be declared only within modules
I have a List(Of SomeClass) containing a number of SomeClass items. SomeClass is just a small class with two properties, a Name string and an Int integer:
[Code]....
I have a directory structure as follows;
ad_folder
--folderA
--folderB
--folderC[code]....
at I do not know the number of or the names of the folders, they can be different in different cases, I only have the root path.how I can display folder contents in VB.net and the code worked but couldn't figure out how to create the arrays and display only folders within folders starting with "ad_".
System.IO.DirectoryInfo and System.IO.FileInfo to be used for getting the folders.A literal control can be used to create javascript arrays in ASP.NET. These js arrays can then be used on the client side.
When adding a new item (class, control, etc) in C# it will automatically add a namespace to the file depending on the location in the project.
Is this also available for VB.NET?
The code 'Namespace DataClasses.AX' and 'End Namespace' would be generated.
Namespace DataClasses.AX
<Serializable()> _
Public Class AxInventItem
[Code].....
i have an SQL statement which i need to code in vb:
create
table r2 (salesno
bigint, prodno1
[Code]....
Note that in this "2nd loop"
- the table name is now r3 from r2 in the first SQL statement
- there are now prodno1, prodno2 and prodno3 instead of just prodno1 and prodno2
- in the WHERE clause, the p.prodNo becomes p.prodNo2
and so on and so forth.. so for the 3rd loop
- there's going to be r4
- there's going to be prodno4
- in the WHERE clause i will use p.prodNo3
what should i do? is there an array or something that i can use here?
How do I code a program that when I enter an input like 5, will will automatically generate 5 buttons on a separate form and transfer the values of another input to the buttons?
View 2 RepliesIn the early generations of VB.NET visual studio, I used to see an automatically generated region named "Windows Form Designer generated code" that includes the code that generates the controls at the surface of a form. But what happened with VS 2008, I can't see that region any more ? Where are the lines of code that are automatically generated that create controls and set there properties ????? View 2 RepliesAll fields from my class objects are added to the columns collection of DataGridViews, when the forms or custom controls that contain them are viewed within the VS 2005 designer. I haven't been able to figure out how to stop the designer from auto-adding all of the fields found within the bindingsource object.
View 6 RepliesI have a thumbnail control where I am adding Images using openfiledialog and after adding it automatically scrolls down.
So I would like to stop scrolling the scrollbar and just append the Images.
I have tried using this code:
Thumbcontrol1.VerticalScroll.Value=0
It worked fine but the scrollbar is at the bottom and it shows me the first row of Images.
And this is my second attempt by doing this way:
I have just set the autoscroll property to false and it hides the scrollbars and I'm stuck with this so how do I scroll the remaining Images?
And Is there any other method to hide scrollbars and just scroll the Images using mouse? Or any other simpler way to get rid of this?
It appears that when IO.Directory.GetFiles tries to read a folder that it doesn't have access to it throws an exception & stops reading. Is there any way to have skip those folders & continue reading the rest of the folders?
View 1 RepliesI have seen lots of examples with a treeview to list folders then display the folders context in a listview.
But what id like is a checked treeview, that not only displays the folder list, but the actually folder contents as well.
I use the code below to fill the list box and it works great. But i need it to only look in the \Software and \Software\FolderName Foldername could be any folder in the Software folder i need it to get all the .exe from software folder and only one more folder deep no more.

I need help with file enumeration. I'm trying to create a program that can list files, folders and sub folders locations in a log file for diagnostic purposes. After it searches it can open notepad and display the results. The problem I'm having is that I'm a beginner and not familiar with file enumeration.

I'm currently making a program in Visual Basic 2010 for my Course work, and I'm struggling a little as it involves a "log-in system."
The system will save the Users Information in a folder (Called UserInfo.txt) (Address, Password, Email etc..), and the folder name being the username of the User.
When an Admin wants to view or edit a User, I want the Admin to be able to select the User from a drop-down list and when selected, the information of the user loads in and is displayed in the text boxes bellow (on the same form). The Information can then be edited and Saved back to the file of that user selected with a "Save" button.
