The Code Automatically Generated By VB Forms When Adding Controls
Mar 27, 2012
In the early generations of VB.NET visual studio, I used to see an automatically generated region named "Windows Form Designer generated code" that includes the code that generates the controls at the surface of a form. But what happened with VS 2008, I can't see that region any more ? Where are the lines of code that are automatically generated that create controls and set there properties ????? This is my first post. I have just started some serious .NET programming. Can anyone help me understand what is a good, industry standard in developing the VB.NET or ASP.NET applications? Should we use the Automatically generated code by the VStudio or we should be coding manually i.e. handling the datasets, populating the controls etc instead of using the automatic generated code using wizards.
I have started with a small project in VB2008 Express which grew to a complex application. I have deployed the application recently discovering it is rather small, and the major issue is that code-generated controls (checkboxes, comboboxes, textboxes) are not displayed as during development. I have declared the code-generated controls in the declaration region, and there are about 250 controls. According to user selection some of the controls are added to a container panel. Now, I am concern that because I declare those as public (static?) variables, it uses much memory and causes the problem in the compiled application. Is that correct that static declared and code-generated controls uses much memory? How to avoid it ? I need the controls as public variables. Is it better to add all 250 controls on the form in designer mode, and use the property Visible (control.visible=True)?
I've got a form with a TabControl. PictureBoxes (containing thumbnails) are added to each TabPage thru a loop. A click event Handler is added for each PictureBox. When a PictureBox is clicked, a new form is created thru code and a PictureBox is added to it that shows the pictures enlarged. What I need is to add another Handler to the PictureBox in the code-generated form so that I can rotate the pictures because some of them (photographs) were taken with the camera at 90 degree angles from vertical. I've tried to come up with a solution but I always run into the problem of the PictureBox on the code-generated form needing to be declared WithEvents before a Handler can be added.
Code for adding PictureBoxes to TabControl: 'Variable p declared public withevents at class level p = New PictureBox img = Image.FromFile(Path.GetFullPath(picfile))
i have created my own custom propertythe property is of type collection ,it displays a form which allow the user to add a list of images and strings,it stores the data in a collection ,my problem is , i have noticed that after adding items to the collection at design time , there is no code generated in the .Designer file of the form and there for when i close the for / save it and reload it , all the items that i added to my custom property are gone.my question , what did i miss here ? how do i make my custom property generate code at the .designer file for the items i have added to my property?
I use the code about video capture of this site, it ran very well ! VB Helper: HowTo: Capture video from a video device such as a Webcam with VB .NET But I want to change the interface of form then after I customize my new one with button, picturebox (with the right name), copy the code again except this paragraph #Region " Windows Form Designer generated code "
when i click the search button in form1, form2 appears.i get the information i want from form 2 and store it in a variable.when i close form2 and form1 is active again i want this code to run automatically:
Me.userIDsearch = frmUserSearch.NuNameTB Try 'TODO: This line of code loads data into the 'SoftwareLookupDataSet.tbl_software' table. You can move, or remove it, as needed. Me.Tbl_softwareTableAdapter.Fill(Me.SoftwareLookupDataSet.tbl_software)
[code]....
how would i get the above code to run when the focus is back on form1?
just wondering if it is possible to add a method to all forms in my project without having to do it on one form and Inherit all my other forms from that one
I am working with my project and I have difficulties in my program. This is the set-up: I put a textbox1 and a button1 in the form, textbox1 is for the property of the label text to be add when I click the button1 I have another textbox, label and a button,I want the added button to remove the textbox, label and if possible the button itself, is there a way to delete a control by the added button?
I'm trying to add a DataGridView to a Split Container Panel. I am able to add the control, but it just places it on top of the old one. What I want is to add it below the existing one. How to do it.
I am developping a VB.net application. I would like to add buttons on the MDI but every time I open a child form of the MDI, it appears down the buttons. Is there any way I can solve this problem?
I am trying to create and remove a series of controls programatically. The user will have a numeric updown to pick a number. The program will then create a bunch of duplicate controls based on whatever number they pick on the fly.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub NumericUpDown1_ValueChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles numberDebts.ValueChanged[code].....
The creation part works just fine.As the number is toggled upward a new label is created. However whenever I remove labels it acts very strangely. The first time I bring it down it works just fine. Then the next 3 do nothing but the 4th removes another line.I can also toggle back and forth and it will eventually remove the label. So for example.
Starts with 1 selected - 1 label visible (1) Change to 2 - 2 labels visible (1-2) Change to 3 - 3 labels visible (1-3)[code]....
If I toggle back and forth between 2 and 3 eventually label 4 will go away.I want only 1- my numeric up down value to be displayed and have everything else after that removed.
What I am trying to do is create a form in code that runs while the BackGround worker is running.I created a form the normal way with a label and progress bar but I want to update the label with what is going on in the BackGround Worker.Doing it the standard way isn't updating the label on the form.So my next idea is to create a form in code which I have done, but now I can't remember how to add controls to that form at runtime. Here is the code I have so far.[code]So from here I have tried the CreateControl() and the Controls.Add() and neither one is working for me.
I have forms with multiple pictureboxes, labels, etc. They are all numbered, for example, pb_QL01 to pb_QL99, or lb_Main01 to lb_Main29. In the old days, I could reference the properties of these in code using, for example, Me.Controls(a).Image where 'a' was the string of the name of the object (e.g. "pb_QL23"). So, I get it that you can't do this anymore in QB2008 (too bad). I need to set the properties in loops. [Code]
but it takes a long time to cycle through all of my controls, and there are some properties that will not work (like mycontrol.image), image not an option. So, is there an easy way to get this done? I don't want to add the controls in code, since they already exist on the form. If I have to use collections (which I'd prefer not to if there is an analogous way to the old way of passing the name of the control in code with a string, but if I need to, how do I get this to work.
Identification (Parent table) ID# (Primary Key, auto increase) First Name
[Code]....
I am placing this three tables in three tabs by a tabcontrol. If I put two child tables in dataGridView in their tab, the insert(new record)/update to the tables works very well. When I put the child tables in details View, I can't get a new record updated. The problem with details view is that there is no AddressID and VehiclesID generated. In dataGridView, these IDs are automatically generated whenever a mouse enters into a cell in a row.
The primary key of the table is generated automatically using the Is Identity and I want to update based on the primary key. There is certainly something wrong with the following code, so I'd like someone to modify it for me.
Try Dim qry As String qry = "Update StudentDetails.Programmes set Programme=@Programme,Form=@Form,AcademicYear=@AcademicYear,Class=@Class where ID=ID" cmd = New SqlCommand(qry, cn)
Firstly I apologize as my question may seems repeated to you. But I am sure the details will not. I am writing a VBScript in VB.Net to automate some operation in SAP. The script is recorded from SAP. All I need to do is to put this script under a button click event on vb.net. I have done this far. But get stuck at one point. While doing the execution of the script, SAP displays a Message Box with two button labeled "Redetermine" & "Cancel" and I have to Click on "Redetermine" button to make the script run further.
The number of appearance of this message box is not fixed. Some times it appears twice and some times more than twice. My question is "How can I detect the Message Box from my VB.Net application and automatically click on the "Redetermine" button if the message box appears"?
I have a code that dynamically generates some pictureBox-es. What I want to do is to save them so that they will aslo appear the next time the application is opened. Also i don't want to use an external configuration file so that the controls are generated on file-read. Also I also have some controls that are generated by the designer
In my application I'm dynamically generating multiple rows of dropdowns and populating it with the field names based on the selected table value. Based on the field name selected I want to display a tool tip containing the selected field data. how I can use the tool tip for dynamically generated columns.
i'm worried about doing this since my changes will be overwritten when the dbml file is auto generated again (as they often are).i'm thinking of doing a partial class and writing out the same properties to annotate them, but worried that it will complain about duplicates, and the reason i can't even experiment brings me to the second part of my questions...
that, the expandable arrow on my dbml file listing is missing, right clicking and selecting "View Code" just displays an empty partial class as below.
The code generator creates code with references to a component I am using, before it's dependent components (datasets) are initalized. Although I can correct this by editing the form.designer.vb file, everytime I make a change on the form the code is re-generated in the wrong order. Where does VS2008 store information about the order of the components for code generation.
This Runs: ' 'AppointmentBindingSource ' Me.AppointmentBindingSource.DataMember = "appointment"
I have an asp.net web forms application. In this application, students upload assignments and submit a survey along with it. For the survey, I read values from DB and dynamically generate ASP.NET Controls like radiobuttonlist, checkboxlist, textbox on the form during gridview's RowDataBound Event. I cannot do it in Page_Init method because I create only if a user click on a specific assignment which requires a survey to be submitted.
When I submit the survey form, the survey values are not saved into database. During debugging I figured it out that the values are not available in the codebehind page. The radiobuttonlist.selectedvalue returns and I get following error[code]....
Exception is generated while adding owc11.chartspace to panel at runtime.
code is:
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop.Owc11 Public chartspace1 As ChartSpace chartspace1 = New ChartSpace Me.Panel3.Controls.Add(chartspace1)
Exception :Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Owc11.ChartSpaceClass' to class type 'System.Windows.Forms.Control'. Instances of types that represent COM components cannot be cast to types that do not represent COM components; however they can be cast to interfaces as long as the underlying COM component supports QueryInterface calls for the IID of the interface.
I have created an application that uses two forms one is displayed on a touchscreen and is a basic input form, the other is displayed on a large display monitor and is basically an information form, both displays are connected to the same pc. The program works great I have just one annoyance is if the program is restarted it displays both forms on the touchscreen and I have to drag the information form onto the big display. Is there a way to specify on load that each form gets displayed maximized on a certain screen so I don't have to drag one form onto the correct screen?
I find that 98% of the time, any work I do with a Control on a From, I do within the form's class. Visual Studio automatically declares all of those controls as Friend, but there really isn't a need.Is there a way to have Visual Studio automatically declare all controls as Private and I can expose any controls as Friend as needed?
I have a project with about 30 forms and each form has about 30 labels from DotNeBar (its a controls suite). If in the future I decide to change that suit for other, how can I replace the DotNetBar labels with the ones of the new suite? In other words, how can I replace a bunch of controls for others automatically?
I know that when I add things to the designer in Visual Studio, it has to be generating code for them somewhere. Where do I find the code that Visual Studio creates when I add controls, change properties, etc in the designer?
