View 4 RepliesI am using VBNET2008 to develop Window Application. I was requested by Business Analyst to create a MultiDimensional Array containing CustID(Integer) and CustomerName(string). I do not know how to declare the MultiDimensional Array VARIABLE as Integer and string.
View 2 RepliesI need to dynamically create some sort of 'table' on my form. It should look like:
PIC1 INTEGER1 TIME1
PIC2 INTEGER2 TIME2
PIC3 INTEGER3 TIME3
On top of that it should look like a table and have gridlines between the 'cells' containing the picture/data, which makes it even more difficult for me. Before, control arrays were quite simple in VB6, but I've been searching for 1,5 hours now and I can't figure out how to do this in VB.NET 2010. Any idea how to tackle this the most efficiently?
I'm trying to create an array of DataGridView rows using this
Dim rows As DataGridViewRow() = Nothing
Me.DataGridView1.Rows.CopyTo(rows, 0)
But it gives me this error:
Value cannot be null.Parameter name: dest
How can I make a control array? Or the equivalent.
I am used to Visual Basic 6 which presents the option of whether to create a control array when I copy and paste and control.
I have been using adodb as my database connection to mysql from vb.net, now I want to know if i can create a query string with 2 separate query like so:
vb
dim querystring as string
querystring="update table1 set columname = 'value' where columnname='value';update table2 set columname1 = 'value1' where columnname2='value1'"
Then I can include that to my recorset:
vb
dim rs as adodb.recordset
rs = new adodb.recordset
rs.open(querystring,con, ADODB.CursorTypeEnum.adOpenDynamic, ADODB.LockTypeEnum.adLockOptimistic)

I'll try to explain what i'm doing here, i wan't look through a text file, adding certain lines to an individual array element. So i want to build an array with mcode, mTitle, mCredits, mSemester, moduleStats, currentYear <--- this information as an array element. So here is my attempt at the code,
Dim sr As StreamReader = New StreamReader("datasource.txt")
Dim line = sr.ReadLine() ' get each line and store it
Dim currentYear As Integer

I'm using WinPcap to capture incoming data. Basically I'm dealing with a continuous stream of incoming data, either as byte array or as memorystream (pieces up to 64kb).
I need to check this data to see if there's a certain url and then extract it.
The url I need to find looks like this:http://201.122.38.5/data/today/798572987-589571?139805890582 The length of the 'code' after "/today/" is always the same. The IP address changes. What's the best/fastest/most efficient way to continuously check these byte arrays or memorystreams and extract the urls without hogging the CPU too much?

below is a byte array to string encoder. It uses the yEnc algorithm that is used for Usenet binaries (Usenet only supports text).
Doing a performance analysis in VS2010 shows that this is the most CPU intensive part of the application.
The encoder function is used thousands of times, so I'd like to optimize it as much as possible.
I'm using 'ReDim Preserve' instead of 'Take()ToArray', because I'm targeting .NET Framework 2.0. Is there a more efficient way of getting only a part of a byte array?

I can write a 1-d string array to file with:
Dim test() As String = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
File.WriteAllLines("C:MyFile.txt", test)
but can't see how to write a 2-d array to file.
I've tried this:
Dim test(,) As String = {{1, 2, 3, 4, 5}, {34, 22, 12, 33, 55}}
Dim myfile = File.CreateText("C:MyFile.txt")
Dim row, col As Integer

I'm trying to get a string from a byte array previously read from memory
i can get the string like this
dim mem as string= ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(memory) or dim mem as string= UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetString(memory) but when i try to concatenate this with another string i get a strange result dim result as string = "this is you memory string " & mem & " problem string" no matter what comes after mem in the concatenation it seems like it is not there when in fact it is because when i try this (mem has two chars in it) dim result as string = "this is you memory string " & mem(0) & mem(1) & " problem string" problem string appears so what i assume is that there are some vbCrLf chars in the string after reading (or is it from the conversion?)

What am I doing wrong or do I use a incorrect way to extract text from an array? Using += takes up a lot of computing power when it reaches like 50000 characters so I want a method with much better performance
I have a Comma Separated value file in .txt format... simply put, its a bunch of data delimited by commas and text qualifier is separated with ""For example:
"So and so","1234","Blah Blah", "Foo","Bar","","","",""
"foofoo","barbar","etc.."
Where ever there is a carriage return it signifies a new row and every comma separates a new column from another.My next step is to go into VB.net and create an array using these values and having the commas serve as the delimeter and somehow making the array into a table where the text files' format matches the array After that array has been created, I need to select only certain parts of that array and store the value into a variable for later use.... how to make the array and selecting the certain info out of it..
my code is :

I am writing an OPC Client in VB.NET (2008) and I am using an OPC wrapper from Graybox. I am having some problems with the data types. I have an Array of String that contains all of the OPC Items that I wish to read from the OPC Server. I'm trying to create a small program where someone would select one of five items from a list box (Hot, Medium, Mild, Sweet, Zesty). When they select this, they then enter in a qtyTextBox the quantity they want, ie.e, 1, 2, 3, 5,... Then they the Calculate Button, which then the total would go into the preDiscountLabel box, where it would calculate the amount they want * the sale price. Here is the Price Listing:

View 1 RepliesI need to be able to refer to a set of controls on a Windows form using an array, but I'm having a few difficulties.
The Windows form (WForm.vb) contains two textboxes (TextBox1 and TextBox2).
In Module1.vb I have created an array reference to the textboxes thus:
Public wf As New WForm
Public ReadOnly TB() As Control = {wf.TextBox1, wf.TextBox2}
Then, in WForm.vb I have tried to refer to the textboxes via the array:
eg.
TB(0).Text = "Change text to this"
I know that the array is referring to the textboxes, because when I hover the cursor over the line 'TB(0).Text = "Change text to this" ' in debug mode, I get the following:
(0)|{Text = "Change text to this"}
(1)|{Text = ""}
but for some reason, the text in TextBox1 on the form isn't actually being changed!
(There is obviously no problem with change the textbox's text at this point in the code, because I've tried substituting the array reference 'TB(0)' with a direct reference to the textbox 'TextBox1', and the problem disappears.
I need to create an Array of Labels. I am using A With Code block to set the properties of the Labels as well as the Data Binding. I want to set the LabelIndex inside this block as well. How do I go aboute this?
View 8 Repliesi want to declare an array with a name that is the value of a variable. I need to do this because i want to create arrays from a text file that i'm reading.Basically, if someone could make this work then i should be able to change it to fit my use.
Dim var1 As String = howdy
Dim var1() as Integer
In this case i'd like to be declaring an array with the name 'howdy' that stores integers. In reality i'm looping a bunch of read names and would like to create an array for each name i read- but i'm quite capable of sorting the rest.
I have an array defined As string and the value stored in site is like "7E", "A1" and so on. But in order to send out this array through serial port. I need to change the the array to As Byte instead of using As String. How can I convert it?
View 8 RepliesI've been working with a sig capture application sample on a windows mobile device, The data is sent via IP to a host as a byte array and is then drawn onto the screen of the host as it appeared on the client. I was able to get this into the form of a bitmap object so I could print it or save to a jpg file. That all works well. The problem now is that I need to store this data in a database and then be able to recall it at a later time and recreate the signature image.
The byte array data is much smaller than the actual image so I would like to store it in that form. My issue is that when I convert this byte array into a string and back again my program can no longer re-create the image. Once I saw the problem I created the code below as a test and added the msgboxes to get an idea what was happened to my data.
