Basics: Drawing Graph With Picturebox - Image

Jan 9, 2011

I am new to vb.net, from VB6. Trying to understand drawing a simple line graph into a picturebox, which was so simple in VB6 ! From code snippets, I can see the basic idea using an bitimage to draw the lines and then showing it in a picturebox. I don't understand how to (simulate) scaling of the bitmap's x/y scales like you could do with VB6's .Scale.

Change Image In Windows Forms App. System.Drawing.Bitmap In A PictureBox

Jul 19, 2010

I have a VB.NET Windows Forms app with a logo image on the form as a System.Drawing.Bitmap inside a PictureBox.I used the Visual Studio Designer to add the logo .bmp image so I don't currently have any VB code doing anything with it.I'd like to make the current logo a clickable object/button so when I click on it a file browser dialog opens and I can select a new image to replace the current image. The current image is a local resource and is set in a PictureBox as a System.Drawing.Bitmap.How would I replace that System.Drawing.Bitmap with a file selected from the file browser dialog?

VS 2010 Drawing Strings On A New Image?

Oct 18, 2010

My goal is actually very simple: I simply want a (shared) function that accepts a List(Of String) which creates an image and writes those strings (line by line) onto the image. There's a bit more to it than that, but for the sake of example this is all you need to know.Usually when drawing on an image I would create a Bitmap object and get the graphics object from Graphics.FromImage:

Dim bmp As New Bitmap(100, 100)
Using g As Graphics = Graphics.FromImage(bmp)
g.FillRectangle(...)

[code]....

Seems easy enough, but the problem is that I don't know how many strings there will be in the list, nor how long they will be. The image should 'scale itself' according to the strings in the list. If the list contains 5 strings it should be 5 strings high (plus a little extra for borders). If the list contains only 1 string it should be only one string high. Same goes for the width, if the longest string is 150 pixels, the image needs to be at least 150 pixels (160, 170 or something).

This is all good, I can get the dimensions of the strings by using Graphics.MeasureString. The problem now is that I need the dimensions of the image to create the bitmap. I need the Graphics object to get the dimensions. But, I need the bitmap to get the Graphics object I'm stuck in a loop here, if I don't have the Graphics object (I can't create it from nothing..) then I cannot measure the strings, but if I cannot measure the strings then I cannot determine how large my image will be, so I cannot create a bitmap and associated Graphics object...

Drawing On Picturebox Vs Drawing On Form?

Feb 18, 2012

I need some code to draw a resizable, draggable rectangular cursor (or selection box) on a picturebox. I found some excellent code (albeit rather old) that does just that, but on a form rather than a picturebox. I have tried converting the code - basically moving things to the picturebox events (Paint, MouseDown, MouseMove etc). It nearly works but leaves a trail behind it when you move or resize the cursor. In other words, the selection rectangle is not being erased before being drawn in the new position.

Is there some fundamental difference between drawing graphics on a form and drawing on a picturebox that would cause this behaviour? Something like, when you invalidate a form and cause a redraw it erases what you did last? If not, then I just need to dig a bit further and work out how the cursor is being erased from the previous position.

Here's the original code that works fine on a form:

Private DragRect As New RectangleF(20, 20, 100, 80)
Private Adornments(7) As RectangleF
Private MouseInRect As Boolean = False

[Code]....

I have no clue on how to get rid of it. Yes, I have made the image itself, transparent, as the initial image is transparent. Just any image that makes contact with the other images show the "box".

VS 2010 : Write A Program Which Loads A Tiff Image On Picturebox?

Mar 6, 2011

I am trying to write a program which loads a tiff image on picturebox. Then the user clicks somewhere on loaded image to set the starting x,y coordinates and clicks again to set the ending x,y point. Then clicks the run button and the starting and ending x,y points are written on label.

Just to test the program a loaded a tiff image that has a dimension of 75x75 pixels. When I click upperleft and downright corners of the image, the program outputs the coordinates as starting x,y as (103,89) and ending points as (170,157). The program outputs wrong coordinates becayse the image has 75 rows and 75 colums only. To me, it should have outputted starting point as (0,0) and ending points as (75,75).

VS 2010 Function For Changing Picturebox Background Image With String?

Mar 1, 2012

What I have done is named a bunch of picture boxes "Q," "W," "E," etc. (the whole alphabet) and named picture that correspond to these picture boxes ("Q.png," "W.png," and so on) and added them to my resources.

For example, the following code would give the picture box named "Q" it's corresponding image "Q.png":

vb
Q.BackgroundImage = My.Resources.Q

Of course, it's kind of a pain in the backside to copy and paste this code and change all the Q's to W's and so on, so I was hoping to create a function to do the job for me:

vb
Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'So that I can run the letter as a string through the function,

[Code].....

Hopefully I've provided enough detail so that it is obvious what I'm trying to do.

Obviously, the code I tried above (the second block) doesn't work - it gives a syntax error. I need to change/write to make this function functional.
