View 9 RepliesI am creating a VB 2010 program that lets your select the program(s) you want to install (chkbox) and hit run. Then have it launch the installer ( the file is across the server) and accept the predefined keystrokes to proceed through the installation process. Afterwards, it starts the next install. Below is the code that I have. What i cant get to function is the unit accepting the keystrokes, its almost as if it wont take focus ( even when i have used Appactivate and threading.thread.sleep). I have even gone so far as to identify it as a process to manipulate the thread. To be honest, i'm at a loss and need any help at all. The final sub that contains "btntest" is where I am at currently in my attempts. [Code]

I want to make an numerical integration method with takes in an analytic function and integrate it over a specific interval. For the numerical integration procedure I want to use some procedures in nr.com. The problem is that these are programmed in C++ and they uses functors to pass a function to the integration method. How can I do this in VB 2010?
I want to initialize the function (i.e. set a=1,b=0 for function y(x)=a*x+b) and then pass the function to the integration method. Then when the integration method call the function it only calls the function with one parameter (i.e. x since a,b is already set)
What is the best way to do this in VB2010?I want to make a general integration method where I can pass any single valued function and integration limits.
I have just started using VB, and from what I have found so far it seems like the tools you have is
- to us a delegate for the function
- to use a lambda expression for the function
- send a pointer/adressOf
- to create a function class/structure and submit this to the function
As for now I am most inclined to create a function-class. But I am not really sure how.F.ex. I make different classes for each "uniqe function" I want to integrate, but how can I pass them to the integration function when I need to specify the argument type in the integration-function-call?This seems like a basic problem which applies to many Math operations, so I think it would be very useful to clarify this.
I'm trying to undersatnd the syntax of calling a funciton and it seem confusing when I'm using a web service in ASP.net. Maybe this question should be in an ASP forum, but it is a VB question. This simple web service allows you to type in your name and it response with an alert box with you name.
My question is, How can you call a function with 2 arguments when the function is only defined for one. I understand that the second argument is actually a method that handling the respons, but how can you interchange function arguments for methods and how do you know that there are methods for
Here's my call:

I have a very small VS 2010 app that basically reads the records of a text file, adds some additional information to the end of the record read, and writes the new record to a new text file. The issue Im having is with the Left() function.I need to take all chars left of position 10 of a text box and add it to the end of the new record before I write it. When I use the Left() the "Error List shows an error related to this function. The error says:Public Property Left As Integer has no parameters and its return type cant be indexed. It gives two solutions: 1) Generate Method Stub Left in Project1.Form1 and 2) Generate Property Stub Left in Project1.Form1 When I select solution
1) that creates a warning indicating: Function Left conflicts with property Left in the base class Control and should be declared Shadows. When I select solution
2) that creates a warning indicating: Property Left shadows an overloadable member declared in the base class 'Control. If you want to overload the base method, this method must be declared 'Overloads.
Here is the code:
Public Class frmProcessFile
Private Sub cmdProcessFile_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles

I have a very old app that uses a little function that calculates a value and after that i get the hash code of that value, that it's used as a password to unlock some functionalities to the user. Now the manager has a 64 bits computer and the function returns a different value. What i need it's how to convert this function from C# to Vb, i know that I can use the converts, but they don't work, pointers. Code: Can I convert this function?
View 1 RepliesI have no clue how to get ScreenToClient working. I declared the function using:
Private Declare Function ScreenToClient Lib "user32" (ByVal hwnd As Integer, ByVal lpPoint As POINTAPI) As Integer
Then:
Private Structure POINTAPI
Dim x As Integer
Dim y As Integer
End Structure
[Code] .....
What I want to do is move the cursor to 29,109 of the hwnd, not my screen (hence why I'm trying to use screentoclient).
I have a group box which contains 40 checkboxes, when a checkbox is selected its content is added to a list and removed if already checked. Now I could write 40 functions one for each event (lots of code) each containing a add to the list function and a remove on uncheck, or I could use multiple handles (confusing multiple line declaration) is there another way? say my list of chkboxes had 100 checkboxes or more? can I for example use the container in some way?
View 10 RepliesI am creating an text encryption/decryption for my friend and I to use on facebook, because his parents read his messages. I made everything correctly, but when I hit the buttons they don't do anything.

Alright so basically I have created a function so it can get the data and do the following things, etc
Public Function stats(ByVal texti As String, ByVal imageURL As String) As String
Label1.Text = weapontexti
MyImage.Image = imageURL
End Function
I basically want to do something like that ^ and then be able to enter things (instead of writing lots and lots of code):This is what I want the function to do when I click a button:Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
weaponstats("Example Text", "images/etcimage.png")End Sub
Is there anyway (even if it requires something else rather than functions) to this without an error?
in the old days i could so something like
GWBasic
10 A$="ReallyLongStringInSmallSpace": B$="tiny"
20 PRINT USING" ASDFASDFASDF ASDFASDF"; A$; B$
Output:
"Re ASDFASDFASDF tiny ASDFASDF"
it would automatically truncate large strings to fit in a small assigned space, and it would use empty spaces for strings too short. it made it VERY easy to print fixed front text tables in aligned columns by automatically truncating long lines and expanding using spaces (chr 32) where needed.i've already looked at .Format but it seems just for dates, times, currencies, and various byte/hex formats.
Im making a login system that encrypts and decrypts the username and password. My encryption code is:
Private Shared Function enc(ByVal targetString As String, ByVal maskvalue As String) As String
Dim Index As Integer = 0
Dim ReturnValue As String = ""
[code]....
The enc function works for both encrypting and decrypting (I've tested with a MsgBox alert. The problem I'm having is when the program loads, it reads the file and decrypts it. However, instead of properly working, it returns one character in the first textbox and nothingin the other without any error being thrown.
I would like a script that deletes all files in a directory that haven't been modified in a week and are temporary files.

I am making a calculator that accepts large number (represented as strings) and performs basic math functions on them. So far I have Add and Multiply figured out.
Here is addition
Private Function Add(ByVal Number1 As String, ByVal Number2 As String) As String
Dim num1, num2, r, total As New Integer
Dim sum As String = ""

I saw something like this in the code bank but the examples there were from VB6(?) and were hugely inefficient (compared his Add and Multiply examples to mine, his having way more code and loops.)
In my class there's an object belonging to Process class. So, in my wrapper class, I need to get the "StartTime" & "EndTime" of the process object. I'm having confusion whether to use a ReadOnly property for this or a function returning the date, in my wrapper class
Is it a good practice to use a function for this purpose or a property ?
