View 6 RepliesI am working on a small VB application that listens for commands sent from an Android app.
One of the functions is to extract an archive. I am familiar with how to listen for the unrar process to finish, so I can display a progressdialog on the phone while the extraction is happening, and clear it as soon as it's done.
BUT ... if there is an error/alert from WinRAR, WaitForExit() never gets called because WinRAR is still sitting there open until I click "OK" on the MsgBox.
For Example ... if you try to extract a file that is not actually an archive... an alert will pop up saying "No Archives Found", and basically everything is halted on the VB app and the Android app, and the Android app just sits on a progressdialog saying "extracting..." until you manually hit "OK" on the computer.
As you can imagine, this is a problem if the whole point of your app is to NOT have to go over to the computer.
So... I am wondering if there is something similar to WaitForExit() that will wait for an error and allow me to close out the alert and let the process end.

I am working with saving and deleting images. What i really want to do is check and see if an image exists in the destination folder and if it does automatically overwrite it. i couldnt figure that out so i figured i would look to see if the file was there if it is Delete it then write the new file..The issue is i keep getting this error.The process cannot access the file "FileName" because it is being used by another process. This information is available in the Process properties popup within Sysinternal's Process Explorer. For instance, the browser that I'm using the post this message has currently used 18,521,360,165 cyles (give or take a few hundred million). Does anyone know how to get this information from a .Net app? I know how to get the CPU usage (percentage), but this isn't what I'm looking for. I need a way to compare CPU usage between two different processes running at different times.

The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).
View 4 RepliesI m using vs2008 with vb and sqlserver. I just attached a .sdf database file to my project. There is a form to insert data in products table and a dgv to show that data. Everything is working fine, i inserted the data and dgv is also showing the data. But when i tried to see that data from server explorer, thr is no data, table is blank. Then again when i run my project thr is no data in DGV also. So problem is that when i entered the data and retrieve back the data in dgv,evrythng is fine,but when i tried to see my data from server explorer, data is lost. Why data is not comtted to my .sdf ?
View 4 RepliesI have two objects - one that contains some code with will fire an event, and one that contains the handler for that event. I can't "AddHandler" in the Load of the first object,because an instance of the second object doesn't exist yet. When I raise my event, I want to check to see if a copy of object2 has been instantiated (easy to do), and if a handler has been attached to the event yet (not sure how to do this).I'm also open to another recommendation about how to do this instead. If I do my AddHandler in Object1.Load, and Object2 doesn't exist yet, then it will never handle my event, even if I create it later.Right now, in the code that fires the event, I've just resorted to doing a RemoveHandler and then an AddHandler every single time the event is raised, and then I know I'll attach when the object finally exists, but I know this is a crappy method.

is there a way to check how many delegates are attached to an event, let's saymybutton.Click has 10 handlers, 5 by using the Handles keyword and another 5 added by using the AddHandler method (well this is not the point, then point is that i do not know how many handlers there will be). and i would want to create another button that had all 10 handlers of mybutton.Click attached to its Click event as well.

I have an object that may have been inflated via a plain old DataContext, or may just have been new-ed up with just its .ID property set. There's no way to know for sure. I'm looking to rehydrate the entire object from whatever is in the database. If the object was new-ed up, I can call .Attach() on the table object and refresh from the Data Context with no trouble. But, if the object was already inflated from the DataContext I get the error: "Cannot attach an entity that already exists.". There's no timestamp field or anything like that - just an integer primary key being used to control the rehydration. I'd like to know if there's a way to conditionally attach. Here's the code - it works the way I want it to, but this seems a hackish way to go about it:

If you use the standard Serializable() attribute, and attempt to serialize a class that has events which are attached to handlers, it will attempt to serialize the handlers as well. Coming from a C# background I am not used to dealing with this problem, and the best solution I can find is using a class off of CodeProject.

I am trying to get the output of a CMD command attached to a RichTextBox control. For this sample, I am using the PING command. It works but unfortunately not the way I want it to. Instead of 'appearing' in my RichTextBox line by line, it waits until the entire process is completed and then it attachs it to my RTB.

View 1 RepliesI have a Excel - VBA problem that I can't seeem to get around. I have written some code to search through excel sheets and return the values it finds. The code is written in a module, and when I run it by clicking the play button at the top of the VB editor it works perfectly.
However I have noticed that I need to link it to a button (on_Click) in sheet1, I have tried copying the code into the button sub, it throws up an error: "Method 'Range' of Object '_Worksheet' Failed" When it gets to the 'UpCount' line. This piece of code steps across a worksheet and when a "y" is found it copies the values form a cell at the top of the worksheet (which uses the upcount formula as the cell to be copied changes), and then it also copies some values to the right of the cell containing the "y" value.This code all worked fine when it was ran from the module2 window using the play button a tthe top of the VB editor page, it is just now it is attached to the commandbutton I am experiancing problems!
Sorry I use ActiveCell as I don't really know how to use anything else! And being new at the coding game it helps me to 'see' what is going on..
