I am trying to get the handle of a window to get it's title text. I tried the WindowFromPoint, but it will get any control, not just a window. How do I get the window that the mouse is over?

I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

View 1 RepliesI have this code, which will get all windows thats open, like explorer.exe do. It will write all the titles to listbox1, like this example.I will then try to do many things, like close, minimize, maximize, and restore like this:[code]but how do I do this with the selected index in my listbox. My code must somehow get the processname, or processID from the Window-name.
View 2 RepliesI have a DLL that copies an Access database, opens it, reads it, and then closes it. The second time through it is unable to copy the Access DB because the EXE has an open handle to it. The EXE does not reference the Access DB at all, it just has the open handle because it calls my DLL. After I close the DB, I would like to terminate the EXE's handle to the Acess DB. BTS - I wrote the DLL and it is my Access DB. Another company wrote the EXE and I can not make any changes to it.

I am attempting to make a piece of software that monitors a 3rd party process for injected code. I successfully made a program that uses readprocessmemory from kernel32 to search for strings in a process. My problem is that the process I am attempting to monitor is running as system and provides an access denied message when I attempt to query any information about the process. Including process.handle and process.modules. Are there any ways I can get this process' handle?

I try to create a MDI child form that should be resizable but it should not have a title bar visible. Is it possible? Or is there a better method to display child windows within a main form than displaying other forms. In this case the panel would be visually better than the form but the panel cannot be set to act as a child like a form.

View 1 RepliesI need to make program that gets handles of two opened windows that have Same Class and Title. Only difference between them is its positions. And, after I get handles I want to SetForegroundWindow to make windows active when I need to.
My problems are:
a How to get handles of thouse windows (is it possible to do it by WindowFromPoint, since I know positions)?
b How to make thouse handles global after they are determined or pass it to the next Sub?
I have a windows application that I have created using Visual Basic 2005. I am a new user and have learned a few things, but quite an amateur! I need to printout a windows form but I do not want the form to have menu bars or borders printed. The windows form contains the data that I have updated using a Sequel Server 2005 DataBase. The form needs to be printed by clicking a Print Form Button on the form.Is this possible with VB 2005. i noticed a PowerPacks out there, but when I downloaded the tab does not appear on the VB 2005 Express Edition I am using.

View 5 RepliesI have created a Windows service in VS 2005 that monitors a folder for XML files, reads some data elements from the XML using XmlDocument, then copies the files to another location. I find that when I drop 2 or more XML files into the folder simultaneously, it processes them with no problems, but when I drop the same files into the folder one at a time, I will get an error on the second file: "The process cannot access the file <my file> because it is being used by another process." If I stop my service, restart it, and drop the second file into the folder again, it works the second time. I am confident that no other program is accessing this file at the same time as my service. My impression is that the processing of file # 1 is somehow not releasing all of the resources, leading to the processing of file # 2 mistakenly thinking that it can't access that second file.
Dim FileWatcher As New FileSystemWatcher()
It points the watcher to my folder, sets up an event handler, then enables the watching:
FileWatcher.Path = InputFolderPath

I am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!

I am working on a small VB application that listens for commands sent from an Android app.
One of the functions is to extract an archive. I am familiar with how to listen for the unrar process to finish, so I can display a progressdialog on the phone while the extraction is happening, and clear it as soon as it's done.
BUT ... if there is an error/alert from WinRAR, WaitForExit() never gets called because WinRAR is still sitting there open until I click "OK" on the MsgBox.
For Example ... if you try to extract a file that is not actually an archive... an alert will pop up saying "No Archives Found", and basically everything is halted on the VB app and the Android app, and the Android app just sits on a progressdialog saying "extracting..." until you manually hit "OK" on the computer.
As you can imagine, this is a problem if the whole point of your app is to NOT have to go over to the computer.
So... I am wondering if there is something similar to WaitForExit() that will wait for an error and allow me to close out the alert and let the process end.
Here's my Sub for the UnRar command:
Private Sub UnRar(ByVal WorkingDirectory As String, ByVal filepath As String)
Dim objRegKey As RegistryKey
objRegKey = Registry.ClassesRoot.OpenSubKey("WinRARShellOpenCommand")
