Sep 15, 2011
My project is about recipes. I want to automatically create table inside in mysql database when I hit the add button on my project through codes. First is when I input recipe name in the textbox1 then my input will be saved in the recipes table under recipe name column and also create a new table through codes on what i input in the textbox1
Example of my database in sql
texbox1 input will be save here
recipes - id, recipename
And then it will also automatically create a new table in mysql database, create newtable, with id, quantity ,unit, ingredients
Private Sub iadd()
Dim command As New MySqlCommand("insert into recipes (recipename) values ('" & TextBox1.Text & "')", connection)
Try
connection.Close()
connection.Open()
command.ExecuteNonQuery()

I've been into programming, I've landed a job with a local company, the entire project the gentleman is paying me to do is incredibly easy, with one hitch, the original project I'm converting is built using access databases, for efficiency, and easier online transfer, I'm wanting to switch to using an SQL database, I've got plenty of experience inserting, modifying, and controlling an access database, but where should I start to learn how to essentially set up, create tables, and modify data within an SQL database?

I am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?
Following is example code.
Dim
SQLconnect As New SQLite.SQLiteConnection()
Dim SQLcommand As SQLiteCommand
CODE:.....................

I'm looking for a front-end that's very simple, to access a to-be-built MySQL Database. I actually need it for only one table. I was thinking that the user could search in a way that would ask for values for each field of that table, and give the option of leaving it blank. Then, it would return all the entries that match up with the query.

I developed an application in VB.Net 2010 Express by which my users can updated the data in their offices and send XML files (total 4 xml files) for that particular date - its working fine I am getting 100's of files on daily basis to my FTP servers in a common folder.
Now i want to make an application that read those XML file at a scheduled intervals and import that to MySQL database tables. Also it should keep a log of files that has been imported in order to avoid duplicate importing of files.

Using Visual Studio .NET 2008 or 2005, is there a way to automatically generate properties for each column in an SQL Server database table? I am assuming other code-generation software exists that will do this. I know with Visio I can connect to my database and it will generate diagrams by table, this would be similar to that.

I need some expert help in achieving this task. I have an xml file which will be emailed to me everyday. I need to loop through the xml and create tables in a database based on the xml nodes and their attributes. looking at the following xml fragment for example: Code:
So based on the above xml, I would have to create a Shipment table as a Parent with fields like ShipmentIdentifier. Then I would have to create an Event table with the ShipmentID as a foreign key and fields like Source, Code. Basically a field for each node. Then if there are columns in the table that are new, I would have to modify the table and add the column. I only have to create tables where there are child nodes or where the nodes have attributes.

I'm Using Visual Studio 2005 and Mysql Database to create a windows application. The datagrid displays all the records. Since I don't know how to directly update from datagrid, thats why I have used textboxes for the respective datagrid fields. A load button is provided which on clicking puts the data on the respective textboxes. The data can be edited in the textbox. Problem is that I can't save this edited or modified data back into dattabase.

I've searched the forums but never seems to find an answer for this one.. I recently connected to MySQL database server "Automatically" in Visual Studio 2010. I want to know if there's a way to determine the connection state for "Automatically created" connections in Visual Studio 2010. I know how to do it for"programmatically created" connections but just want to know how on the auto-generated ones.

I am trying to create a button on a form that will open a connection to a database and list all the tables in the database inside a listbox. Everything I have read indicates I can associate a single table to a form, and have no idea how to:
a. Create code for the button to access all the tables in the database.
b. Display that list in a list box.
The text that I am using is murach's ADO.NET 3 database programming with VB2010, and I am less that thrilled with it.

I've written an application and I'm trying to utilise a database behind it. I've created a mysql database, and table which all appears to work correctly. I appear to have connected to the db correctly too. And hit a bit of a brick wall. As a side-note, within Visual studio connected to the database using the add data source wizard, I then dragged and dropped my db table's column onto my form that intends to display them all (6 textboxes, including primary key) and that now displays the first record of the table. It confused me, because i did this as soon as I had setup the database with no visual basic code assisting, so there wasn't even a connection string?!
One functionality i want to have is to press a button and cycle through the table's records using the form by the unique id, how would I do this? I'm essentially asking how can I enter a number in a textbox which would then return me the relevant primary key and data attached to that record.

I'm pretty new to Visual Basic, do mostly web programming in PHP/MySQL. Need to pull data from a MySQL Database using Visual Basic Program I'm making. Need to when I click a radio button, it shows in text box only the results from a table with a certain trait(as set in the database) etc. For example if an item is set to a certain category. And i click the radio button for that category it shows me only items in that category. I've attached an image of sort of what I've got. I've already downloaded the ADO connector from mysql site. I just need kind of a push from there or a link to a few really good articles. Followed a few youtube videos but I was unsuccessful somehow.

This is the error:
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond Here is the code I'm using:

I have been reading about ADO, SQL, datasets, data adapters etc and have gone into information overload. My next step is to create a simple data file of my own that I can manipulate, update, sort etc in VB Express. Do I need another piece of software? I read about MySQL, which I understand is primarily used to access databases on the net, but can that be used to create a simple local data file on my PC? Can you simply hard code something in VB Express?

I am trying to follow this userguide url... to basically build an application that will allow users to connect to my database, from an exe file. I'll try to explain as best i can. The plan is, users will launch an exe file that i have built in Visual Basic(VB) 2010 Express. When they launch the application they will see a 'login screen'.I am following the example guide (see link above), and will customise it once i can connect to the database. For some reason whenever i connect to the database it gives me two errors, the first is if i use the 'debug' mode in VB to test the script (note it doesn't produce any build errors), the second is if i build the application and run it as my users would.
1)Error Connecting to Database:Access denied for user 'mike'@'92.**.**.***' (using password:YES)
2)Error Connecting to Database:Unable to access any of the specified MySQL hosts..The ip address starred out (*) is my local machine ip address.The server is the server in which my Database runs on. 'mike' is a listed user on my 'user' table, the password i use is the password assigned to this user on my table.
3)I've rebuilt the whole VB project, but still no joy, wern't expecting it to as there were no errors generated.
4) I've read, but don't really understand that it could be something to do with my database not being able to be controlled remotely, only locally. I started digging into 'Access Your MySQL Server Remotely Over SSH', didn't really know if i was going completely off the mark, it didn't mention needing to do any of this in the guide i've been following, but just a thought. It might be the case as i've tried to access my database through a programme called MySQL Administrator. I punch in the host,username etc and connect to my database, for some reason it won't allow me to add new users, could this be because i can't control my database remotely? Would this stop what i'm trying to do working?
5) When trying to install the MySQL.Data.dll file i had great difficulty in choosing one and finding it, adding it to my project using the 'Add reference' in VB. Finnally got it how it should be (i think), installed MySQL.Data.dll Ver 6.1.2.0 into my project.

(VS2005 Professional)
My database's layout is as follows:
Identification (Parent table)
ID# (Primary Key, auto increase)
First Name
[Code]....
I am placing this three tables in three tabs by a tabcontrol. If I put two child tables in dataGridView in their tab, the insert(new record)/update to the tables works very well. When I put the child tables in details View, I can't get a new record updated. The problem with details view is that there is no AddressID and VehiclesID generated. In dataGridView, these IDs are automatically generated whenever a mouse enters into a cell in a row.

I am using Visual Studio 2010. I want to do database connectivity using VB.Net and MS SQL Server 2005. I know 1 way of doing this. Following are the steps...
1. Create a new Data Source Using Data Sources Window.
2. Select the appropriate view like details view/ data grid view for that data source
3. Drag that data source on your form and connectivity is done. Also all the controls are created by the visual studio.
This feature is really cool but I want to learn database connectivity by pure coding without using such advanced features. Also is it possible to do connectivity from a class library ?
