View 15 RepliesI'm Using Visual Studio 2005 and Mysql Database to create a windows application. The datagrid displays all the records. Since I don't know how to directly update from datagrid, thats why I have used textboxes for the respective datagrid fields. A load button is provided which on clicking puts the data on the respective textboxes. The data can be edited in the textbox. Problem is that I can't save this edited or modified data back into dattabase.

View 3 RepliesMy project is about recipes. I want to automatically create table inside in mysql database when I hit the add button on my project through codes. First is when I input recipe name in the textbox1 then my input will be saved in the recipes table under recipe name column and also create a new table through codes on what i input in the textbox1
Example of my database in sql
texbox1 input will be save here
recipes - id, recipename
And then it will also automatically create a new table in mysql database, create newtable, with id, quantity ,unit, ingredients
Private Sub iadd()
Dim command As New MySqlCommand("insert into recipes (recipename) values ('" & TextBox1.Text & "')", connection)
Try
connection.Close()
connection.Open()
command.ExecuteNonQuery()

I have implemented the filestream feature of SQL Server 2008 in a VB.Net application. I can insert files, and then retrieve/view them just fine. However, I have huge problems trying to update a file. Eg. The user selects a file from the grid which I execute via process.start. If that file is a .txt file, the user may choose to edit it. In case that happens, I need to save the changed file back to the database. So far I have failed to do that.
What I do, is take the retrieved file, copy it (cause i got some errors about it being used), and then Process.Start it. After that, via .NET filestream, I convert the file to bytes and try to update the record. SQL Profiler and a manual SELECT on the varbinary(max) column tell me that the file is updated properly, but the very next try to retrieve it I get an unchanged file.
After that I also tried to update the file by changing its File-System Version, but the file still wouldn't seem to update. Does Anyone have a code sample of how I can achieve this operation? Like 500 sites on the internet have examples of how to Insert And Retrieve the file, but not a single example on how to update. This is how my second attempt of trying to update the file via the filesystem looks like. The code for inserting/retrieving is very similar and it works properly. [Code]

View 3 RepliesI have been reading about ADO, SQL, datasets, data adapters etc and have gone into information overload. My next step is to create a simple data file of my own that I can manipulate, update, sort etc in VB Express. Do I need another piece of software? I read about MySQL, which I understand is primarily used to access databases on the net, but can that be used to create a simple local data file on my PC? Can you simply hard code something in VB Express?
View 6 RepliesIs it possible through the use of a batch file, I'm trying this code:
mysqldump --host=localhost --user=root --password=nitoryolai -R hospital >E:wampetcdb-backuphosp.sql
Then vb.net will execute the batch file through s.d.p.s("b.bat")But it doesn't work, it only creates an empty .sql file.
I developed an application in VB.Net 2010 Express by which my users can updated the data in their offices and send XML files (total 4 xml files) for that particular date - its working fine I am getting 100's of files on daily basis to my FTP servers in a common folder.
Now i want to make an application that read those XML file at a scheduled intervals and import that to MySQL database tables. Also it should keep a log of files that has been imported in order to avoid duplicate importing of files.
I want to upload a text file to a table I have in my database. I have never done this kind of a thing so I don't have any clue. The column is in longblob.

View 1 RepliesI have one multi-row INSERT statement (300 or so sets of values) that I would like to commit to the MySQL database in an all-or-nothing fashion. insert into table VALUES
(1, 2, 3),
(4, 5, 6),
(7, 8, 9);
In some cases, a set of values in the command will not meet the criteria of the table (duplicate key, for example). When that happens I do not want any of the previous sets added to the database. I've implemented this with the following code, however, my rollback command doesn't appear to be making a difference. I've used this documentation: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/es/connector-net-examples-mysqltransaction.html
Dim transaction As MySqlTransaction = sqlConnection.BeginTransaction()
sqlCommand = New MySqlCommand(insertStr, sqlConnection, transaction)
Try
[code]....
I get the DUPLICATE KEY exception thrown, no Rollback Exception thrown, and every set of values up to duplicate key committed to the database.

View 5 RepliesWith VB.net, I'm coding a simple application to get more used to the new .Net format.
I'd like to save all the information to a 'new' database file. how to create a database on the fly, once that is done i'll be able to connect to it no problem, but actually creating the file is proving difficult to work/find out.
Also, with vb.net and the newly created custom file, how can it be made to automatically open that information with the program?
Is there a method in installation to associate the file type with the new program? How can i check when the program loads if a database file has been 'double-clicked' (rather than just running from the .exe of the program) and proceed to load the data?
EDIT1 - Extra InfoThe windows application has many different fields and content etc, then i need to save that to a file that could later be loaded by 'double clicking'. I assumed the easiest way would be to create a mini-database for each unique file
