I am building an application with an Access database, using Visual Basic 2010 and am not sure where the best place to store that database is. I am looking forward to creating an install file and want to make sure that the database is in the right place.
View 1 RepliesI'm working on a project right now that basically prints a string to the field that has focus in internet explorer and there's quite a bit of user specified information that needs to load when the vb program loads. Should I use a text file to store and retrieve the settings or a database? I'm a new programmer and I don't really have a clear idea on when I should use a text file compared to a database or the registry to store info. Also, if I use a database like access 2007 for example, wouldn't an end user run into an exception if they don't have that software installed on their comp? Is there a universal database format? I've linked some screenshots of the prog if you want to get an idea of how much info I need to store.

Is it possible through the use of a batch file, I'm trying this code:
mysqldump --host=localhost --user=root --password=nitoryolai -R hospital >E:wampetcdb-backuphosp.sql
Then vb.net will execute the batch file through s.d.p.s("b.bat")But it doesn't work, it only creates an empty .sql file.
I developed an application in VB.Net 2010 Express by which my users can updated the data in their offices and send XML files (total 4 xml files) for that particular date - its working fine I am getting 100's of files on daily basis to my FTP servers in a common folder.
Now i want to make an application that read those XML file at a scheduled intervals and import that to MySQL database tables. Also it should keep a log of files that has been imported in order to avoid duplicate importing of files.
I want to upload a text file to a table I have in my database. I have never done this kind of a thing so I don't have any clue. The column is in longblob.

View 6 RepliesI am coding a program that will allow the user to input 5 payrolls for Store 1, Store 2, and Store 3. The total of the 5 payrolls are then added together and shown in the respective Store's labels. A total label is also there to add up all the totals into one number. The numbers in the label must be in currency form. My problem is the numbers don't add correctly when I hit calculate. The first two numbers add together, but then after that the number just seems to subtract a random amount.
So far I have this --

For my website I've just implemented tinyMCE for my site (just a word processor). Everything works fine except when i try to store the string variable input into a sql server database. I want to store a string and not have the html tags make me exceed the 8000 length limit(the html tags take up most of that space). My question is, is there a solution so I can store my document with the html tags without shortening my document? Create an if statement that will determine the length If > 8000 than split the string apart and insert into separate fields. Maybe their is a compression feature which I'm unaware of?
