I have successfully create a user name = 'root' and host = '127 .0.0.1 ', use the mysql command (client mode) as follow: sql = String.Format("CREATE USER '{0}'@'{1}' IDENTIFIED BY '{2}'; GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO '{0}'@'{1}' IDENTIFIED BY '{2}' WITH GRANT OPTION;", userName, serverHost, userPassword) When the script above I change it to store procedure (server mode) as below, I found the error as follows: (Error 1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual That corresponds to Yout MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'pass' at line 1)

I'm bulding a program that willl work with a database the database is made with mysql.I would like to know if there is a way to install the DB automatically with the application without requiring the user to create a mysql server...the db have more than 5 million records.

How do I create a stored procedure for mysql using VB .NET programmatically?
EDIT: I have tried using ExecuteNonQuery provided by MySQL .NET Connector. It prompts me error. Maybe it's because I put "Delimiter $$"? I know I can create using script (batch file) if I want to send it to my client (as commented below). But my objective is to keep MySQL password safe. So script is not the way.

I am coding a program that will allow the user to input 5 payrolls for Store 1, Store 2, and Store 3. The total of the 5 payrolls are then added together and shown in the respective Store's labels. A total label is also there to add up all the totals into one number. The numbers in the label must be in currency form. My problem is the numbers don't add correctly when I hit calculate. The first two numbers add together, but then after that the number just seems to subtract a random amount.

I use AES encryption in my vb.net 2008 windows forms apps to ....
1. Store user passwords in sql server express database in encrypted form
2. decrypt the encrypted Sql server express connection string password on the fly when connecting to SQl Server over a vpn or direct to web based sql server database
3. decrypt the encrypted ftp site password on the fly when my application connects to my ftp site to upload client's database backups
The issue I have is that the secret key for the encryption / decryption is hard coded within the encryption/decryption functions. So anybody who decompiled my application would be able to generate the same encryption, as they would have the encryption secret key How can you hide the encryption secret key so that if anybody decompiled my app they could not reproduce the decryption function

I have a datagrid control with a list of names that it retrieves from a MySql database. I can search through them until i have one result. I want to be able to Display a groupbox control when the number of results is equal to 1. Also, in the groupbox i have a button that when clicked will delete this user from the server and their information from the mysql table called "employee". when the user is deleted i'll display a confirmation message in a messagebox, and reload the table with the updated list. so far the only two problems i have are showing the groupbox when the results are equal to 1 and deleting the user from the sql server based on the name of the search result

I have determined thanks to the last q & a that there is something wrong with my "save to db" code as well as my "retrieve to picture" code. Even If I manually save the pic in the db it stil wont retreive. This is code i patched together from 3 or 4 examples around the net.

I'm trying to execute CREATE USER with a given username (via sql parameter)

Heres the code thats generating the above:

I get and error:Incorrect syntax near '@LoginName'.I think this is due to the parameters being passed as VarChar causing 'MyUser' rather than MyUser Can I not do this with sql parameters?

What i have going on, is i have a MySQL connector as a resource on my application, and im basically trying to connect to my MySQL server, to either a) register a new account, or b) check that the account exists and they are premium, and login, Now what i have run into problems with is: My MySQL Database Name has a _ in it which VB is not allowing for some strange reason.
The code i am using is below

How i can allow the _ into the application, because the only databases that don't have a _ in the user or dbname are a) Paid ones which i DO NOT have the money for or self hosted ones, i cannot leave my computer on 24/7

I am creating a multi-user application using VB 2005 Pro and SQL Server 2005.I would like to know what your ideas are when it comes to managing user permissions in regard to being able to view, add, edit and delete information in the database? Do you think I should have the end user type in the information into the VB application which then will create an SQL server user and then apply permissions to that security user or should I fine-grain the application by allowing groups to be created and then assigning permissions and users to those groups?

I see this asked many times on hereI'm copying this question that I found on here.Is there any way to pass a null value (I mean a value that the sql will interpret as null) to a stored procedure when using:tableAdapter.Fill(dataSet.table_name, param1 (as string),param2 (as string) etc...Which is the most painless way to do this(assuming that the sp stays inside the database!!)

In a VB.NET, I code to exec a store procedre (sp_truncate) to truncate 10 tables and using sqlBulkCopy to download a huge data. Both them are working fine. Now I want to use transaction with vb.net (not in store procedure?) to rollback truncate tables if download is failed. Is it possible to use transaction to work with these two steps?

i created a dll file using vb.net then it has a shared function that will execute a stored procedure of mysql but my code is something long and when accessing it, it has a big risk that it can produce an error if there is an incorrect string input, i am asking an advice how i can make it much better or can point me something much better than my code as my reference.here is my codefirst i created a function named mysqlParamDatatype wiith 1 parameter, this function will detect the mysqldatatype of the mysql sproc parameter so it can pass the value with the correct datatype. but it is to long.
