What is the real mode , protected mode , supervisor mode and the hypervisor mode ?
I'm wondering if there is any code that I could use in VB.net so it can determine the computer's startup mode (such as safe mode or safe mode with networking).View 1 Replies View Related
i am using visual studio 2005 on win 7 with office 2007. i have developed win application. i am using microsoft activex spreadsheet component in my program. so it automatically creates reference to AxInterop.OWC11.dll When i run program in debug mode (open program and click RUN in toolbar it works) but if i run directly .exe (go to bin elease doubleclick .exe) it give error at loading point of that component. It says "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory has been corrupted." An unhandled exception occurrs.
I work for a shop that maintains a fairly new app. The app still has its fair share of bugs, with numerous tickets coming in daily. The error information we're given with those tickets is not as useful as it might be because the application was compiled in Release mode, which I read is smaller and faster (makes sense).
Are there any ramifications to deploying a .NET application to production that was compiled in Debug mode? I would expect it would be a bit slower, but I've read the difference is nominal. This would assure us that when we get errors on tickets we have line number associated with those errors and this, of course, makes debugging much easier. major red flags that would prevent you from doing this? I'm tasked with researching the possibility.
This is applicable to C# and VB.Net. I am writing a console application, but one aspect of it I want to make representable in a GUI (that being downloads running, with progress bars). is it possible to write a console mode application that can also have a form in it that can be called from code inside the console component?View 3 Replies View Related
I have one project created with VB 6.0. Step to reproduced this issue,

2. Open the Visual Basic 6.0 and created standard Exe project.

When in "Add" mode, I have all controls on the form enabled with the exception of a listview that is disabled until the record is saved. The listview needs the primary key from the saved record in order for items to be added to the listview.
When in "Edit" mode, the form is populated when a record is selected on a search form. Specific controls are disabled. When a value in a control is changed, I have a RecordModified property that is set to True and then the Save button is enabled. I also have combo boxes that need to be populated but the selected value needs to correspond to the value pulled from the database
Whenever I make any changes in my project, they don't work and aren't visible in debug mode. They are all visible in my designer mode. It's the same with newly added code, it just doesn't work (even a simple command like showing a test messagebox doesn't work).
How could this be? It all worked fine until recently. I don't want to start over with my project, because it's a pretty big one.

I want to create an application that can run in both GUI and CLI mode. Basically what I want is when a user double clicks an EXE they get the GUI but when they run it through a command prompt they can supply CLI arguments and run entirely in the command prompt. I know that VBScript has the difference between Wscript and Cscript, but I don't know how to do that in VB.View 8 Replies View Related
This should be something simple, but I just cant make it work. I have a DataGridView with a "Technician" column that I would like to have a dropdown box, allowing the user to select and assign that row to X technician. It works, however with the default edit mode, you have to click the box THREE times to get the dropdown. If the edit mode is changed to "Edit On Enter", it works FIRST click, but this ruins the way I want some of my other columns to work.
1. Can I enable/disable editing of ONLY certain columns?
2. Can I set the edit mode for ONE column?
3. My "Unassigned" section (the last line) no longer works after adding my "With" section to add my combobox. I thought the "DataPropertyName" would allow this to work. Whats the deal?
4. Can I edit the visual style of the combo box? It does not match AT ALL

I have a program where I want to stop the "www" service at night to keep users out of a website while some night jobs are running.
I know how to stop and start the service from VB.Net but I need to put the computer in maintenance mode before stopping the service to prevent work tickets from being automatically generated.
Is there a way to put a computer in maintenance mode from VB.Net? And also to take it out of maintenance mode?

why when I use My.Settings to Add items during design mode, they do not show up during run mode?
This is for a custom control.
I'm missing something between the control that exists on a Form during design-mode and the (apparently new) control that's created during run mode.
I can add items in design mode using the Application Settings editor (right-click on custom control, select Properties then Settings). But when I use code in a smart panel during design-mode along with My.Settings.MyProperty.Add() to add additional items, the new items show-up in design mode but revert back to the old set during run-mode.
I need to create a vb-application which plays video-files as a fullscreen mode on computer's external screen. At the sametime user must have control to these files on another screen shown on the computer's (laptop) own screen.
So far I have managed to open the videofile as a fullscreen mode so that user has to first drag the videopanel (not a problem in this case) to the another screen and then click the "Fullscreen"- button on the control-form. Now the problem is that when another screen is playing on a fullscreen-mode and user clicks the control-form on the main screen: the fullscreen-mode ends and the videopanel results to the video's actual size.
Is there any solutions to this? So I'd need to continue the fullscreenmode on the other screen while there are user actions on the main screen. I am using DirectX / AudioVideoPlayback by Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. And yes, I am quite a newbie with VB-related things :)

I have a website where the user enters a combinations of login and password to enter.I have some other page where the user has the ability to change the password. I added there 3 textboxs in password mode (actual, new, and confirm). The odd thing is that the first textbox is being filled automatically with the password that i enter on login and that is stored in Firefox. If i do this on IE (where i don't have the password saved) this doesn't happen. Also, this issue completely solves itself if i change the mode on the textboxs.Am i missing something here? I obvisouly don't want the password to be filled automatically which would take away the whole purpose of the textbox.View 2 Replies View Related
I see, to my supprise, when I tried to installed the Access Database Engine drivers that you cannot run both 32 bit and 64 on the same machine (I have Office 64 bit installed). If SQL can do it? So I have this nice new 64 bit machine with 64 bit office and my hands are tied... Can't correct code in 64 bit mode, can't read Access databases in 32 bit mode. I just have a hard time with 64 bit being out since XP, that this it just not fixed yet. Humm the Behemoth that is now Microsoft. Want to use OLEDB?View 2 Replies View Related

I have several executable files that make up a full .NET application. One of the .net applications downloads a new version of the software, exits the main application, makes file changes directly inside of the c:program filesmy application area directly. I install this application using Installaware and it is code signed and verified with godaddy, so it gets around the antivirus programs. This has been running for a long time, and I never put too much thought into what security levels are allowed to directly access the files in this area, because it always seemed to worked perfectly in Win7, Vista and XP.
Now I have created a virtual machine, one inside Windows, and then one inside Parallels on a Mac. In these two virtual machines, the executable file that installs a new version of the software only works properly if I choose the two options on the compatibility tab in Windows, "Run this program as an administrator" and "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7". Now I have found this article: [URL]. This even let me set up my registry settings in the set up of my program so that one specific exe will just run properly. I am concerned about just patching something this way.
With Visual Studio running in the virtual machines, the code executes perfectly. When I run the executable that I JUST COMPILED from Visual Studio, that executable will only run properly with the choices stated above, or more specifically, this registry setting:
"c:\program files\onespot\onespotinstall.exe"="WIN7RTM RUNASADMIN"
The exact same PC that has been mirrored onto these virtual machines works fine. It has been impossible to troubleshoot where the problem lies. The line of code that gets executed to EXIT the main program finds the process, and does a gentle shut down. That works fine. Even testing inside that application works fine. But I never can get a return from the Process.Start line. Narrowing down to a line of code is not working.
I'm trying to create a process in SUSPENDED mode. I've gotten two errors I just can't figure out. The one I'm getting now is "PinvokeStackInbalance'."
Public Const CREATE_SUSPENDED As UInteger = &H4
Private Declare Function CreateProcess Lib "kernel32" _

want to write a program that would have 4 boxes on the menu console:
Box 1) User input ( Ask the user to enter a number)
Box 2) Random Value
Box 3) Rolls value
Box 4) Counter
I want to write a If statement that shows the values of the rolls and the the counter count each time the user enters a number. If however I press the random box, a randomized number between 0-50 is generated and the counted is incremented by 1.
I have a few DLLs that I have added to my project. I placed directly into the BinRelease directory and set Copy Local and Specific Version to true. Now if I move to debug mode, it doesn't copy those DLLs into the debug folder, so it won't compile. If these are just 3rd party DLLs, and not being built by my program, is it normal practice to throw these into the Release and Debug folders every time?View 3 Replies View Related
