View 1 RepliesI'm wondering if there is any code that I could use in VB.net so it can determine the computer's startup mode (such as safe mode or safe mode with networking).
View 1 Repliesi am using visual studio 2005 on win 7 with office 2007. i have developed win application. i am using microsoft activex spreadsheet component in my program. so it automatically creates reference to AxInterop.OWC11.dll When i run program in debug mode (open program and click RUN in toolbar it works) but if i run directly .exe (go to bin elease doubleclick .exe) it give error at loading point of that component. It says "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory has been corrupted." An unhandled exception occurrs.

I work for a shop that maintains a fairly new app. The app still has its fair share of bugs, with numerous tickets coming in daily. The error information we're given with those tickets is not as useful as it might be because the application was compiled in Release mode, which I read is smaller and faster (makes sense).
Are there any ramifications to deploying a .NET application to production that was compiled in Debug mode? I would expect it would be a bit slower, but I've read the difference is nominal. This would assure us that when we get errors on tickets we have line number associated with those errors and this, of course, makes debugging much easier. major red flags that would prevent you from doing this? I'm tasked with researching the possibility.
This is applicable to C# and VB.Net. I am writing a console application, but one aspect of it I want to make representable in a GUI (that being downloads running, with progress bars). is it possible to write a console mode application that can also have a form in it that can be called from code inside the console component?
View 3 RepliesI have one project created with VB 6.0. Step to reproduced this issue,

When in "Add" mode, I have all controls on the form enabled with the exception of a listview that is disabled until the record is saved. The listview needs the primary key from the saved record in order for items to be added to the listview.
When in "Edit" mode, the form is populated when a record is selected on a search form. Specific controls are disabled. When a value in a control is changed, I have a RecordModified property that is set to True and then the Save button is enabled. I also have combo boxes that need to be populated but the selected value needs to correspond to the value pulled from the database
Whenever I make any changes in my project, they don't work and aren't visible in debug mode. They are all visible in my designer mode. It's the same with newly added code, it just doesn't work (even a simple command like showing a test messagebox doesn't work).
How could this be? It all worked fine until recently. I don't want to start over with my project, because it's a pretty big one.

I want to create an application that can run in both GUI and CLI mode. Basically what I want is when a user double clicks an EXE they get the GUI but when they run it through a command prompt they can supply CLI arguments and run entirely in the command prompt. I know that VBScript has the difference between Wscript and Cscript, but I don't know how to do that in VB.
View 8 RepliesThis should be something simple, but I just cant make it work. I have a DataGridView with a "Technician" column that I would like to have a dropdown box, allowing the user to select and assign that row to X technician. It works, however with the default edit mode, you have to click the box THREE times to get the dropdown. If the edit mode is changed to "Edit On Enter", it works FIRST click, but this ruins the way I want some of my other columns to work.
Questions:
1. Can I enable/disable editing of ONLY certain columns?
2. Can I set the edit mode for ONE column?
3. My "Unassigned" section (the last line) no longer works after adding my "With" section to add my combobox. I thought the "DataPropertyName" would allow this to work. Whats the deal?
4. Can I edit the visual style of the combo box? It does not match AT ALL

View 1 RepliesI have a program where I want to stop the "www" service at night to keep users out of a website while some night jobs are running.
I know how to stop and start the service from VB.Net but I need to put the computer in maintenance mode before stopping the service to prevent work tickets from being automatically generated.
Is there a way to put a computer in maintenance mode from VB.Net? And also to take it out of maintenance mode?

View 3 Replieswhy when I use My.Settings to Add items during design mode, they do not show up during run mode?
This is for a custom control.
I'm missing something between the control that exists on a Form during design-mode and the (apparently new) control that's created during run mode.
I can add items in design mode using the Application Settings editor (right-click on custom control, select Properties then Settings). But when I use code in a smart panel during design-mode along with My.Settings.MyProperty.Add() to add additional items, the new items show-up in design mode but revert back to the old set during run-mode.
I need to create a vb-application which plays video-files as a fullscreen mode on computer's external screen. At the sametime user must have control to these files on another screen shown on the computer's (laptop) own screen.
So far I have managed to open the videofile as a fullscreen mode so that user has to first drag the videopanel (not a problem in this case) to the another screen and then click the "Fullscreen"- button on the control-form. Now the problem is that when another screen is playing on a fullscreen-mode and user clicks the control-form on the main screen: the fullscreen-mode ends and the videopanel results to the video's actual size.
Is there any solutions to this? So I'd need to continue the fullscreenmode on the other screen while there are user actions on the main screen. I am using DirectX / AudioVideoPlayback by Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. And yes, I am quite a newbie with VB-related things :)
I want to add a Reference to my application in run-time mode and i want to list the public keys of this Reference in run-time mode I'm using VS2005.net Windows XP professional

View 2 RepliesI have a website where the user enters a combinations of login and password to enter.I have some other page where the user has the ability to change the password. I added there 3 textboxs in password mode (actual, new, and confirm). The odd thing is that the first textbox is being filled automatically with the password that i enter on login and that is stored in Firefox. If i do this on IE (where i don't have the password saved) this doesn't happen. Also, this issue completely solves itself if i change the mode on the textboxs.Am i missing something here? I obvisouly don't want the password to be filled automatically which would take away the whole purpose of the textbox.
View 2 RepliesI see, to my supprise, when I tried to installed the Access Database Engine drivers that you cannot run both 32 bit and 64 on the same machine (I have Office 64 bit installed). If SQL can do it? So I have this nice new 64 bit machine with 64 bit office and my hands are tied... Can't correct code in 64 bit mode, can't read Access databases in 32 bit mode. I just have a hard time with 64 bit being out since XP, that this it just not fixed yet. Humm the Behemoth that is now Microsoft. Want to use OLEDB?
